NFL Draft this week!

I wonder if the Rams are secondguessing their pick.....

I know you are a huge Florida Gator fan...

And I also know you have never missed an opportunity to take a dig at Sam Bradford...

But I simply have to ask...WHY in the world would you wonder if the Rams are second guessing their pick? Bradford has been the number 1 rated quarterback for 2 years. He would have been number 1 last year, and he ended up being number 1 this year.

The only time anyone had any doubts was after his surgery. And after his pro day workout, those doubts were put to rest.

Again...just a simple question. Why do you think they would second guess their pick?

not him personally and definitely not a dig to him, congrats for going #1 - but (second guessing) on picking a QB since there are still two out there and those three had been deemed to be pretty much on the same playing field (during the season). Not sure where their next pick is or was, or any of their needs for that matter.

eta....of course no one could have predicted McCoy and Cl would still be available....so I guess it really doesn't matter.

Where are all those people who said Tebow wouldn't go in the first round? Out eating their humble pie, I suppose.

I said he wouldn't go in round 1, can't help Denver got stupid... I even know Josh McDaniels personally & would tell him he is nuts ;)

Pretty funny article - Colorado Governor, curing cancer, baking cookies?
Although, I have to say he will be a breath of fresh air after Cutler's infantile antics.

Tim Tebow
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- Tim Tebow's throwing motion claimed its first victim Thursday night.

The Jaguars. They pretty much threw away their future.

I'm not sure Jacksonville's loss will be Denver's gain, but Los Angeles will surely benefit. The Jaguars blew their last great chance to keep the Mayflower vans away.

Their hometown savior is about to ascend to the Mile High City. Approximately 5,280 feet lower, the Jaguars threw an outdoor draft party next to the Atlantic Ocean.

A few thousand people showed up. When the No. 10 pick was announced, all you could hear was the surf.

"Who?" one fan yelled.

Tyson Alualu, that's who.

Nothing against Alualu, who may well turn out to be the finest Hawaiian-born defensive tackle in Jacksonville history. The lack of sacks isn't Jacksonville's biggest worry. It's the lack of fans.

The Jaguars are all but giving away season tickets, and almost nobody's buying. Tebow would have been the silver bullet, instantly killing rumors that Wayne Weaver wants to sell. And he wouldn't have even had to throw a pass.

The great debate over Tebow's throwing motion will now consume Denver for the next few months. It'll sure be more fun than arguing whether Brandon Marshall should be traded, arrested or deported for acute lack of character.

I think Denver will be thrilled to get Tebow, but what do I know? What does anybody know?

Put 100 NFL gurus in a room and you'll get 100 different opinions, ranging from Tebow's the next Steve Young to he's the next Steve Martin. We'll know in a couple of years. In the meantime Tebow will:

Spend 18 hours a day studying tape, working out or getting Josh McDaniels coffee. Spend his free time baking cookies for orphans. Be nominated to run for governor of Colorado.

Once they meet him, even the members of the Denver chapter of N.O.W. will be cheering for Mr. Abstinence. The difference is the Broncos didn't need the Tebow Experience to keep fans interested.

Jacksonville did. Actually, Jacksonville needs about two million more residents, 30 more Fortune 500 companies and Bill Belichick if it wants to sell enough tickets to keep the L.A. vultures away.

Since it won't get any of those, Weaver should have ordered his coaching staff to take Tebow. Drafting him wouldn't have been a football decision. As Jerry Jones slurred, "Heee'd ne-vur git on the field."

Jack Del Rio was apparently drinking the same stuff. He needs to win now, and Tebow needs time. So the Jaguars used the 10th pick on a player from Cal whom many projected would be available 20 spots lower. The big moment was shown on a huge TV screen set up at the Sea Walk Pavilion.

"Alualu is tough, quick and has heavy hands," the NFL Network announcer said.

Jacksonville fans were the ones with the heavy hearts. Tebow was huge in Jacksonville before he became a national cult hero. Every fan didn't want Timmy to ride back into town on his white horse, but all of them would have been caught up in the story.

The buzz would have had people lining up to buy season tickets Friday morning. So what if Tebow would only have held a clipboard for the foreseeable future?

He's not only the most popular player in Florida history. He might be the most popular person in Florida history. Just having him on the sideline, giving speeches and curing cancer would have been enough.

The Jaguars were lucky to get 40,000 to their games last year. Tebow would have gotten that many to show up to watch him perform another circumcision. Has Alualu ever even held a scalpel?

"Wayne Weaver wants to move the team," one fan moaned.

I asked his name and all he said was "Mickey Mouse." At last his buddy was still sober enough to give me his real name.

It was Micah Dyal. He was wearing a specially-made No. 15 Jaguars jersey. And I swear on Tebow's Bible, the name Dyal put on the back was "MOVE."

"As in the Jaguars are going to have to move since they didn't take Tebow?" I asked.

"That's right," Dyal said.

It won't happen anytime soon. But it will happen before Tebow takes the oath of office as Colorado's governor.

"Let's get out of here," Mickey Mouse said.

As he and a couple thousand cohorts shuffled into the night, the emcee took the stage.

"All right," he said, "let's hear it for Alualu!"

Through the surf, you could hear a couple of people clapping. They probably work for Mayflower.

Seeing how this years Orange Bowl was played by Iowa and Georgia Tech. And that you said you're friends son "declared" (which means he was an underclassman and is a top 10 pick. He must be either Bryan Bulaga of Iowa or Derrick Morgan of Georgia Tech. Since you are from Illinois, it would be more likely he is Bryan Bulaga who is also orginially from Illinois.

