Last minute one night stay. The only room available on property is Grand Calif suite. Can anyone suggest a hotel that's within walking distance to the parks. Clean, comfy beds :)

Closest thing to GF is going to be the Grand Californian. There are many many off site options. Fairfield Inn and Hojo are the nicest of the motels across the street, about a 8-10 minute walk to the gate, but they are essentially upscale motels not true hotels.
Slightly farther out the conventon center hotels (Hilton, Marriott, and I think Embassy Suites?) Are a farther walk, ~20ish to the gates (DL ppl consider that loooong) but are nicer and live up to their brand names. Not sure if the sheratons are walkable since I haven't stayed there.
HTH.

Last minute you may have to take what you can get. We ended up booking at the Tropicana becasue everythign else was booked during our times. Ive never stayed there and I see nobody has told you to try them on this thread. Yikes!

We stayed at Candy Cane Inn.....great place! Short walk to the gates.

We have stayed at the Ramada Maingate in Oct and Dec '11 and found it to be just fine. We love, love, love to stay on property but it is not always in the budget. We did not have any problems, the rooms were clean, the beds were comfy and the staff was great! They have a continental breakfast, we never ate it.

We are staying at the Tropicana in March and the Desert Inn Suites in May. I have stayed at the Tropicana years ago and they have remodeled not long ago. I have family that has stayed there without any problems.

If you are looking for something close, then across the street is going to be the Motel with outdoor entry. We are fine with that, especially if it is a quick trip :)

We've stayed at the Tropicana, Carousel, and the Del Sol. All are at the crosssing intersection to the transportation and Disney entrance.

All these "hotels" (i.e. motels) were fine and services were adequate. We're pretty laid back people (i.e. we don't have super high expectations) so didn't seem to have any issues with them. Our main concern was being near the the entrance to the park so these hotels worked great for us.

I did however like the view of the park from the Carousel breakfast room. You could also see the fireworks from that room too.

We LOVE the Portofino Inn, it's about a 5-10 minute walk but has comfy beds and very clean rooms. Last time we stayed there I walked around barefoot just to test how clean the carpets were and honestly (and embarrassingly!) I think my feet were cleaner than they are when I walk around at home! It's always been very quiet when we stay there also. We also prefer it because it doesn't have the outdoor access rooms, you have to go into the building to get to the rooms.

We've stayed at Best Western-Park Place a few times - very clean - no problems ., and Portofino - also very clean, quiet and no problems.

we really liked the portofino. nothing too special but clean and a GREAT price :) also..fairfield inn. Hope you are successful in finding something !

I second the vote for Fairfield Inn. We have stayed at Hojo, Carousel and another I can't remember the name of and Fairfield Inn is our favorite if we can't stay on property.
