If he had ran down the field to the other end zone I think he would have scored two points not the six scored with a touchdown. If he was stopped the play is blown dead and is a failed extra point. This rule was changed recently, maybe at the beginning of this season. If I am wrong I am sure one of the experts will correct me.

That is correct. And after Roby fumbled on the run back, NE could have picked up the fumble and ran it back for their 2 point play. So it could have been INT, fumble, 2 point for NE!

That would have been a finish right up there with the Duke-Miami finish in college football this year. Except I am pretty sure there were errors made by the officials in the latter.

Seeing as I went to Ohio State (long before my man Roby!) and am now a Bronco season ticket holder...my head would have exploded!! :faint:

Carolina will pummel Denver. This could be as bad a Super Bowl as Seattle/Denver 2 years ago.
That is not a very good vote of confidence for your beloved Pats since Denver beat New England. If the Broncos are that bad, are you saying your Pats are even worse?

I like to think that the two best teams in the NFL played a close game yesterday, a game that came down to the last 17 seconds, with the two best quarterbacks and coaches, the #1 defense against the #1 offense, and the game could have gone either way. I think the AFC, whether it would have been the Pats or is now the Broncos, will show the NFC how football should be played.

Right ...they're happier that the Patriots lost than they are their team won. Speaks volumes for Patriots.

You think it's easy being a Patriots fan with all the winning they've done the last 14 years?

Come on out to Lions country and put in some time --- it will make looking like a Patriots' fan a breeze.

2 QBs that used to be the best who are now a fraction of what they used to be (particularly Manning). This was all about the #1 defense taking over the game. The Patriots don't have the #1 offense ... they only had the 4th best offense among the 12 playoff teams.

As far as the SB, Carolina is going to embarrass Denver - and they would have humiliated New England. They have a team setup the way football should actually be played - hard-nosed defense and a strong running game that you pound right down the throat of the defense. There is no AFC team that is constructed to compete well with Carolina.

Apart from the football talk from all of you experts of the game, I loved seeing Archie there for Peyton when he left the podium after the game. I have always felt that Archie got a raw deal while in the NFL. I know it works that way but he played for the Saints, a really bad team at the time. I don't think he ever had a chance to show how good he was in the pros. And a really sad family situation on top of that. That makes it especially gratifying to see the success of Peyton and Eli.

I am also pulling for Eli to win the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

And it's a joke people so don't freak. :)

I feel your pain. The Pats sucked for a loooong time before getting good. They've only been good for the last few years. If it helps, I always root for the underdog when I'm watching other games, so I root for the Lions a lot!

Well, I'm sure you must based on that system. Talk about sucking for a looooong time!

I wonder why? I mean, with Manning being the better QB and all.

Maybe it was because they want to prove themselves by playing the BEST team in the AFC, not second best?

As long as CAR can keep Scam calm, they stand a good chance of winning. I'll be cheering for both teams, with a bias towards DEN.

If the Broncos player were to return the interception all the way to the end zone, Denver would have scored two points. Regardless of the result of the interception return, New England had to kickoff to Denver. The fumble recovery was meaningless. Short of the NE player picking up the fumble and taking it into the end zone, the play is over at that point.

And while Denver was the underdog in the game, I would say it was far from shocking the sports world. Denver was the higher seed.

Thanks. I asked DH after the game, but he was too busy doing somersaults and cartwheels over NE losing. And he was boasting that his Eagles were the only team that won in Foxboro this season.

Now THAT would have been exciting!! And I'm sure many Denver fans and New England haters would have had heart attacks. ;)

I predicted NE would recover the onside kick, get close to the end zone, then kick a field goal as time expired to win.

Congratulations, Carolina Panthers!

Apparently the experts are predicting this to come down to a defensive battle. That is not always the most exciting but it should be a good game. Also a contrast of a new star QB against one of the greatest.

As far Cam Newton, I hope he keeps his head right. This headline today about Vince Young gave me flashbacks.

He was NFL Rookie of the year, Heisman runner up and it just makes me sad to see this. He obviously had the talent. He just went off the rails somewhere early in his career. During his last season with the Titans I remember him leaving the stadium with a gun. There was a city wide search because they were worried he was suicidal.
