Any one else considering getting a NEXUS card instead of a passport ? It is $ 50 for 5 years and the picture is included .Children under the age of 18 must apply but, if eligible, are admitted to the program free of charge.

Not us. We all have passports - always have. It's the best piece of picture ID there is IMO If you spread out the passports, it's not such a money hit all at once. Childrens' passports are cheaper than adult passports too - that helps :goodvibes We also enjoy travelling overseas so it's a no-brainer for us to have passports kwim? :goodvibes

The Nexus sounds cheaper and each family has to weigh the pros/cons of having the Nexus or having passports. Whatever works best for you is the right choice :thumbsup2

I hope you have a wonderful vacation! :wizard:

I applied for my husband and kids to get Nexus cards (I already have mine) because they were cheaper than passports, we live in a border city and cross frequently, they are good for travel in the Carribean and Mexico (as well as the U.S.) and we are not travelling any farther than that in the near future. Applying for the Nexus for us was easy as we could apply online. We will then will go over for the interview in a couple of weeks. Should take us about 1 hour or so and then we will shop after. It depends on what you will use it for.

We have Nexus for myself, wife and two kids. $100 for all 4 of us for 5 years is definitely worth it, but we live about 10 minutes from the border and I can drive across to fill up on gas, buy milk etc. The card has actually paid for itself in savings on those things. We'll do day trips down to Belingham, WA and the occasional weekend in Seattle.

If you're only crossing a couple of times a year it may not be worth it, but any more than that and I definitely feel it's worthwhile. It's great to see a 30 minute border wait, drive right by it, and be waved through (usually).

We all have passports too.

We have Nexus..but we have Passports too. I wouldn't just have Nexus. But we travel a lot.

just a note: when we got our nexus, they said that because it is a US government issued id, Canadian Customs does not have to accept it and can request other form of ID....this is the info we received Last December when we went for our interview, it was stated by both US Immigration as well as Canadian Immigration people. If you are returning though nexus then you are fine...but if you travel with even 1 person who does not have nexus in your vehicle you cannot use nexus lane. These are just things you need to consider.

Otherwise I think nexus is great!:goodvibes

I also live in a boarder city and got passports instead on the Nexus just so I can fly out of Canada to WDW since that is my only destination:rotfl:
I normally fly out of the states but I have seen good deal through Canadian airlines!

Yes..at the A/P and as above when all in the vehicle have Nexus at the land crossings. They can however, randomly select you or your car for further checks.

It is also if you haven't anything to declare, or you have the declaration forms (I'm not sure what they are called since I didn't want them, they give them to you when you get your Nexus) filled out for taxes to submit. Otherwise, if you have purchased anything your card can be taken back.
I'm not that worried about re entering Canada. As long as my husband has his other ID it shouldn't be a problem.
