Nice dishes at a reasonable price

Another vote for Corelle. Ive been married 20 years now and have bought several different sets of "cute dishes" and finally got sick of constantly changing them and so we bought a simple white corelle set last year and I LOVE it
I also have 36 Corelle plates that I use when we have family get togethers - lightweight and sturdy - got them very cheap at Wayfare..we don't like paper plates for real food...but for my own daily use - prefer the fiestaware.

I will vote for fiesta! Everyone in my family gets fiesta when they get married. They go on sale all the time at kohls or Macy's and are amazing quality and come in so many fun colors

I like my Pfaltzgraph everyday dishes. We've used them everyday for 14 years and they still look great. I just got some replacement plates in my pattern. (Over the years a few had broken.) I like that they maintain their patterns for so long.
I prefer heavy stoneware to something glass or Corelle.
If I had to do it all over again I may choose Fiesraware instead because I do like the look and the warm colors they offer.

I love, love, love Corelle! My grandmother and mother owned the famous blue and green ivy patterns, and growing up I was always amazing at how hard it was to break them. I was gifted a blue floral set when we were married 14 years ago, and they're awesome. I don't think we've broken a piece, and trust me, with kids in the house they fall on our kitchen tile all the time!

Williams-Sonoma sells Fortessa pieces in white that are all mix and match. They are sold individually in stores and, I believe, in sets online. They are warranteed for 10 years against chipping. May be worth a look.

One of my kids has my Corelle from when we were first married. I got tired of it after 20 years and bought a new pattern.

Another vote for Corelle. Just added to our set with a service of 16. Love how lightweight they are and it all fits in the cabinets. Stoneware is too heavy for me and it always seemed to chip.

William Sonoma pantry love love love it is oven save too and easily replaceable.

Tried having stoneware but dishes always break and bowls always chipped, plus the glaze got foggy over time. Love my Corelle set.

I bought Fiestaware 6 years ago, open stock. Bought the square dinner and lunch plates, cereal bowls and the larger bowls. They don't fade, don't chip (I bang at least one of them against granite counter tops every time I empty the dishwasher!). They will break if you drop them on a hard floor, though. I've added pieces when I have Kohl's cash, since they are always on sale.

My mom bought me a set of Corelle way, way back when I moved out at 18. Many years later remodeling a kitchen I got fancy stoneware. Over time it chipped, cracked and was just a pain the butt to find somewhere to keep it. In the meantime I'd lost a bunch of weight and went looking for plates that weren't huge and would look full when I dished out my smaller portions. The only dishes I could find that fit that bill were Corelle. I bought two sets and literally left the stoneware behind when we moved. They're not fancy but they take a beating and keep going. I still have pieces from the set my mom gave me 30 years ago. (got rid of the plates because they were round and I went square)

I HATE my Fiesta dishes. We redid our kitchen 4 years ago and bought Fiestaware dishes. Mine are all chipped and we have broken all but two salad plates. I don't want to buy replacement salad plates if they are just going to break and chip too. I really don't know why I've had such terrible luck.

I am on my 4th set of dishes since I graduated from college 30 years ago. I started with a set of gray (with blue band) Pfaltzgraff, but food looked unappetizing on gray. When DH and I got married, we didn't use blue in our decor. So I bought a set of Homer Laughlin Stoneware in white. Big mistake...the silverware left gray marks all over everything and it always looked terrible. Not realizing this was a stoneware issue, I bought a new white set of stoneware from Pfaltzgraff. Again, it looked terrible with gray marks all over it. And those gray marks were so hard to get off! I did a little research and discovered that china does not get gray silverware marks on it. So I bought 2 sets of inexpensive white china from JC Penney. It is in a basket weave pattern. I wanted Nantucket Basket by Wedgwood, but it was too expensive for me. The JC Penney version was a great 2nd choice, and I love it! After 10 years though, I do have to replace some pieces due to chipping and breakage, and it is really hard to find on ebay or through Replacements.

I recently bought both my kids sets of Corelle from the Goodwill for pennies for their college apartment kitchens. That stuff seems to last forever!!

I got Corelle ones, I got some newer ones because I was tired of the design on the old ones. No reason they should not last indefinitely. They are tough, but can be broken, I have seen it happen. I like that they are lightweight too.

I have always wanted some Fiestaware though.

Eight years ago I bought a $20 set of dishes from Ikea. I use them everyday, and I am a klutz. Not one chip. Nothing has broken. It was 6 dinner plates, 6 salad plates, and 6 cereal bowls. Perfect. I prefer a set of 6 to 4 or 8. I have no use for any more mugs as they reproduce in my cabinets.

I also have a set of Red Vanilla dishes that I bought on Amazon. They have held up great too. (I have two homes which is why I have two sets of everyday dishes).

Op just wanted to let you know I have not had any issues with marks or chips with our William Sonoma pantry dishes although it is white set. I feel a set of white dishes is timeless you can match with other dishes for the holidays it works great.

I'm a huge fan of IKEA's no-frills dishes.

I like Fiestaware in theory but it's so heavy.

I like Corelle because it's light and can go in the dishwasher. They do chip over time, though, on the edges.

Also, definitely check any thrift stores nearby. Sets of dishes always seem to be available and some are very nice! And if you break them you won't feel bad.

Interesting thread. I'm also on the search for new dishes. We got a set when we got married 10 years ago. Unfortunately, many of the plates and bowls are now broken. Our set was from Macy's The Cellar and is no longer being sold so we can't just replace the broken plates and bowls.
Go to Replacements.com and you can probably find your missing pieces.
