Newsletter 4/16/07

Aww, if indeed this is the case that Slinky gets his wish to meet Yavn, I hope that Disney will try to do the same for other ill kids that play, even though they may not have 100s writing on their behalf.

I think that Disney is doing an amazing job granting wishes already.

"Over the past 25 years, Disney has continued to support the Make-A-Wish cause, contributing more than $10 million in cash and in-kind donations on an annual basis. With more than 6,000 wishes granted each year including visits to the Disney Parks, Disney Cruises, meeting Disney Characters and visiting TV and movie sets, including “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, Disney-themed wishes continue to be the most popular requests."

Agree 100%. Disney does TONS with Make-a-Wish. In fact, at the local Make-a-Wish there are staff whose 100% job responsibility is to do nothing but arrange hotel and air for DLR Make a Wish trips.

I am very happy that (it would appear) that Slinky is going to soon be a recipient of 1 of this wishes. All I was saying above is that I hope special requests involved in such wishes happen even for others who don't have a wonderful group like the DIS community write in for them. Not eveyone has the power of a group to campaign for their wish.

Again, very happy for Slinkyman!

Oh wow!

The very last line was the best in the entire newsletter...

When he said at the beginning that he'd be traveling to the world on a trip next week- I couldn't help but think that Slink had to be at least part of the reason and then he talked about a special players wish!

SO excited for you all! Have a wonderful trip- and we will all be anxiously awaiting the trip reports

That was exactly what I was thinking the moment I read that last part!
I know Slink (and well, Bug and the rest of the family) will enjoy the trip
and the cruise!

As for other kids having the same opportunity...

If the kids are granted wishes from the Make-A-Wish program, and they
specifically wanted to meet Yavn, I don't think they would need a letter
writing campaign. I'd think the Make-A-Wish folks could pull some strings.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. Wishes are something Slink and I have learned a lot about these past 10 months. Of course our biggest wish would have been him never getting cancer. We are very fortunate to have a wonderful MAW organization where we are, and because of them, my family, along with Smalld and his mother are taking a cruise of a lifetime.

Slink had another wish one he didn't ask MAW for... and that was to meet yavn. So it all began with a letter. I had to thank the people who helped get us through a very difficult time in our lives. At the top of the list were the creators and staff of VMK-the game that helped ink get through his darkest days. So i sat down 1 night at 1 am, let my mind clear of all thoughts and wrote a letter to Yavn that came straight from my heart. 2 hours later and many tears i sat looking at a letter I could not believe i had written. It truley came from somewhere within me. Now the next step was to get the courage to e-mail it. I do not normally do things like this-it is a big step for me. But by this point Ink's cancer had taught me that life is to short to not take a chance. How would he know how i felt if I did not send it so off it went directly to him. I was not expecting a reply as I was simply thanking them for all they do. I was truely surprised when I heard back from Yavn.

This is a special Wish Yavn and the people at disney are granting , not a MAW wish although, I am sure if some ill child would request this as their wish, MAW would do everything they could to make it happen.

We are looking forward to our great adventure starting and to doing a exciting trip report that will share all the details that made this happen.

Thank you to everyone here and at VMK Headquaters. As Antjewel quoted to me and I truley believe it now:

"When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
will come to you'

With Disney anything is possible,

See you all when we get back,

Bug

This is such a wonderful thing they are doing for Slink.

And lots of great news in the new newsletter too! Nice to see them handing out more infernos!

I bet it's a thrill for the staff to be able to become the VMK version of the YOMD Dream team! How fun it must be to walk around and randomly make a players day!

Thanks for confirming this.
Slinky was who I was thinking when I read that last sentence last night. But, I didn't really want to say anything just in case it wasn't him.
I think this is a wonderful thing that Yavn is doing for this special young man.

I truly hope you all have a wonderful trip.

I will have some ride pieces for you when you get back. :)

I hope you have a great trip! It's so great that Slink gets to meet Yavn, when we didn't hear anything back from Contact Us I was afraid that he wasn't going to get to meet him but i'm glad it all worked out! :)

Bug, please know that I, too, will get extra ride pieces from the ride-a-thon for you! :yay: We've got you covered!

I'm sure it's Slink!! Have fun on your trip, and say hi to Yavn for me! LOL

PS:This is just evidence of the good a bunch of people can do, when one of them needs it most.

Oh I'm so excited for you guys! I was praying when I saw that line in the newsletter!!!! Coupled with the thing about 50 infernos being given away, I almost thought the whole thing was too good to be true. That is so sweet of Yavn. Take lots of pictures if you can :)

I'm not sure I would think pictures of meeting Yavn would be a good idea.
Since Yavn gets mobbed by groupies in VMK, I think it would be a thousand
times worse if his photo got published here. He probably would get mobbed
anytime he went to the parks.

I would, however, like to see pics of them enjoying their trip. :goodvibes

I'm so pleased that Slink has got his wish, I can't wait to hear all about it.

Thank you so much for posting Bug, you are a truely amazing mom

Hmm, good point. I don't think I want to know what Yavn really looks like. But I really, really want to hear all about it!!
