Do they ever change the number of occupants that a resort holds when they refurbished it(studios)? For some reason, in my mind, I thought they referbe'd a location and the studio went from sleeping 4 to 5 a few years back.
If they add an additional sleeping surface (i.e. under TV pull down bed) they can increase the state occupancy.

So which refurb do people think will be completed first:

BLT or BWV?

All listed need it badly. But the two I wont book at UNTIL the are remodeled is BLT and HHI.(Vero needs love too but isn't listed)

Treehouses are in the least need, IMO.

I get that, but have they done that before? Ever converted a room from 4 to 5?

Definitely HH resort. They were due a full refurb last year. Both BR and HH were on the list for a full refurb. I have the list if anyone wants to see it.
So with 4 resorts due for a hard refurb in 2023 (AKV, BLT, BWV, Treehouses) - where are we placing our bets for which one will be up next?

If they do convert a studio to additional occupancy (4 to 5), do they have to reduce capacity elsewhere to comply with resort occupancy limits or fire regulations etc.?
Nope. Nothing changed at BWV after the studios went from 4 to 5. Except members complaining that 1BR still only slept 4, while studios slept 5, so DVC decided that for points reservations, the 1BR capacity could also be 5, but the guests had to provide the bedding, towels, etc. for the 5th person.

We stayed at BLT not too long ago, it looked rough. The carpets were horrible. Sad, because we stayed there right after opening. It's amazing how in ten years or so, a building can really go downhill.
We stayed at BLT in June. First time at our home resort in roughly 5 years. It was so sad seeing how run down the resort was. Even the pool area was run down.
So sad to see what happened since out first stay in 2009.

In late 2021, HHI did two rooms in Bldg 30: 3012 (1BR) and 3014 (studio). These were test rooms and have since been tweaked a couple of times, mostly trying new materials, designs, backsplashes, etc. The refurb that was to have started in 2020 was pushed to 2021 which was then pushed to this year...but, nothing is going on there this year, either, unless they do begin to take a building or two out of rotation after high season ends (late September).

Thirty new couches were bought earlier this year to replace the worst of them in rooms decided upon by management with input from housekeepers and room inspectors. That accounts for the reports of new couches in some rooms, and that is further evidence that a full-on refurb isn't likely to start anytime soon since Disney wouldn't have paid for new couches if a total makeover was coming.

As for pots and pans, those are frequent turnover items, so if your set looked rough, that simply meant they hadn't been replaced recently and has nothing to do with the refurbishment. Not aware of any coil burner stovetops unless a range had to be swapped out and all they could rustle up was such an ancient beast. ;) Finally, I wouldn't hold my breath for the refurb to replace the existing appliances. Talk was that those would remain in place and simply be swapped out as needed per SOP...unless they plan to go retro and put in those coil burner versions!pirate:

Just left HH yesterday. In building 28. Studio 2814. New sofa, and old carpet, curtains, art, chipped up night stand. Newer microwave. Stained up and chipped tub. I would like a bathroom sink vanity with drawer storage and vanity top storage. (Just saying). Bed was fine. Didn’t use sofa bed. Rained for 2 days and lots of flooded walking paths. At WDW now. Moonlight tonight. Cruise on Saturday.

We stayed at BLT for the first and last time in January, 2010… only 5 months …yes I said 5….after their opening in August, 2009. The 2 bedroom we were assigned was awful after 5 months of use. The furnishings were so poorly made…dining table had all little scratches all over the top of it, the kitchen and bath cabinetry seemed like a Formica finish very dark and had fingerprint smudges/stains all over. Nothing would touch it….I tried wiping with very hot soapy cloth. Carpeting and living room furniture were stained horribly. We could not believe what it looked like after 5 months. After that stay we never had a desire to stay there again.

This is a tough question. I think I come out in stark disagreement with the poll.

AKV - we keep trying to stay here but things keep happening, sounds like we may not get a good stay pre-refurb if it's due in 2023. Oh well.
BCV - had a good stay here last year, but I could see it needing it more than some others on this list.
BLT - our first and last stay was in May of this year. I don't think a refurb will move the needle for us as I don't think condition of the room was a top 3 issue for us. A total retheming might work on us, including bringing over the Incredibles theming from the Contemporary.
BWV - have had very good stays here, including last year. Holding up pretty well considering it's due for a refurb shortly.
Treehouses - never stayed here because the pictures look very dated. I guess this is the top of my list.
VGC - selfishly, I want one here. We stay at VGC multiple times a year and really like it, but it hasn't quite kept up with the hotel side and I'd like a refurb to try to close that gap.
HHI - I don't have the slightest clue.

Bonus: OKW. Despite being recently(ish) hard goods refurbished with acceptable theming, the interior wall texture is still very dated and I immediately know "oh, this building is dated" and unfortunately can't escape it. I think they could also do some functional reimagining inspired by VGF2--take some of the studios, remove a bed, and make separate room categories. The 2nd bed is great for those that need it and a nuisance for those that don't, especially in that oddly proportioned room (they can figure out how to label those 2BR LO differently).

Bonus2: AUL. We stayed here last year in refurbished room...it was fine? It was nice that everything was new, but it was a missed opportunity to make it nicer.

Aulani was only a soft goods refurb. I thought it was nice enough already. Especially after staying in another timeshare over at Hilton Hawaiian Village.
For full refurbs, I think Boardwalk will be next. In line with the hotel refurb which starts early 2023.

Yes, the BWV and BCV studios changed from 4 to 5 after their last refurb, when the single Murphy was added under the TV.
BRV studios went from 4-5 too. It was a surprise that when they refurbished SSR they did not add the 5th bed in the studios. The room size and layouts for BWV,BCV and BRV are almost identical, they are all within a square foot or two.
