Nick Hotel report--February 2006

They do have shuttles (free!) to and from Disney and Universal. Not sure about Sea World. We had a car so I am not sure about the schedule.

Thanks for the trip report. We're staying 3 (possibly 4) nights in a SpongeBob suite this October using Priority Club points. :cool1:

My kids will be 4 and 6 when we go. Is there a minimum age for participating in the shows/games?

Thanks!

Have a great time!! Your kids will not be too young. They picked kids that age for the games at the pool as well as the Nick Live Show. In the Nick Live Show, it is two teams against each other. The teams can be up to four people so it can be you, the kids (and the hubby?). We had only three. The captain of the winning team gets slimed. The captain of the losing team can pie himself or choose a teammate to pie. At our game, we won and my son (age 8) got slimed. The kid on the losing team pied his mom and smooshed it all over her hair! :lmao:

The Who Knows Best? Show is probably better for the older one. It is a Newlywed type game- they ask you questions about your child and then they see if your answers match his/hers.

They are going to have a great time. There is face painting in the Mall. It costs $1-$5 depending on what you do. I had them paint a character on their arms and it was only $1 each.

Please heed my advice about the Character Breakfast. NOT worth the money. The same food is available for cheaper on the other side of the Mall without the characters. ($65 for the four of you at character vs. $25 at the other restaurant). The characters at the breakfast walk around the mall afterwards and take pictures and stuff. I love the Nick Hotel and they are doing great in lots of areas, but Disney does its character meals soooooooo much better. Might want to hop over to Disney for a character meal. (We did dinner at Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary Hotel- now that was worth it!)

Do you plan to do just things at the Nick Hotel or are you planning a day or so at WDW, Sea World, etc.?

If I were to go again and were just doing Nick Hotel stuff, I would stay two nights (making sure I arrive early on the first day and leave late on the last). Three nights might be enough unless you are planning to do a day at the parks or at least getting off property for awhile.

For me, the next time I go, I would request a room in building 6 or 7- those are near the Lagoon pool and the Mall. Building 6 is near the laundry room (on the 5th floor). Building 7 is the closest of those two to the free shuttle. Buildings 1 & 8 are the closest of all to the shuttle.

Buildings 1-5 are near the small pool. Buildings 6-14 are near the Lagoon pool.

Wow - We're watching the Spongebob special and they're doing the intro for it at this hotel. My 8yo daughter's drooling over the pools! We originally made ressies for HRH for the week after our Disney Cruise (we're doing Disney parks before the cruise and Universal afterward). The days we're there Nick Hotel is offering the stay rate of $125/night. HRH is $229/night but includes tickets for Universal for the week and that express pass for everything. But Nick Hotel looks like such a much more fun experience - you'd think that hotel ould be affiliated with Universal too! Rats! What to do... Anyone had experienece at both?

Thanks for the info! Your review has been so helpful. I was kind of on the fence about the character breakfast. In light of what you've said, I think we'll skip it.

Actually, we arrive early October 5th and plan on doing stuff at the hotel that whole day. The next two days we'll do US/IOA. We'll be at WDW from the 8th-13th, then we leave for a Disney Cruise the 14th.

I think the kids are going to LOVE the hotel. I'm excited for them. :hyper: We're really close to earning enough Priority Club points for 1 more free night there (for a total of 4). :cool1:

Thanks again for taking the time to share your insights!

Hi Michboro,

Sorry for the delay in response. The shows were 6:15 and 7:30 (and 5:00 on the weekends) for the Nick Live show. There are two teams (3-4 people per team) in that show. You can sign up to be a team at 3pm at the pool- look for the employee with a clipboard. At that show, they also ask for people from the audience. It's a show like the Slime Time show on Nickelodeon. At the end, the losing team captain can either pie him/herself in the face or pie a team member. The winning team captain gets slimed. My son got slimed and loved it!

Then there is another show at 8:30 and 9:30 (or around that time). There are three teams made up of a parent and a child. The game is similar to the Newlywed Game. Kids go off stage and parents are asked questions about their kids. Then the kids are brought back to see if the answers match. The winner (which was us!!) got a Nick Hotel lunch box filled with goodies. You can sign up for that show at the same time as the other.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Enjoy! When are you going?
I wouldn't commit that show schedule to memory, as they've been changing the show schedules every 3-5 days, even if just a little bit.

Thank you so much for the wonderful information! We're newbies and are hoping to split our stay between Nick and WDW. Thank you!!!! :teeth:
