Nick Cannon - Whiteface

I am not offended. The make up artist did a good job. As for blackface. I find true blackface and minstrel shows VERY offensive. The entire purpose was to portray black people as slow, ignorant, and lazy. That is why I find them offensive. I can understand the backlash that Ted Danson got. Juliana Hough I had no problems with. It was a Halloween costume. She was not trying to mock the actor.

Anyone remember when Eddie Murphy played a white Jewish man in Coming to America? No one said anything about that.

I remember that. He also did a similar skit on SNL.

Those were different times, IMO. I don't remember the races being as divided back then, as they are now. Things have gotten much, much worse in recent years, thanks to people who enjoy fueling the fires.

I was not offended by Nick wearing white makeup. But do you really think it would be OK, in terms of political correctness, if a white comic did a similar skit with blackface? The apologies would be demanded, Sharpton would be upset, etc.

Hypocrisy, and it's only getting worse.

No, it's not offensive. "Whiteface" is not an act with centuries of real, raw history behind it. But then, I'm one of those silly white people who actually understand how oppression and discrimination work and I know I'd be wasting my breathe explaining those concepts here, so I won't.

Bless your heart. Don't get a nosebleed up there on Mount Condescension.

How about the movie Soul Man? I thought it was a funny comedy back in the day but looking back on it I can't imagine that movie being made today.

:thumbsup2 I think the world has just become so PC now that rather than viewing it for the comedy it was people now view it as controversial. There is a lot less racism now than there was 30 years ago but I agree the races are much more divided now than they were then.

OK, I'll bite. I'm also a silly white person, and I certainly know my history fairly well, but I'm curious what secrets you know about oppression and discrimination that elude the rest of us?

The poster stated in their post why it wasn't a double standard.

You seemed to have missed it which kind of proves their point.

Well gee...aren't you just so superior to the rest of us? How's the view from that high horse you're on?

If you read the article, the hash tags, and look at his fake name, he is actually being very racist. Also, small history note that is left out of most new history books, before African slaves, there were white indentured servants in America. Indentured servitude, while supposedly temporary, is a form of slavery, so please don't assume life was all roses if you were white in America.

OMG. I can't stop laughing. I had a huge response typed up but why bother. Enjoy your spin on history. LOLOLOLOL

Indentured servitude and slavery are completely different things. First of all and most importantly an indentured servant signs up for it. A slave never agreed to anything. They were never asked. There was no end in sight. I have a relative who came here as an indentured servant and I don't feel sorry for him. It was a smart business decision based on what his other options were. It's more comparable to an unpaid internship than slavery. I wouldn't feel sorry for someone doing an unpaid internship either.

No, I understood their point loud and clear. I'm so sorry YOU didn't seem to understand my sarcasm. I am guessing that you must have a superior understanding of the injustices of the world also. My congratulations. And that was sarcasm also, in case you didn't quite catch it ;)

Ok, I read the article...does anyone think that this could possibly be an elaborate hoax? The release date is APRIL 1ST.

I'm not going to get all up in arms about it.

No it isn't and he isn't racist for three reasons.

1.His wife and children are white.
2.He's a comedian.
3.People do blackface all the time.

You guys need to lighten up. Now you know how I feel when that white recruiter roller her eyes and didn't even shake my hand and told me I didn't get the job three hours after when I went when I had my interview not that long ago at disneyland. all because I was black.

you guys started this racism crap and when we try to have our comedic play at it, you guys get butthurt and call him racist.

She actually told you you didn't get the job because you are black or is that just something you are assuming because she was white?
When that girl dressed upfor Halloween as a black fictional character there was outrage about it. Now a black guy dresses up as a white fictional character and we need to lighten up. Such hypocrisy, its always racist when a white person does something but never when a black person does. I don't think its us that need to lighten up.
