Next time I book VWL, I'm requesting the Dumpster View......

This is why I have yet to stay at the WLV's. We have ventured to stay at the BCV's and were pleased with our room location. We own at the BWV's and that is our favorite resort; however, I would enjoy the Lodge at Christmas but the idea of paying premium points for a dumpster keeps me from doing it. I can stay in a standard at the BWV and have a better view on alot fewer points.

If I owned at the WLV's I would start a serious e-mail campaign in favor of reduced "standard" point cost for those rooms "dumpster". I wouldn't have a problem paying premium for the good views but not for trash.

To some, view may not be important, but the more we go to Disney the more down time we take. This generally includes quality time on the balcony with a nice beverage. Looking at a dumpster would not be part of this peaceful and relaxing senerio.

SnowWitch, the Lodge is gorgeous and I recommend you "go for it!" I too feared the "dumpster view" -- I obsessed for days before we left -- but overall, the Lodge has primarily lovely views. The villas sweep away from the main lobby down a long hallway, and only the very last rooms on each floor can see the "dumpster" -- actually a trash and laundry processing area, I believe. I am guesstimating that no more than 4-8 rooms even know this area exists... The rest of the rooms look at woods, paths, pool, landscaping, etc. We own at Beach Club and with that service road that runs behind it, I think your chances of getting what I would call a "bad view" are much higher at BCV. I also agree with you on the points issue, however -- I think whoever gets "stuck" with those end rooms deserves a break on points.

What are the room numbers that are close to the dumpster?

Here is a link with some room reports and it will give you some view comments. http://members.aol.com/InstImpres/wildernesslodge.pdf This will give you an idea of “sectional views”. It is extremely difficult to ask for a specific room (as well as trying on the CM’s). With the new room ready policy, guests have reported getting several choices at check-in and this may than help

As for the concern of getting "stuck" with this room (though I admit I did refuse it), the Lodge is beautiful and I think even more terrific for solo or quiet adult getaway. I wouldn't not make a ressie at VWL just because of the dumpster.

Good luck

Spent a week at BCV last summer with an EPCOT view(ie top of Spaceship Earth) I spent every night hear CLICK CLICK CLICK of the cars going over that bridge. Dumpsters are quiet.

Gracey: we checked in at 11:30'ish on Saturday. We came back down to the front desk, requested another room. A CM - Nita - was very understanding, came up with room 4559. She wanted us to see the view & be sure we were happy with it before she issued it to us. She took us to the room, view was fine. By the time we got back to the front desk...it was gone. She never put it on "hold". Nothing else availible till next day, we dsecided to stay put.

Granny: Yes, that was me, chasing down the train at 3:30 am in nothing but my swimsuit. Not one of my finer moments.

Hey, up until now we've been very lucky with our room draw. Until DVC see's fit to move the dumpster area, we members are just going o have to live with it. Just wondering..... any other cash deluxe resort have a view like this ? I don't think the guests at GF would stand for such a thing.

Don't forget that a reduced number of points for those rooms, means an increase elsewhere. They can not have more points sold for a resort than there are points available.

While the dumpster view would certainly not be my first choice, I think it is a tad overblown here. It is pretty much obscured from the lower levels by shrubbery, and the higher levels you have to look down at it. The pictures make it look like the dumpster is the only thing in your panoramic field of vision. This is not true, as there is also some nice landscaping that is seen from a dumpster view villa.

That being said, I am miffed as to why DVC does not hide the dumpster and surrounding area. This seems like an easy task for Disney.

I too had room 3562 on my last trip. While it's true that on the lower floors the shrubbery hides the view and from the upper floors you need to look down, I really felt like the dumpster was all I could see when I looked outside. I will agree however, that overall the room was very nice, we don't mind being far from the elevators. Next summer we are staying at BWV again since my kids are anxious to try the slide at the Luna pool.

