Newsflash! Your dog doesn't have to go EVERYWHERE with you!

That is not the point whatsoever. My dog is friendly. The most friendliest dog can get agitated when children continually or adults continually come over to pet it. Especially smaller dogs. Children are not always gentle either. I had a kid continuously follow us around a park chasing us, yelling this strange name he thought the dog's name was, we were almost running from this kid, it is humorous now but wasn't at the time. Bringing my dog out is not an open invitation to have your children run over to it. I don't mind one or two kids, but after that it can agitate my dog. Some dogs are fine with 20 kids running over to it, but many are not and all kids should be taught that.

I wasn't disagreeing with you. People SHOULDN'T assume they can approach your dog. Your dog might however be considered "an attractive nuisance" and if he gets agitated and bites someone, you will most likely be found at fault.

While it is a cute thing to say and I can appreciate the affection for the animal...legally, it is not your son no matter how many times you insist that it is. It is a domesticated pet.

But do find it strange when folks use their doggie as a substitute for a child. My opinion--but it is weird to dress out your doggie and treat it like a baby and I cannot believe how much that industry makes.

I have cats--love them to pieces, but my cat would not have it if I insisted on putting on a cute outfit. And yes--i do baby talk them. But I also realize they are not my daughters and son--even when I did not have children.

Totally agree with you!!!

To me a dog is a pet, it's not his child (he keeps calling the pet his son). .

That is sick!! A dog/cat is no where near a child---its an animal...some people are just nuts.

That is not reason for me to not bring her out with me. I know people that have pets and keep them outside all the time, don't even allow them in the house. I find that cruel personally. If you don't want to bring your dog out, don't, some people do.

Why does it look like we quoted ourselves??

We have 4 dogs that we love however, they are our pets not our children. They have good food, good shelter, and plenty of attention but they stay home. I would think that boards of health have regulations against animals around food. I know it's different in Europe where dogs are allowed in restaurants. It's different in the Far East too where they eat dogs in restaurants. I live in the US where our rules are different.

Heelies are not children and are banned in many places.

Kids crawling over dangerous chemicals? How would a dog be better suited for that?

As for the hot tubs--if it isn't banned by the establishment--again, why do you care?

All the rest of us are talking about is places where a dog is not allowed to be.

Arguing why you think children should be banned is without merit.

Read my post again, it was about MY establishment, MY experiences. I have never had an issue with a pet in any of my stores. I have had tons of damage from children, near accidents from unsupervised children. Hot tubs, 2 fold 1. it is a dangerous place for a child for many reasons 2nd, it is already a petri dish that children do not need to add too.
My post had merit , if you had read all the others it does trake issue with topics already pointed out.
Again I say to each their own, I really do not care if you bring your child or your dog ( just do not sue me when they get hurt due to your stupidity) ( and that is a universal you). My point is that it really goes both ways.

There are regulations around food. They are not allowed inside restaurants or in grocery stores ever in the US, so I don't get the outrage here on this board, ever.

I haven't read all of the posts on this topic but pets and their hair around food anywhere is just eew. Dogs and cats have more hair than humans and they shed.

Don't let them bother you. I find most people that love pets are kind, gentle, beautiful people. I myself love my little dog like she were my child also. :lovestruc

But you can love a pet and still not consider it your child? Many on this thread have stated they are pet owners or like pets.

I love my cats but they are just that, cats. Not my children. They get food, water, shelter, toys and lots of love and attention. I have not once though about calling them my kids.

I've tried to teach my children to never approach any animal that isn't ours without permission. I've also tought them to never ask "does your ____ bite". We learn that anything with teeth can bite and to never assume even with the most docile animal...b/c as you say, they can get agitated.

So far it has worked out very well.

Why does this bother people so much? It's not a big deal. They call their pets their kids, big whoop.

I'm so confused why it bothers you and other people so much. How does my affection for my dog affect you, really?

I don't understand this either?? :confused3

: My dog is my child. Period.

I have 4 kids - 3 boys and 1 girl.

Two of the boys complain about anything, eat me out of house and home, expect expensive Christmas/Birthday Presents, whine if we're out of their favorite (insert food/drink here), are generally pleasant, but can get hostile if they don't get their way and like this *snap* and talk back, "need" the latest (shoes, clothes, video games, etc). I could on and on.

The other boy and girl, eat what I give them, come inside when I ask, will go anywhere with me, don't talk back, console me when I'm sick, and don't cost me a dime in 'wants not needs'.

As you can see, it's quite easy to love your dogs just as much. ;)

You need serious help.

Not nice, or cool. :sad2:

I love my dog as someone else would love their child. Get it now?

I get it. :thumbsup2

There were posts stating people had their dogs in the grocery store.

Not one person on this thread - not one - stated they put their dogs in grocery carts. Not one.

That was the OP. She stated she saw that and asked how people felt about this.

No one said they did this.

The issue would be when someone thinks of their pet as their child then starts to think the pet has the same rights as a child.

You are right--it probably wasn't nice or cool.

But that poster took a malicious turn and I was not having any of it. To bring up same sex couples was unnecessary and I never claimed nor implied that she was "wrong" to call her pet a child. I simply made a comment that legally, it isn't. She decided to go on a rampage b/c how dare anyone make such a statement, right.

That was not nice or cool either. But folks will pat her on the back and see where she was coming from, but she gets no grief for her nasty comments.

To bring up same sex couples--I'm not even going there.
