Next Food Network Star

I think they try to keep one obviously weak contestant until the very end, so that when America votes (they do that on this show, right?) then the "good" person (the one the network wants to win) most likely will.
Ah, they did that once - season 2, I think. Didn't work so well; that's the winner who opted to not continue with her show even though Food Network made her an offer. I got her name wrong earlier, but Amy ultimately won; she wasn't even a finalist originally, but one of the finalists had lied about several things in his background - so they booted him and brought her back.

America doesn't vote.

I don't think Aria is actually fakey, but rather I think her general (authentic) demeanor is such that it comes across as fake on camera. I know a lot of people like that - people that come across even in person as fake, even though they're just being themselves.

I know but she is still hard to watch. I think as a guest on a show she would be refreshing but not every week. I doubt that she could sustain her own show.

Yeah, which is why I think so many of us were so positive for her in the beginning and now aren't so much in her corner. However, we shouldn't underestimate the value and contribution of a good producer. I suspect that many of the popular on-air personalities had their personae greatly enhanced by their first year or two of working with a professional television producer. I don't know if one could remediate Aria, but I think when we look at the remaining contestants from the perspective of the network (who's making the decision, in the end), and therefore as raw material to be shaped and crafted by producers (and marketing, for that matter), I think we come up with a different ranking than if we just look at how well we feel each personal is doing, on the surface, in the competition.

I wonder how this show is classified. If it is a "game show" like Survivor, then there are very strict rules that have to be complied with. However, if, instead, it is classified simply as a documentary of an audition process, then they have a lot more leeway to choose the best person for the job, rather than the person who perhaps performed the "stunts" best.

Is anyone else bothered by Tom's hand and arm movements when he is presenting. I find it very distracting.

I was surprised Brad went home. I thought it would be Aria this week.

Aaron (Big Daddy) did, absolutely. He was SO frantic in his first season, he was almost painful to watch. No, I take that back. A few times, I had a headache by the end of the shows - it was painful to watch. He's much more professional and so much easier and more enjoyable to watch now. If only I didn't have to suffer through those Neelys first :umbrella:

I switch of Neelys just cant stand them! Tom may end up with a Guy like show, Aarati will get a show win or no win. Herb I just dont see him in a show I would watch. Aria I dont want her to get anything, she changed from a helpful lets do our best competitor to a shrewd win at any cost contestant.

I always assumed the latter since the "winner" is becoming an employee of FN not really winning a prize from them. Of course thats just a guess, I have no real knowledge :)

I don't like Tom. I think he is a big teddy bear kind of guy but he just looks too slobbish,(thats not really the word I'm looking for) for me to watch him on a cooking show. I thought Brad was a cutie but he became like a robot in front of the camera so I figured he wouldn't make it to the finals. I am hoping Aarti wins, or gets her own show. I would love to learn quick and easy tips to cook Indian food.

Though the same is really true of American Idol, and I know that they have additional requirements that they need to comply with. However, those additional requirements might stem from the fact that viewers are voting, and so that may invoke a reasonable requirement that the results of the competition do indeed reflect the votes cast by viewers.

Of course, even with American Idol, there is nothing stopping 19 Management signing whichever of the runners-up they wish.

Disheveled.

You're laughing but that's brilliant! :)

It's not bad... they won't name it anything "Big", because Aaron McCargo's show is "Big Daddy's House". Since the shows will likely both air Sunday afternoons, it would be too confusing - assuming Tom wins, of course :)

Wait is Aarti still there? I am guessing she'll win (*if she isn't gone yet) as her recipes are different than anything on there right now. I would watch her show.I think I would learn something.

And who is that guy on the food network that does all those strange shows? He was a past contestant on Next food network star but I think he was a loser- yet he has more shows than the winner? Adam something?

Adam Gertler. In addition to the currently-running "Kid in a Candy Store" on Food Network, he's also hosting "After Party" on the new Cooking Channel. He, and Kelsey Nixon (another contestant from season 4) and Sunny Anderson host a show where they interview the eliminated TNFNS contestant, immediately after the episode airs.

What was the name of Tom's show on his station last night? Was it Big something? I don't think he will win, I think they already want Aarti because there are no shows featuring Indian cuisine. There are a ton of shows that basically are the same, she would definitely bring something different.

When Melissa was a contestant wasn't her show supposed to be something different than it actually is now?

Even American Idol isn't so clear cut. I remember a few seasons ago there was a lot of discussion because the official rules/contracts said something to the effect that "advancement" in the competition was at the discretion of the judges and producers. So, in essence, they could fudge the numbers and move people along that they wanted.

The ethical question is whether or not they would (or ever did) do that, or if it's just in place to protect the brand. :confused3

Actually, I think they invoked that a couple of times, already. They don't "fudge" the numbers, though. They just disqualify someone, and swap someone else into their spot.

Please don't let them allow Aarti to name her show Aarti Paarti or however she wants to spell it.

How about adding an H after the P in party (Aarti Phaarti). The Indian food is spicy you know.;)

:lmao::rotfl2:

Everytime she says Aarti's Party I literally get physically ILL... and I'm sure that marketing woman does, too...:scared:

No way she'll be able to name it that.. especially's since Paula already has a "party" -- AND it's soooo stupid!

I was kind of sort of surprised Brad left. I thought it was Herb's turn. Neither, I believe, have a chance, I think it's up to Aarti to win and Aria to lose.
