I was at the grocery store today and saw one of the most disgusting things I have seen there. A couple (who weren't terribly clean themselves) had 2 small dogs (mixed breeds I believe, pug sized) IN THE SHOPPING CART- there was a blanket in the cart that was so nasty I wouldn't even let my dog sit on it. Now I have seen folks bring in little dogs before- one lady in particular who comes to the store in her power chair has her little dog on her lap and I've seen others with them on leashes..... but these were riding in the cart where you put groceries.:scared1: Only service dogs are allowed in the store, but nobody has to prove their dog is a service dog or what kind of service it provides (it's actually illegal to ask). It seems to be common now that people with smaller dogs think their dogs should be allowed everywhere- I just don't get it.

Me either! I'm amazed with the places people take their dogs. I work at a law firm and we always have people coming in bringing their dogs :confused3. Unless we're going for a walk somewhere outside, camping, or going through a drive-thru, my dog is just fine at home! She's well behaved and housebroken but not everyone loves dogs (some are extremely afraid even from a distance!) and people are allergic.

Yep, its a big problem over here too. A dog is the new accessory.

I couldn't agree with you more!!! On more than 1 occasion I have had to tell a friend that you must keep your dog at home. I know you love your dog but I don't have to and it freaks out my very skidish cat!!! Then several years later her daughter was on her way to her mom's, I live in the middle, and she calls me to tell me what time they will get here and mentions that she has her dog with her!:scared1: I mean really!!! I told her that she and her husband and infant were more than welcome but I have a strict no dog rule. They spent the night somewhere else.

Just saw it this weekend at the grocery store too. My little one was crying and DS6 was like "there are dogs in the store". I didn't believe him until we came up to the check out and there is a couple with two dogs heading to the register.

I guess since they are "like my kids" people aren't supposed to be bothered by it? :confused3

Have to agree with you on this one.. I don't have anything against dogs - have had them myself - and I'm madly in love with my adult DD's dog.. BUT - there is a time and a place for them and they aren't going to die of a broken heart if you don't take them grocery shopping with you; to the drug store; to the neighbor's house (who may not even like dogs); to the parks and let them run free; to Little League games; etc..

DD had to take my car back down to their place this past Sunday because her DH was going to take it to be inspected for me last night.. First words out of my mouth after I handed her the keys were: "NO dog in the car!!" Why? Because over the years I have become very sensitive to the odor of dogs - even the cleanest ones.. The vomit sits right there at the top of my throat.. And of course I don't want dog hair all over the inside of my car either.. DD wasn't upset - she knows how I feel and how it affects me - but I'm sure that many other dog lovers would have been extremely upset with me and given me "what for"..

Love the doggies, but you can leave them home once in awhile..:goodvibes

Awww...see I wish I lived in a more 'dog friendly community'. I would love to bring my pooches everywhere, but at 80 pounds, it's not very realistic

you'd really want to take them clothes shopping with you? what would you do with them if you had to try something on?

One of our amusement parks is dog friendly. But do your dogs really have to go on the rides with you? :confused3

I love dogs, but there are lots of reasons they shouldn't be in the grocery store. Especially with their dog butts in the grocery cart! :headache:

I really do not think they are any where near the leaking packages of raw meat placed in carts. :confused3

I have a well behaved small dog and I do take him place with me. However, I only take him to businesses that allow dogs which more and more are becoming dog friendly. He can go to Lowes, all the petstores, and several restuarants with outdoor seating like starbucks. I also take him to outdoor events like festivals and city events at local parks. But he is always on the leash. I feel that if it is outdoors or I know the business is ok with dogs present. there should be no reason why he shouldn't be allowed to be there. He is a part of our family and he goes places with us.

I usually just roll my eyes at "pocket" dogs- what got me about this specifically was THE DOG BUTT IN THE SHOPPING CART. And the blanket they had in that cart was REVOLTING. :scared:

My emotional support Saint Bernard goes with me everywhere. Without him I may have panic attacks and need to call 911. I'm sorry if this bothers you.

I hate it as well and while I recognize that there are therapy dogs--

Not everyone who does this has a therapy dog--especially if it is 1 person with 2 dogs.

IF the establishment is not pet friendly (meaning they have a sign posted on their door)--it is not pet friendly!

In some other countries dogs do go everywhere, restaurants, stores, work, public transportation and it's not a big deal. They are well trained and behaved and so quiet you wouldn't know they were there if you weren't looking right at them. Dogs don't bother me unless they are jumping on me, so if they are good I'm fine with them anywhere.

I absolutely love dogs and think it's ridiculous. I worked at Nordstrom one summer in college and had a woman bring in her small dog-- on a leash, not even holding it. It pooped in my department and I hadn't realized. She asked me for a piece of tissue paper, picked up the poop, and then threw it out in my cash register bin. Disgusting!

my DMIL got angry once because a store told her that she wasn't allowed to bring her dog in, i tried explaining to her some reasons why but she didn't want to listen and insisted that she should be allowed to bring the dog everywhere with her....

:lmao:This cracked me up! Does he carry brandy in a keg tied around his neck?

It's common for dogs to go into stores in my neighborhood, no one cares. My 115 lb lab/rottie mix went to Bloomingdale's and Barnes and Nobles all the time with me and dh before she died in July, she never had an accident even once. Oh well, you can't please everyone.
