Looking into a trip here at some point. When is the best time to go? Any recommendations on where to stay?

I'm really looking for any information as I have never been here.

Thanks :goodvibes

I love Niagara Falls! :goodvibes

It is only 4-5 hrs away from me. I stay at the Sheraton on the Falls.

I was there at the end of May & saw Peter Noone at the Fallsview Casino & Resort.

There is so much to do in that area. Just 10 miles north is Niagara on the Lake. If you go, please take a drive up that way. It is a very scenic drive and the old, historical town is so quaint! There is also a theatre group there (Shaw Festival Group) that I highly recommend! :goodvibes

And don't forget to ride The Maid of The Mist!

TC :cool1:

We stayed at The Embassy Suites Fallsview and loved it (Canadian side). Maid of the Mist is a must - big fun. Niagara-on-the-Lake is about 20 minutes from Niagara Falls. Lovely town. We went in the middle of August 2009 and it was pretty crowded. Next time, I will go in May or September to avoid the summer crowds. However, if you can only go in summer, don't let the crowds stop you. It wasn't terrible. Just lots of people everywhere - not unlike Disney World - :goodvibes

I stayed at the Ramada Niagara Falls in October 2009 (though it was called the Falls Plaza Hotel at the time). We walked to the falls and it was about 3/4 of a mile.

I was there in the fall for a marathon and would recommend the fall for a trip. It is cooler, less crowded, and if you take the drive up the parkway to Niagara-on-the-Lake (which I highly recommend) the changing leaves make it a cool ride. There are wineries along the way you could stop at and once in Niagara-on-the-Lake it is like a small European town you can walk around. It is about 15 miles.

We went in June, and saw everything we wanted to in one day. We were at my in-laws house, which was about 5 hours away, but had spent the previous night only about 1 hour away. We ended up not getting a hotel room. Of course, we didn't go over to the Canadian side.

I would suggest going in the summer, especially if you are going to go on the Maid of the Mist or the Cave of the Winds tour. How cold would those be in the spring? *shiver*

I have been to NF many times and really enjoy it. I'll add don't mis a visit to Niagra-on-Lake. I have stayed at ES &SFV and less expensive motels on Clifton Hill. When are you thinking of going? Falls view hotels can be very expensive. We always stay on the Canadian side.

We were there July 2010 and I would definitely recommend the Canadian side - Maid of the Mist is good but does get crowded the later in the day you go. The wineries nearby are brilliant but not so good for the driver in the party.

We're going next Friday. Staying at Best Western on the Canadian side. It will be my DSs first time there. We plan to do all the tacky stuff on the Canadian side, plus Cave of the Winds and Maid of the Mist. Visiting friends in Buffalo and Fredonia on the way there and back.

Anyone seen 'Oh, Canada, Eh?' It's a dinner show a la Hoop de Do. We might try to get in on Saturday night, but it's kinda spendy. We'll probably skip it unless someone here gives it a good review!

Love Niagara Falls! I recommend the Canadian side also, we've always found it to be more up kept and you have a better view of the falls. We stay at Sheraton on the Falls also and like it. It's worth getting a view of the falls in the evening so you can sit and watch the falls all lit up. They look so pretty and it's romantic in the evenings.

If you like to see the natural wonders, then get a Discovery Pass http://www.niagarafallsstatepark.com/PassToTheFalls.aspx So much fun!

Also, I strongly suggest going in the September/October months. Not so packed and still not horrible weather (usually).

Try the butterfly conservatory, it's one of the best I've been too, and we've been to many. None ever compare to that one to me.

Clifton Hills is where all the fun is http://www.cliftonhill.com/ in the evenings.

I hate to say this, and maybe it's just our taste but the food in Niagara Falls has never impressed me, so I won't suggest any places to dine at.

Even though I suggest staying on the Canadian side. I still suggest going to the park on the American side just to look at the falls from that viewpoint, it's amazing looking at the falls from all angles!

Me and my dh did it the week after Labor Day last year and the crowd level was very low. We stayed at the Sheraton on the Falls too, Canadian side. I think we got a room on the 16th floor over looking the Falls for $65. Buffet was pricy at nite I think $40 a person, but it was nice not having to go look for a resturant that evening.

Go to the falls after supper and early morning. The busses tend to come in around 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We did the Canadian side one after noon and evening and we got up early in the morning to take pictures, then drove to the American side and spent aboujt 2 hours on the U.S. side.

The gardens in front of the Sheraton is worth the stroll. I was pleasantly surprised. Heard some horror stories about how things were unkempt and not cleaned, but I didn't see any of those things.

Some guy wants to walk a tight rope across the Falls in September. That would be worth watching. But I don't think he has permission yet.

I was married there in early June 2010. We stayed at the Hilton Fallsview on the Canadian side and it was very nice but next time I would try the Sheraton. Seeing the falls from the hotel room was so cool. Canadian side is a must. There is so much to do and its so much fun! The weather was perfect in early June and the crowds were not bad at all.

Loved Niagra Falls but was chilly when we went so if went back would go when it is warm out.. :wizard:

We go to Niagara Falls whenever we visit family in Buffalo. The American side is absolutely craptastic; spend most of your time on the Canadian side.

I have to say I am not a big fan of NF in the summer. Too crowded for me. Hang on to your kids, the crowds just push on thru and you can get separated. Lots of expensive cheesy/touristy stuff to do though. Oh and if you are into people watching, you will see it all! lol .We go often and we were last up there on Memorial weekend. We did so much other stuff I think the only time we saw the Falls was when we crossed the bridge. We went to Marine Land, don't waste your money. Not much there.

I would avoid marineland too. I hated it. If you stay at the Sheraton check for the birth year rate. The first night is the regular price and the 2nd night is your year of birth. I like to buy an adventure pass. It has tickets to all the main things to do and passes to ride the people mover for 2 days http://www.niagarafallsontario.com/adventurepass.html

After many, many visits I would have agreed with you about the food until our visit last year. Olives on Clifton Hill was pretty good. The Four Brothers up in an area of town we never visit was fabulous Italian -- think old school w/ lots of dark wood & red leather. If you're heading toward Niagara on the Lake, which I agree is wonderful, the Pie Plate in Virgil (5 min from NOTL) is the kind of place that can make your mouth water just thinking about it.

Dining has always been a downside to Niagara visits, but when we go back these three are at the top of our list.

Definitely stay on Canadian side, but do make sure to visit the NY State Park & take advantage of the viewing there. It is lovely & much, much better than I ever would have dreamed. You can even walk across the bridge & catch the park shuttle right in the parking lot. Very fun, very well worth it.

We loved the Canadian side. Stayed at the Sheraton. Ate at the really, really high restaurant (it rotates too, can't recall the name). Loved the fireworks over the falls at night, and the falls lit up. We stayed for a fews days, and really enjoyed every minute. Did all the touristy things. Kids loved it too! I highly recommend it! (too bad NY doesn't make the American side nicer... wonder why they don't?)
