had a friend that said he was given 50 dollars off per night to respond in the middle of the night as an emt if there was an emergency...?? any one ever heard of this?

No such animal!

Reedy Creek Emergency Services is staffed by firefighters, ambulances, and rescue squads 24/7/365. They have the transport and equipment.

There is no way they would rely on a Guest being available to provide assistance. And the call that would be placed to 911 by a Resort Cast (or anyone) is relayed to RCES for action.

1) To paraphrase ChesireFigment, "Ain't No Way!".
2) The Reedy Creek paramedics are GRRREAT!
3) I have called them many times.
4) They respond in minutes at any hour.
5) And, they go about their business in a professional manner.
6) You see them in advanced training at Disney Univ several times per year.
7) Not to be funny, but, this is NOT a Mickey Mouse outfit.

NOTE: When I was in college, I was an EMT (before the law defined paramedics) working inside a hospital Emer Room and Orthopedics, then a "68-Whiskey" later on. Today, my skills are well out of date, but you can still tell a well trained outfit.

Also, I find it highly unlikely ANY organization would have unverified people acting in a very sensitive and highly trained position like that...

One word... Liability

Exactly...on both sides. Although there are certain immunities under most Good Samaritan laws for trained emergency responders providing help outside their areas of direct employment (i.e. a doctor or nurse off duty rendering assistance at, say, a restaurant), if Disney were to provide some compensation those laws may not apply, and most likely not any sort of malpractice insurance the individual would hold.

As already addressed by PP, not at Disney, they are well staffed with Emergency Services Units when needed, etc. Now, it is not uncommon for discounts to be offered to first responders (fire, police, ems) but rarely does it require any type of agreeement to respond in an emergency, etc.....and I am not aware of these discounts being offered at WDW on any type of recurring basis (not sure if they have ever been offered, but maybe once in a great while).

Most first responders, if it be fire, ems or police will almost always respond in the event of an emergency by nature and are covered under good samaritan laws. As a matter of fact, there is more liability in not responding, then responding. If you found out a doctor/emt stood by and did nothing while a family member suffered a heart attack/stroke and ultimately died, the civil liability would be much greater than any liability of rendering aid.

The biggest issues that these first responders face in these types of situations are internal policies that govern outside work. Law Enforcement Agencies, Hospitals, Fire Companies, etc that employ these first responders can be held accountable for their actions both on and off duty, based on the training they received from their agency. So, most agencies regulate outside employment to minimize risk and not tie up their resources defending their training, etc if something goes wrong....or at least get prior approval before taking on outside work.

I'm not sure if they STILL are, but the Swan and Dolphin have, in the past, offered discounts to first responders and nurses.
