NFL admits mistake....

Terrible officiating has plagued the league for years, however some recent calls really make you wonder about the bias of the refs! I think Joey Porter had it right when he said that it was obvious that they wanted the Colts to win (BTW, he will be getting a nice hefty fine from the NFL for that one)

That is SO true. All season the Colts have been the chosen ones. Too bad Peyton Manning couldn't be more of an adult and admit their loss was not all because of his offensive line not protecting him, but the entire team. That was a really childish comment. I never thought I'd be rooting for Pittsburgh to win!!

The calls all weekend were horrible. I think all the refs need to watch the tapes and go back to school.

I, too, was pretty sick over the Pats. I'm in mourning this week. :sad1: And now Mangini is leaving. :scratchin

There was no question that the Colts def line made contact with the Steelers! That was what Cowher was arguing! If you didn't call a penalty against the Steelers how could you not call it on the Colts (who were all over the Steelers offensive line) :confused3

The interception call was still amazes me. How you can look at that footage and have defintive reason to overturn the call on the field is simply unbelievable. It looked more like an interception (including complete possesion of the ball) in the replay than it did in real time. That ref should be closely reviewed!!!

Joey wont be recieving a fine from the NFL as originally planned. I guess with that move they are also admitting to cheating :confused3

Who can forget the pass interference non call when the Steelers were on the 30??? And the thing about the false start was that NO ONE EVER CALLED A PENALTY!!! They just kinda stopped the game and said ok, let's keep going. I'm sure the NFL is doing some :worship: that the Steelers won - otherwise they'd have some real questions to answer about the officiating (because you know after this it'll just get swept under the rug unfortunately). I feel bad for all of those teams who have been subject to these ridiculous calls.

Is the NFL the only major sport that still does not use full time officials? I can remember when all these guys had regular jobs during the week and officiated on the weekend.

Speaking of bad calls, how about when the whole line of the Colts jumped offside, and the refs said, "its not a penalty" HUH?

I'm still scratching my head over that one. :scratchin

Bill Cowher said in his news conference. "Don't take it out on the officials they're only human. They're doing the best job they can." Pretty funny a comment like that coming from Bill Cowher. Wonder if those would have been his comments if the Steelers lost the game.

I'm betting, NOT!

Even though I like Instant Reply, IMHO, it is not being used effectively. Plays are being reviewed in slow motion that change the entire outcome of a game.

The "non touchdown" catch in the Bucs - Redskins game is my big pet peeve. The Bucs lost a chance to win when the reception that never touched the ground & was controlled for 2 steps (IMHO) was ruled an incompletion because it appeared in slo mo IR that the receiver didn't properly control the ball.

Ugh. I understand the need for the sanctity & air of "infallibility" about officiating, but there also needs to be accountability of officials when they screw the pooch. I wonder how often a referee has been given a forced vacation for blowing a call or losing control of a game? Not very often I bet.

Bucs shoulda' won  .

Pats should have too.

But in the end, they BOTH threw their games away (along with the freakin' Bears.....)
