Nicholas (almost 16) is in renal failure as you might remember from my previous posts. He usually likes to go outside in the morning for an hour or so, then come right in for the day. We live in the country so it's not a big issue, or hasn't been for 6 and a half years.

For the last week or so, he hasn't looked good, sunken eyes, lackluster fur, etc... As far as I can tell, he has stopped eating for the past two or three days. He has lost about a pound since the weekend. The Sub Q fluids we are giving him 2x a week don't seem to be doing the trick anymore.

This morning, he went out at 8am and hasn't been back since. This is very unusual for him as he really likes to sleep in the house. My fear, my gut instinct, is that he has gone somewhere to die and I didn't say goodbye yet. :( So, could I have some "Come home, Nicholas" thoughts so that I can at least say goodbye to him and hug him if he chooses that he is ready?

I'm so worried. :(

I am sorry, but you are right he probably went some where to pass on. Maybe if you went looking, he may not have gone to far.
Again sorry to hear that he is missing. :(

I agree with the others on this thread but I'll keep hoping that he comes home anyway. You just never know with cats.

He just came HOME! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Still doesn't look good, but he ate two pieces of food! I can't believe he came home. Whew...

Thank you for your thoughts! They worked! Thanks, Thanks, Thanks! :Pinkbounc

Awww I'm so so glad for you!!!!

My mom has a 17 year old Shih-tzu and it can't hear or see anymore. Mama asked the vet about putting her to sleep or not and the vet said that as long as she will still eat that she isn't ready to go.

So maybe your baby isn't ready yet. Give him loads of hugs.

Happy to hear he's home ...

I was going to post this smiley :

Glad to hear your good news. I had two kitties who just kind of "vanished". We believe that they were taken by a fishercat or other such predator. It is so sad not to know exactly... but we live out sort of in the woods, so I guess we need to get used to the idea. We call our neighborhood the "black hole for cats", as we are not the only ones who have had furbabies go missing!....P

Oh yeah, I will keep him close now. And we all gave him lots of hugs. Ok, what a rollercoaster of emotions! I'm exhausted now. :o

I'm so glad that Nicholas returned home safe and sound. I hope you get to keep him a little while longer.

That's great, Karen, very happy for you and Nicholas. Use that leash in the future, so many cats are gone from running loose. Good news!! :bounce:

Dan, use a leash on NICHOLAS??!!?? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: You just don't know Nicholas. He beats up dogs, people who cradle him like a baby. He used to be a 15 pound piece of ATTITUDE! (Now he is 12 pounds, but still has attitude!) I can just imagine the look on his face if I put a leash on him!

Leash... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks for the thoughts, Dan... they made me laugh.