MG - enough BWV members complainted about the parking lot view - so when they came up with Standard view - the preferred view was not changed at all.

but DVC say it would never again make different views - based on complaints from members.

True, but didn't DVC change the point structure at BWV before all the points were sold? I can see how that could be done. I think it would be much more difficult once all the points are sold, unless DVC could somehow exercise ROFR, then 'terminate' that number of points.

KNWViking's comment here about "Would the folks at the Grand Floridian tolerate this?" really hit home for me. On Saturday, before we drove north, we visited the GF. I noticed that all the lounge chairs -- the ones by the pools -- had cushions on them! DH laughed that for what those folks are paying per night, they deserves cushions for their fannies. But later it bugged me when I used the bathroom and the toilet paper was SOFT... My son had a runny nose all week and kept asking "Mom, why are the tissues so HARD here?" It really bugged me. I know we pay for every "upgrade" in dues, and I can live without the cushions, but I think DVC members are as worthy as GF folks when it comes to "soft" paper!

And we're talking about 20% of the rooms, not a hand full of rooms.

everyone, trust me and believe me.... when you have these rooms (and there must be quite a few as we had 4556 in addition to the ones mentioned)...you will see for yourself the view is hard to ignore no matter WHERE you try to look lol. i dont sit outside on my porch at home to look at trash and cement and used towels and sheets, i hardly want to use a wealth of points to do so during my precious vacation time. if you are just sleeping in your room and staying at a holiday inn then put on a smile and cope. if you are paying big bucks or using 2 years worth of points to stay at the magnificent lodge, you shouldnt have to undergo this. after joining dvc we DO tend to stay in our villa and relax and lounge. i like the view out my deck doors into an open field at home a heck of a lot better that i do the vwl dumpster area lol....
::yes:: were usually NOT the complaining type but sometimes you just HAVE to speak up ... thanks... my rant is over lol.

KNWVIKING -- Sorry about your dumpster view! I had to laugh at the rest of your post. DH is in the Army and we have NEVER received orders for some place we wanted to go. We've often thought about putting something bizarre at the top of the list to see what they would do. Our luck though we'd get it.

There aren't many studios on the 5th floor, just two lockouts are there, so it isn't likely to get a studio on the top floor. The four rooms on the ends of floors 2-4 are all dedicated studios.

Also, about the boardwalk. One time we had a standard view points room that was on the first floor looking straight in to the roof of some sort of service building. There was no view. And that was standard view points. So you can get bad views at boardwalk for stand view points, and I think the end of the hall at wilderness lodge villas is about half way down the hall at boardwalk.

RE: asking for something and getting the opposite. Corporate America is much the same as military (and Disney!) in that respect... DH and I work for same Fortune 100 chemical company, at a site in the east/central US, and we asked once to be transferred to the east coast (dh's father had cancer at the time and we felt a need to be closer to him, living on the northeast coast, near Philly). The company promptly offered us Texas. Go figure.

As for dumpster view -- I agree -- seems like the Disney Art of Camoflauge is needed here. If they can make Florida seem like a wintery mountain lodge retreat, they can surely find a way to hide a dumpster. Surely even a Disney imagineer-in-training could come up with something...

Now THAT'S a great idea! :)

Seriously...it's no big deal. Disney just reminds me of the Navy. After boot camp and school, you fill out your "Dream" sheet of your top three duty stations. Complete waste of time. Some sarcastic lifer reads them, shreds them, and then just plays "einie, meanie, minnie, moe" and you wind up in bum

Same thing happened in the army too. LOL!

HumphreyBear, yes you can probably get a poor view at the BW in either Standard or preferred. I have been a member for 5 years and have had more than a few stays there and have been very pleased w/ standard views. Now having said that my point is "It's standard view." If its less than pleasing to the eye, oh well you saved points. At the WLV you don't have that option and I think thats unfair to the owners at the Lodge to pay premimium points for what may be a dumptser view.
