Nice/fun hotel for family of 6 b/w US and WDW

I was NOT going to go to Orlando this year, but, alas I am giving in. I am soo addicted. I tried to research other destinations, but with 4 kids 11,9,5,and 3 1/2 I am leaning towards Orlando again. We are on a tight budget this year, and I think we can afford more days at US than WDW. My dh hasan AP which expires Dec 3 so I could probably get 2 Pop Century rooms but would kind of like to have a separate bedroom area. We have never been to US so I am new to what is available in this area. We are either going early June or early October. Any advice on crowds at US would be appreciated. Thanks!!

And the HIFS with a good rep and a master bedroom w/ a door and with an Entertainment Book discount. It is 1 mile from Epcot WDW gates. And close to US.

We visited Universal from HIFS. It took about 15 minutes and it was easy from I-4. And, HIFS is definitely close to WDW.
