Congrats to the Broncos. They definitely wanted it more. Both defenses played great, but the Broncos' were amped up. Except for the last 2 minutes, Brady looked awful. Kept on seeing ghosts and double hopping the ball to the receivers, like he was skipping rocks on a lake. And then there were the trademark 'McDaniels way-too-cute' plays that would grind a drive to a halt. The game plan yesterday may have cost him a HC job next year. Some might blame Gostkowski for the loss. Not me. The Pats had 3 qtrs to make up the difference. So... There's always next year.

The Cats and Cards... WHOA!!!!!! Talk about a mismatch. I hope Wade Phillips was watching.

My prediction (barring any surprise injuries or felonies):

Panthers - 31
Broncos - 13

Watching the NFC game, it's getting silly. Is 49 points a record for a conference championship?

I would guess so.

I remember the Cardinals breaking the playoff record in 2010 when they scored 51 in a Wild Card game.

What happened to staying on topic (Who will win the Superbowl)? Instead its turned into another Patriots bashing thread. Sad.

Now that the table is set for the Superbowl, and my original prediction is the opposite of what I thought, based on the 2 teams playing, I think the Panthers will come out on top. The way they played last night was consistent with their entire season. They haven't lost anything and didn't skip a beat. The Bronco's absolutely earned their spot with the way they played yesterday. As previously mentioned, their defense was great! Offense was good too but I believe it was mostly their defense that got them to the superbowl. Unless Denver can pull of a couple "miracle" plays, Carolina should easily control that game.

I have no ill will towards the Bronco's or Manning. As a team and an individual, they always have great things to say about their opponents (specifically the Patriots and Brady). I see the same from the Patriots and Brady. Some don't want to see that and continue to cast them in a bad light. That's fine and your right to do so. I just want to mention that when all the hoopla around Brady was swirling, Manning was the first to stand by his side. Same with all the HGH garbage. Brady was one of the first to defend Manning. Both organizations have mutual respect for the other. It's unfortunate the fans (on all sides) are the ones to drag it through the mud.

As a football fan, I hope the Superbowl is close and entertaining, but I don't think it'll be as close as I'd like. Good luck to both teams.

From the very first post in the thread
I know this is a late start, and that the Wild Card weekend is over. But since no one had started a playoffs thread, I figured I would. Use this thread to sing the praises of your favorite teams to the mountain tops; or... Use it to talk trash about your favorite team's opponent (Disboards ethic codes still apply).

Have all the fun you can with this. Because, after Feb, there will be no football until Set.

Sour grapes much. I may not be the expert you claim to be but I know enough football to see that Peyton is the best. Your bias does not make you an expert, just a Brady fan. When your guy throws interceptions in the process of losing it is hard to claim he was the best.

I am going to start by saying that I have two favorite teams in the NFL, and they played each other yesterday. And both have been my favorite teams for decades, so no bandwagon fan here!

I have to agree with patfan here - you don't seem to know much about football. The Patriot's o-line was awful yesterday. The worst I've ever seen in a Partiot's game. Their defense is average at best, which has been the case for many years. Something was way off on the o-line for the Patriots in that game and it affected Brady's performance in a bad way, NOT to mention the horrible playcalls by the OC. Going for it when the game is on the line not only once, but TWICE, on 4th down was a horrible decision that pretty much cost the Patriot's a chance to win the game.

Now, on the Manning. I have to admit - I was nervous about Manning going into the game. When he is on, he can hit every play. When he is off, he is OFF - and will lose the game for the team. Yesterday, he was more "on" than off, but he wasn't perfect by any means. Remember, it came down to the last 17 seconds where NE could have tied it up. It wasn't a blowout, even with the Patriot's playing just about the worst playoff game I've ever seen them play. The credit for the Bronco's yesterday doesn't go to Manning - it goes to the defense. They shut down Brady's offense, which is no easy task and something that most teams cannot do. And of course, the rest of the credit goes to Denver's O-line; the real unsung heroes that make the QB look good. For proof.....just look at what happened to Brady when he o-line didn't work. Made him look like crap, didn't it.

REAL football is not about the QB....why do you think the first thing every QB does when they win is thank their offensive line??!!

Ah, very good. I didn't realize all those posts were from Bronco's fans.

Congrats to the Broncos and the Panthers. I didn't think the Broncos D would be quite as dominant as they were, but they won it for Denver yesterday. Payton did enough to win, which is about as much as you can expect from him at this point in his career. He's not likely to go out there anymore and just take over a game like he used to be able to.

And damn, the Panthers look really good.

I was at the game. I am happy to report that the fans I saw were civil and walking back to the bus, I saw a lot of congratulating between Pats and Broncos fans. That game was great and you have to respect the skills of both teams.

Manning was a class act and after the game, went over to Brady and Belichick to tell them both how much he has respected them and the Patriots organization over the years. At the press conference afterwards, Manning was asked why he did that. He said that he needed to tell them how much he respected them after 17 years of a very special rivalry because he might never have that kind of chance again (hints of a retirement?.) Brady too was constantly singing the praises of the Broncos all week. The NFL players could really learn something about class and how to conduct yourself before and after a game from both of these outstanding men.

Parenting fail here too...... somehow my son became a Ravens fan (smack dab in the middle of Patriots Nation!). :D

LHM, how do you people live with yourselves???? :faint:

No kids, but if my dogs ever jumped ship from the Kingdom, they would be out! Out on the porch, that is!

Agreed on all^^

I want the Bronco's to win, but Carolina's offense is younger, faster, and more agile. Even with a great defense, Carolina is going to be hard to stop. Manning will have to do enough to get on the scoreboard a few times and hope the defense can do the rest, but really, that's not the worst thing - to expect a team to earn a win with a good QB and a good defense. Makes them a more well-rounded team that just being able to run up a score.

If Manning is on point, this will be a good Superbowl game.

Now, I'm not endorsing any gambling, buuuuuuuuuut...

This just in. Vegas has released the spreads. After seeing these numbers, I think it's designed to spread the money around, rather than a prediction of the difference.

Carolina -3 1/2 over Denver
+/- 44 1/2

We did that. Tossed him out on his ear.

Oh, wait. I forgot he's away at college. :p

REAL football is not about the QB....

You do realize that you are basing your insult toward me and my total understanding of football on my one statement that Peyton is a better QB? He clearly was last night. I did not even get into the discussion of other aspects of the game. How can you possibly be so quick to throw insults without knowing anything else? That says much more about you. I guess if you can't defend how Brady played against Peyton last night then it is OK to attack someone you nothing about.

REAL football is about the whole team, including the QB. It is hard to win when your QB is throwing interceptions.

Sorry you feel insulted. Not my intention. I usually only reserve judgement for people who pipe in but can only name the quarterback and a wide reciever on a team without googling it first. And, yes, I was doing the opposite of pitting QB vs QB, just FYI, since the game as a whole wasn't just about them. I assume you mean "how Brady played against Denver's defense and how Manning played against NE's defense?" since the QB's don't go head to head in a game.

(ETA - I am actually on your side. I want the Bonco's to win)

I'm a little surprised it's not a little bigger spread (for Carolina). I would have guessed it would be closer to 5 or 6 points, but hey, Vegas is pretty good at these things. ;)
