Night Time shows and Rain

We'll be part of the lucky guests that gets to experience DW in the rain next week, not worried, we're prepared, but I'm just wondering if any of the night-time shows still take place if it rains.

I’d also like to know this. I know people are being positive but it really is a grim forecast. If shows don’t run in thunderstorms, it would help to know this to manage expectations.

They rarely cancel the night time shows at MK or Epcot (can't speak to ROL or Fantasmic). We had a really bad downpour at Epcot two years ago. There were rivers of water down the pathways. It rained right up to until 9:00. We were caught in Mexico (great place to be stuck if you have to be stuck at Epcot). I was chatting with the bartender at La Cava and made the offhanded comment that Illuminations would be cancelled. He said no. He said they are often delayed and rarely cancelled. He said the PTB will be watching the radar looking for openings. Sure enough, there was an announcement and the fireworks went off around 9:30. MKs went off at almost the same time, and DHS's went off just after. We could see the high flyers from both other shows. It was kinda cool to see that. And that would be a good reason to do a dessert party. At least you'd have a covered, dry place to hang out until the fire works actually went if you were there on a rainy day.

I hope it's not as rainy for you as predicted but if it is, you can still have fun.

You likely won't see as much rain as you're expecting right now.

But they rarely ever cancel a fireworks show. Fantasmic will be the first to be cancelled because of the safety of the performers. The others will usually just be delayed. Once the fireworks are loaded and prepped they need to be shot off. They can be delayed just a few minutes or an hour or two, all depends on the weather

Easter week it rain one evening just before Rivers of Light and it went on as schedule while raining. The only down side is the bus ride back to resort with the AC going.

We are also there next week and the forecast is pretty dismal. We had our first dessert party booked for Tuesday. I can't decide whether to keep our reservation or not, or if we can even cancel it? We mostly wanted the fireworks view but the dessert party would have been fun also. Just not sure it is that much fun for the cost to watch in the rain. I can buy a lot of desserts somewhere dry for that much money. Lol

Assuming you’re talking about HEA, there is a 5 day cancellation policy. Having been to a stormy/rainy night dessert party where fireworks were delayed quite awhile, the dessert party area was a wonderful place to hang out / stay dry / wait for the show. Obviously not ideal of course, but it was sure better than waiting around huddled under an overhang somewhere.

Hope you can make the most of it, whatever Mother Nature throws your way.

Our experience has been that they will delay the fireworks but not cancel them. They make the decision based on whether or not there is lighting in the area. We were at Hollywood Studios one night when it was pouring rain with lightening in the area but the CM's assured us that the show would eventually go on that night. We hung around for a while then decided to go back to our resort. We saw the HS fireworks go off about 1 1/2 hours later, sometime after 10 pm.

I would guess that they would be cancelled if the storm looked like it was not going to clear off that evening. I have seen them hold the fireworks as usually for a light rain.

HEA is not cancelled due to rain.
F! is, due to safety of the performers on the boats or floats

My trip starts Wednesday and I literally cried when I saw the forecast. A “tropical incident”, 100% rain for days and days in a row. Our only AK day is planned for the WORST rain day, with FPs already booked and TH dinner reserved. Trying so hard to stay positive, but man, this mess really bums me out. It’s not even hurricane season yet! A day or two of heavy rain, fine, but FOUR days in a row?? Such rotten luck.

Oh well, I may stay in the FOP queue for that 190 minute wait in Thursday. At least it’s covered

We did exactly that on our rainy AK day last year. We didn’t mind waiting in such a long line since lots of other stuff was closed and at least the line is out of the rain and nicely themed! The posted wait was over 200 minutes but it was less than 2 hours. More like an hour and 40 minutes.