And you would be correct. Good sleuthing ;)

Bulaga goes #23 (two ahead of Tebow) in the first round to Green Bay - not exactly his preference for the Chicago Bears, but close!

was he the one they were commenting that his photo looked liked it already belonged in the Green Bay line up? If so, he's a big guy, and yep, I could have seen that photo flashed on a Monday night!

6' 6", 315 lbs . . . yeah, he's big.

:confused::crazy2:

Sums up how I feel about the first round...

David who?

Look up the comments in Denver - seems like the majority of their fans think the Tebow pick was terrible. (Smart fans.)

Gator fans aren't the only people in Jacksonville and the ones complaining loudest about the Jags not drafting Tebow are likely not big Jaguar fans anyway, probably don't have season tickets, and probably were never going to buy season tickets - they spend Sunday mornings recovering from their post-Gator-game hangovers.

Tebow will hold a clipboard for two years. He's not fast enough to play running back. He's not big enough or fast enough to be a tight end. He's not fast enough to be a safety or linebacker. He's stuck. He was a perfect system quarterback for the Florida system in college, but he just plain doesn't fit the NFL world. It is not the same game.

Any "Jaguar fan" who abandons the Jaguars because they did not draft Tebow was never a real Jaguar fan to begin with and good riddance to them.

I agree with you re the Jags "fans"....would it be great to have him close? generate revenue? sure, but it would have done nothing for him or the team really.

Is he good enough to play in the NFL? I am not so sure, but I do hope he is able to grow and be given a shot. I don't think the QB's Denver has can offer him a thing....that is why I wish he had a really good veteran he could grow under. Oh well, who knows what will transpire down the road. I hope this whole group of kids (2010) does well....seeing what they are being thrown in - this isn't your ole swimming hole anymore!

and hey - those guys holding a clipboard usually make a pretty penny and aren't so banged up come Monday morning!:thumbsup2

I still don't understand all of the Tebow hate...

He beat Sam Bradford, he won the heisman trophy, 2 national championships (he wasn't the main QB in the first one but he was the key)

He's broken tons of Florida and SEC records, yet he gets absolutely NO respect from a lot of people. I just don't get it. :confused3

He did all that running a spread offense out of the shotgun. I can't think of one big time college QB who ran the spread or run&shoot that became a top pro QB.

I can think of a ton that were busts: Alex Smith, Akili Smith, Klingler, Couch, Ware.

Heisman really doesn't mean much with College QBs. List of the last Heisman QBS ( minus those just drafted):

Matt Leinart, Jason White, Carson Palmer, Eric Crouch, Chris Weinke, Danny Wuerffel, Charlie Ward, Gino Torretta, Ty Detmer, Andre Ware

Palmer is really the only one that has amounted to much.

On top of Tebow playing in a trick offense his throwing motion is completely unsuited for the NFL.

He knows that which is why he is trying to change it 'after' his college playing days are over.

We should all be so lucky as to hold a clipboard and make a half-million or more per year!

Smart man. :thumbsup2

Realism is not the same thing as hate. He was a great college player - full respect. But that doesn't always translate into the NFL, especially not from the spread with big mechanical flaws.

You can't just take a great jazz musician and stick them into an orchestra to play Beethoven - it just ain't the same ballgame.

Tebow has a lot of potential. It's just going to take time for him to adjust. I say he may start out as a Runningback.....maybe, if he's lucky and if he's ready he'll start as a quarterback. But, if Orton played like he did last year, or if Quinn plays to his potential, Tebow may not see that Quarterback position in Denver.

Well, I am happy with our picks from last night. We got Clausen. Are there any ND fans here that can tell me more about him, what you guys think about him? I have to be honest, I did not watch him play much. I have heard all of the rave reviews about him from the commentators; I realize that he got high ranking. Honestly I did not expect for him to still be there at our 48 pick. However, he was and we got him. It seems to be a great thing! I am thrilled that we got LaFell. Since we got Armanti Edwards with a third pick I hope we will get defense guys today.

I can't tell you much more about him, but Clausen gets rave reviews and seems to have put up great numbers.

Our class is shaping up as follows:

Rd1
7 Haden - Browns
18 Maurkice Pouncey - Pitt
25 Tebow - Denver

Rd2
21 (53) Cunningham - Pats
22 (54) Dunlap - Cinn
30 (62) Spikes - Pats

Rd3
11 (75) Wright - Bears

Rd4
15 (113) Hernandez - Pats

Rd5
28 (159) Riley COOOOOper - Eagles

Rd6
no Gators

Rd7
???

waiting to see what happens to Dustin Doe, Ryan Stamper, Pierre-Louis, Brandon James and Anderson.

There are many who had Clausen rated higher than the #1 pick Sam Bradford. He was not the reason Notre Dame was losing - their defense was terrible. He had good stats. Will he play well in the NFL? Maybe, maybe not. Same as with Bradford. Neither of them are as good as Peyton Manning coming out of college.

Boston is now Gainesville-north, lol.

USF History in the NFL Draft

FSU and Miami's web sites don't seem up to date.....

I did a bit of research on him today. I have read his stats and heard all of the great reviews. I watched the video of his QB camp with Gruden on ESPN website; Clausen seems quite confident in his own abilities.

Lillygator, I had also hoped we would get Riley Cooper, but we didn't. We got LaFell, which I am thrilled about, and the next pick went to Armanti Edwards. I read great things about him, too. He played QB in college, but our guys are planning to use him to run back and then train for a WR. He did play WR in high school.
