Well, shoot. I just bought tickets through Southwest for me and a friend. Without thinking, I put her down as "Alex" when her name is technically "Alexandra" (which is what it is on her license). Middle name, last name, and birthdate, are all correct... does anyone know if this is going to be a problem at the airport? :confused3

Technically the name should match exactly but in reality I wouldn't be too concerned. I have always booked tickets for one of my friend's as "Brad" even though his ID says Bradford.

I agree with UVA. Maybe be prepared for a couple of extra questions from TSA as the name doesn't match exactly, but there shouldn't be any issues.

As long as the picture on the ID matches, if the name is a shortened version, there won't be a problem

You won't have a problem the only thing is TSA might think that since Alex could be a boys name they my think these ticket where for someone else. It depends on the screener I wouldn't bring it up mybe they won't notice as like other poster said you she might have to answer extra questions or go through extra screening but she be fine. The only real reason it might be a problem because they have to check everyone names againt the no fly list so if it not her full name they might have to check their which could be awhile or if their and Alex with your last name on the no fly list she might be Have fun and get their safe

The ticket does say "miss" and the middle name is a girl's name.

Thanks everyone, this puts my mind at rest :goodvibes

No, the TSA screeners at security lines do not check your name against the no fly list. They just check to see that you have a valid id and that the name on the id matches the boarding pass. It is the airline which has the responsibility to check their ticketed passengers against the list.

OP - I don't think your friend will have any problem.

Thanks yes didn't mean to sound like the screamers check your name I meant more like the gov does bot like everyone said you won't have a problem.

Common nicknames that are obviously related to the name on the ID normally pose no problems.

Now if the person's legal name was Lisa and the name on the ticket was Dixie, then you would probably have an issue.
