Dh and I are escaping for a couple of nights and we decided on Niagra Falls. We've been here a lot with the kids but not alone for 15 years. Now does anyone have any suggestions for things to do while we're there?

I agree - Casino - also, buffet at casino (no kids under 19 allowed!!), romantic walk by the falls, a movie at the Niagara Square cinemas, or lots of alone time in your nice room without kids;)

Some highlights from my 20-y.o. son's recent trip to the Falls. Choose any or all of these activities at your peril:

- visit some of the kitschy places along Clifton Hill
- almost get dragged into a bar fight at Boston Pizza :littleangel:
- win $350 playing blackjack at the casino

Ah, to be young, clueless, and invincible... ;)

If you like to shop, the outlet mall has some pretty good deals. The week after Christmas the Coach outlet was so packed with people they had to bring in crowd control.

The Outlet mall is at 7500 Lundy's Lane in Niagara Falls.

A few things to do during the winter:

1. Take the "behind the falls tour" - very cool (literally and figuratively!)
2. Go to the Hershey's store
3. have lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe
4. Go up Clifton Hill
5. Eat at the Keg in the Embassy Suites (9th floor maybe?) - it's a very nice restaurant with a great view of the falls
6. Be sure to walk down near the Falls, esp. at night. Should be lit up and romantic - be sure to bundle up and watch where you are walking - can get slippery with all the mist.
7. Go to the old casino (near the Crowne Plaza) as well as the new. the buffet there is cheaper than the new and wonderful!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Falls anytime of year.

HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII, ITS FUNNY BORN AND RAISED HERE AND WORKED HERE ALL MY LIFE IM 54, I KNOW THIS AREA LIKE THE BACK OF MY HAND. WHEN WE WERE YOUNG WE USED TO CROSS THE DITCH(the niagara gorge) AND BAR HOP. THE AMERICAN SIDE ISNT WORTH GOING TO ANYMORE. THE SKYLINE HAS CHANGED DRAMATICALLY IN THE LAST 5 YEARS. TOO MANY HOTELS. I THINK CLIFTON HILL IS BETTER THEN IT USED TO BE AND THE RATES FOR HOTELS ARENT AS HIGH NOW. THEY USUALLY GO UP ON THE MAY 2 4 WEEKEND AND DROP AFTER LABOUR DAY. IF YOUR GOING TO DO THE CASINO DO BOTH BUT YOU MIGHT GET LUCKIER AT THE OLD ONE.
I DONT THINK YOU SAID WHEN YOUR GOING? DONT TAKE ANY TOURS FROM THE HOTELS IN THE FALLS THEY ARENT WORTH IT YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING ON YOUR OWN. THE OUTLET MALL IS SMALL BUT HAS SOME DECENT STORES FOR CLOTHING. ITS NEXT TO THE QEW ON LUNDYS LANE. I SUGGEST YOU STAY IN THE FALLS AND DRIVE TO NIAGARA ON THE LAKE WHERE WE LIVE. IT USED TO BE THE CAPITAL OF CANADA, LOTS OF HISTORY HERE. THE FORT WHICH IS HAUNTED AND MANY OTHER HISTORICAL BUILDINGS. THERE ARE WINERIES EVERYWHERE HERE. I LIKE MY WINE AnD THERE ARE VINEYARDS ALL AROUND OUR HOME. GET A WINERY MAP IF YOU LIKE WINE. THERE ARE MANY B and Bs IN THE AREA. FRIENDS OF MY WIFES OWN ONE IN NIAGARA FALLS ALONG RIVER ROAD. NICE ROOMS GREAT BREAKFAST. BUT IF YOU LIKE B and Bs THERE ARE MANY. YOU HAVE ONLY A TWENTY MINUTE DRIVE BETWEEN NIAGARA FALLS AND NOTL. IF YOUR HIKERS YOU CAN GO INTO THE GORGE BY THE WHIRLPOOL. YOU COULD STAY IN NOTL BUT THAT CAN BE COSTLY. YOU CAN DO THE WHIRLPOOL BOAT RIDE. THEY TAKE YOU UP THE NIAGARA RIVER INTO THE WHIRLPOOL THOSE ARE ROUGH RAPIDS.
I KNEW 2 GUYS WHO WENT OVER THE FALLS TANDOM IN A BARREL ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO. THEY SURVIVED BUT WOULD NEVER DO IT AGAIN, BESIDES STUNTING IS ILLIGAL AND COSTLY IF YOUR CAUGHT. I SAY YOU CAN DO THE AREA IN A COUPLE DAYS.
DEPENDING WHAT TIME OF YEAR YOU GO WILL DETERMINE WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING.
YOU CAN VIEW THE FALLS BY HELOCOPTER IF YOU LIKE, THATS OUT BY THE WHIRLPOOL.
I COULD GO ON AND ON, ANY QUESTIONS I CAN GIVE MY OPINION.

For a great dinner try the Casa Dor'o Restaurant at the top of Clifton Hill. Awesome caesar and great Prime Rib

Thanks for all the great ideas. We are going in a couple weeks. I booked us a room at the Embassy so it will make going to the Keg for supper nice and easy. Dh is looking forward to the casino, where is the new one? We haven't been there since the old one opened up.

I think I'll pass this time;).

THE NEW CASINO IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE HILTON OVERLOOKING THE FALLS. YOUR WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE. WE LIKE THE OLD ONE FOR GAMBLING. I CAN CHECK BUT I THINK THE OUTDOOR SKATING RINK IS STILL OPEN AT TABLE ROCK OVERLOOKING THE FALLS. THERE IS A NICE RESTAURANT IN THE NEW CASINO OVERLOOKING THE FALLS ON THE SECOND LEVEL, I CANT REMEMBER WHAT ITS CALLED GREAT FOOD THERE. I GUESS I,LL HAVE TO FIND OUT NAME. WE ATE THERE FOR VALENTINES LAST YEAR. MiGHT BE WET ANd MILD WHEN YOUR THERE MAYBE BUSIER BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR GOING ON MARCH BREAK.
THE OUTBACK RESTAURANT IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET ALSO. YOU CAN WALK THERE.
