Next Epcot Country???

I vote Australia because it is a continent not represented and has plenty to offer. I would guess most of us will never make it there so I would love to visit at EPCOT. (Maybe alittle of New Zealand with it)

While there are plenty in Europe I would love to see, like Greece, Europe is already well represented. Russia is a great idea, BUT, it is so diverse and divided now, I don't know that a single pavillion could truly represent all. I love *Fantasia*s idea of a South Pacific theme, or maybe her Caribbean idea would be better so as to not conflict with the Polynesian Luau. They could show alittle of each island and the different cultures that influenced them. I think if we were to go to S America the most interesting and mysterious to me would be Peru. I understand the draw of Egypt but we have Morocco & the Mexican pyramid. India pretty much has it's own section at AK.

Regardless there is space to add a new one, and the outpost area needs to go.

My first vote would go to Russia. It's an enormous country with a very interesting history and rich cultures in art, music, and dance. I seriously doubt that it will ever come to the WS though.

I hoped so, but I was trying to be nice :)

I guess you can insert my head where the monitor is... :badpc:

Old timer, what part of Mass are you from?

i vote for australia at the world showcase, think this would be cool to expand, the outpost is not enough. i also like the idea of egypt & pyramids or another mideast-african country like turkey (trojans) or kenya (tribes) for diversity or south america's brazil & amazon river would be cool.

however like one of the other dis ers said, the said country hosts its wdw location. i wonder when & what country disney will add next!

There had been plans for either Switzerland or Japan, with either the Matterhorn or Mt. Fuji coasters. However, with Expedition: Everest going in at AK I don't think we'll ever see them (not that those plans weren't dead years ago). I would also imagine that Australia might be better suited for AK, same with something like The Amazon region of Brazil. Israel could be a political hot potato.

I don't think there's anything in the pipe right now, although there's been a little talk about Spain. Some South Korean businessmen wanted to build a pavilion, but I believe Disney spokespeople said it was too much like China and Japan. I'm sure Koreans would be rankled to hear that! You need a country with affluent enough corporations to put up the cash - hence the current focus on Europe.

I liked the south pacific suggestion. My vote goes to Tahiti. Or any south pacific island.

...like the south pacific island Vanautu?...

I'd love to see Denmark, I've got a friend that lives there, and from what she's told me, it's a beautiful country!

Also, I (fuzzy-ly) remember that I read some place that Russia was sugg'ed when Ecpot was being planed/dreamed by Walt and he niked it . The whole communist country thing... Please feel free to correct me if I totally mis remember that! ...)

A couple of years ago the National Building Museum in Washington, DC had a fascinating exhibt regarding the architecture of Disney. Among the artifacts were drawings and a scale model of what was to be a Soviet Union pavilion at World Showcase. It was to feature a replica of Red Square's St. Basil Cathedral. Unfortunately the plan never came to fruition due to Cold War politics. Now that the Cold War is over, perhaps Russia can take its place among the Epcot nations.

Shortly after EPCOT opened they had a sign in the World Showcase telling that India and Israel were to open pavilions but it never came to pass

I didn't think countries of any kind were part of Walt's original idea. I thought it was a City of the Future.

The Russian plans were also part of the Disney Decade. Eisner said he was going to talk them about it on a trip there in the early 90s (along with copyright protection). Obviously, he wasn't able to convince them to build one.

I may be wrong, but I thought WS WAS Walt's idea. The whole "if we learn about each other, we won't kill each other" idea. Plus, I think he knew the "future" would be a global community.

I think India Hands down. They have such excellent foods and imagine how great the gift shops would be. They could sell saris and all kinds of neat stuff. And they could move their henna artist over to that pavillion because she is from India anyway not Morocco.
