Next Food Network Star ~ Official 2009 Summer Thread

I'm glad that Teddy didn't go home. He's really the only guy left that I like.

I know what you mean but I can't help but really like her food.

I'm happy Eddie's gone I wanted to go through the TV and slap him for the way he was treating Melissa. He's a class A jerk, good riddance.

I know! And when he said that he got the salad from a Paula Deen cookbook, I was in horror!

just my 2 cents, but I'd say he's givng the straight forward/blunt advice that these people should have been getting the first two episodes.... rather than giving the 'painful' grin and waiting until they've left the room to tear them a new one, he's giving it to them to their face so they can either make the necessary changes or be on the next plane home.

Yep. I thought he did a great job with them. I think Katie is a great example. The way he was like, "Stop." Gave her some advice and then she turned around and did wonderfully. She just needed a little direction and you can't tell me that Bobby Flay or Giada didn't need a little direction when they started.

I am FLOORED by the irony of this whole thing. Debbie doesn't take ownership of the dessert from the first episode, she lied, blah, blah, blah.

Tonight, Teddy does the same exact thing and DEBBIE of all people calls him out on it.

Someone needs to share that bit of info with her. She has no room to question anyone's integrity. Actually, she needs to shut her mouth because I want to slap her.

Hah. I said the exact same thing. Oh. My. Goodness. She was harping on it all night. I can't stand her! Teddy annoyed me a bit. If he wanted to take ownership, he should have manned up and taken it from the start, but still my goodness Debbie!

I'm glad to see Eddie go, it was like elminating 2 people tonight, him & his eyebrows. Sorry, it's mean, I know it, but they were so distracting. And he was such a it'llgeteditedsoican'treallysayit to Melissa all night, ugh!

I still like Jamika. She needs to get control of her blinking when she's nervous though :rotfl: Katie I think did better tonight. I felt badly for Melissa and thought she composed herself very nicely, so I have to give her props. Jeffery, oh Jeffery, if you don't win this, I'll be shocked. And Michael? Well, I thought he was a bit over the top before and I didn't really like him, but I have to say, he's wearing on me. He had me cracking up the entire episode and I felt so bad for him, he was really having a rough day.

Eddie's out because of that Paula Deen recipe. For obnoxiousness it was a tie between Eddie and Teddy but when you want to be the new Food Network star you don't steal recipies from the old Food Network stars.

My wife and I thought, for a moment, they were going to send both Eddy and Teddy home.

That's what my husband thought too. I wasn't sure if they would. He said they should have sent both home and then not send anyone home next week - but not to let the contestants know that there wouldn't be an elimination next week.

On another note, I thought Tyler Florence seemed a bit harsh, almost rude to the contestants. Anyone else think that? (I haven't read other posts yet, so maybe that was already mentioned.)

Jeffrey fan here!!!!! I think both guys could have went last night...I don't care for either one of them.

I will be surprised if Jeffrey isn't in the finale.

And seriously...is it just me or does Bobby Flay really NOT pull off the suit. It just isn't a good look for him...LOL!!!!

Then I suppose you're not going to be watching the 6/23 edition of Top Chef Masters? ;)

I always watch but half the time I think I wouldn't eat that. I'm not a frois gras kinda gal. ;) Now chocolate cake, marinated steak , souffles I'm there :thumbsup2

I love Ina Garten so it was a real treat to see them in her home.

DH and I STILL cannot stand Debbie and feel like she is the REAL snake in the grass. We felt like the meatloaf WAS Teddy's dish and that he spent all his time making it and then only had time to slap together the crappy dessert dish that Debbie ogred him into using instant pudding in. She is a sly weasel and we can't wait for her to go home. There really isn't anything likable about her at all.

I know I thought the same thing. He looks stiff and uncomfortable and the suits look really new like never been worn. Eddie was doomed when I heard Bobby say he need to be more chivalrous in the kitchen, that he watched his behavoir with Melissa and didn't like it. That coupled with the fact he didn't think Eddie had "the chops" sunk him.

I thought they both deserved to go home but Teddy provides drama and drama = ratings. I agree that no one is stepping out front and grabbing this competition. I still think its going to be Jeffrey.

So did DH and I!

I'm predicting Jeffery to win. (I think Jamika is really good too, but they kind of already have her niche filled.)

I thought I was going to like Debbie from the initial descriptions, but dropped her from my list right away after the issues in the first episode!

I don't especially like Melissa, and I don't think Katie can really pull it off.

If anyone has a Sur La Table in their area, I just got an e-mail about taking a cooking lesson with one of the Next Food Network Star finalists. It has several different locations listed, with a different finalist at each.

Yeah, I felt the same way.

Yes, Debbie really REALLY needs to go. Now.

Eddie needs to do something with those eyebrows.

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Awww Tyler, why ya being so cranky?? LOL. I ♥ him, but he's being kinda snotty.

I think he was just not fooling around. He was a little short but the feedback was constructive and before it was too late to apply it.

I did not understand why he was so nasty to her. He's not that good to be looking down at another contestant. It seemed that he just thought a home cook should not be in the same competition that he was in :sad2:

I know! And when he said that he got the salad from a Paula Deen cookbook, I was in horror!

I recognized the salad when he described it, I saw that PD episode. I figured he was going home, pulling recipes from other chefs is not a good beginning :sad2:

:lmao::lmao:
***************

I like Michael, he is too funny!

I don't like Debbie either but she did make the glaze, the dish was her idea. He knew he was making dessert but putzed around making the meat mixture for the loaf. I did not get it, that was the collaboration dish, he really needed to step up his dessert, it was his dish. I know that they were using the groceries and menus that had already been purchased but for goodness sake...someone had already gone home for storebough trifle and I think that it was Debbies trifle that time too. Did he not learn that storebought ingredients tossed together is not going to win this? It is not "Semi- homemade and Not Doctored Up Enough To Hide That Nothing Is From Scratch" that they are competing for.

I think Jeffery is going to win, he is calm and collected int eh kitchen and he can cook. Michael is a good cook too, I think he would be hysterical.

Agreed, they are our two faves!
