NEWS: Upcoming Price increases for Polynesian and Aulani?

Disney prices always go up and will continue to do so and DVC prices go up overtime regardless of price increases at the parks.

No reason to suggest the previous historical trend should change.

I realize this is taken a bit out of context, but I would note that this view is remarkably similar to what everyone said about house prices prior to the 2008 crash. DVC prices have generally gone up over time, but past performance is not necessarily indicative of future performance.

That said, I fully agree with your statement that anyone who already owns DVC should indeed be happy for as long as they continue to go up!

Sources continue to confirm the upcoming price increases noted in post #1.

The link to the new pricing promotion in the March/April Member Insider had that info:

"Act soon! The price increases from $168 to $171 per Vacation Point at these Disney Vacation Club Resorts on June 1, 2016—and this offer ends October 10, 2016." For "these" resorts they had been sharing the promotions for PVB and Aulani.

Thanks. I completetly missed that Mar 31 confirmation of the increase that ******* reported back on March 8. The June 1 date is for member add-ons, but the increase date for new members is May 4.

Maybe they are desperate for sales and are trying the "buy now before it is too late!" tactic to get people that are on the fence to commit or they re coming upon the busy summer season where people are interested in buying while on their magical vacation.

Wow, that's nearly 3 times and a half more than what I paid my SSR resale contract a few years back. At these prices I think I wouldn't have even looked at DVC.

Wow I never thought one of my best finical decisions would be buying a time share. Oct 2010 SSR 57 dollars a point holy moly 171????? I am sick to my stomach thinking people are paying that. when will the prices actually stop people from buying. For 42000ish for 250 points rack rate at riverside does not sound so bad!!!!!

I think it's crazy how much DVC keeps going up in the last few years. There are other premium TS out there and IMO DVC is outpacing them price wise and more than I think the DVC difference now warrants. I own and visit other high-end TS and I would easily put many of them up against my beloved DVC resorts. And when I do the math, it would cost me MORE to have the equivalent if I bought similar with DVC....

I paid a heck of a lot less in the early 90's for my DVC membership as well, but in fairness that is all relative. I wasn't paying over $4 per half gallon of organic milk then, nor was I paying NEARLY as much for housing and cars. Everything has gone up. I just think DVC is getting a bit ahead of themselves now in that respect.

DVC commands a premium for their location and extra services mainly. Just like the deluxe resorts, being on a monorail or walking distance to Epcot really allows them to charge a lot more. Or even just having the bus service and magicbands and DME. No other place really has that.

We have 360 Aulani points, among many others, and we bought for cash at opening price, in the area of 130 I think. Obviously a good deal now. Plus we were grandfathered into the lower maintenance fees. The fact that they are still selling Aulani at this point says they can't sell them as easily as they thought. But I don't think raising the price is going to help. We love it there and go every year, even though we come from Chicago. The Asian market, though, which I'm sure Disney really wanted to focus on doesn't seem to be as easy to get as they thught. Every time we have gone there are many Asians but most of them seem to be paying cash for rooms. The one bedroom villa we get every year would cost us a minimum of 1000 a night. Unless you want to go from June thru August or at Christmas or spring break, you can easily get rooms almost anytime so we can easily wait until seven months out and use a combination of Aulani and other points for our 50 point a night villa for a minimum of 10 nights.

Love, LOVE your home resort cedricandsophie! I've used my own points a few times now to stay at Aulani flying from FL. Like you, I would NOT be able to afford to pay cash. Like any high end Hawaiian beachfront resort, the prices are HIGH, REALLY high.

I think the biggest blow to Aulani sales was the timing of Aulani's opening being so close to the horrific natural disasters in Japan. The Japanese particularly love travel to Hawaii and I think DVD was counting on a lot more sales from that market that haven't quite materialized. One other reason this resort is not even close to a sell out is that it is a very large resort. The huge resorts take longer to sell simply because of the numbers. And most DVC guides here in FL do not push Aulani in sales unless they are a member like me that loves to travel to the Pacific because most folks that don't live near the west coast of the mainland are not frequent Hawaii visitors. JMHO...

I'm more happy that the regular hotel room prices at the properties we stay at are going up faster than annual dues. It would be tough to afford staying at VGC or Aulani at hotel room rates. Increasing point costs do not make me happy since it makes it harder to add on.

OMG. I JUST NOW said that to my dh. Glad we have now and let them keep going up. My dh said we paid $67 (220 SSR) and $72 (200 SSR) per point reale back when resale and direct were all thhe same. We have stayed a couple of times at GFVs in two bedrooms and other resorts in two bedrooms and GV -and Treehouses at SSR. I also stayed at the Poly last August just to try it. I always think how lucky we are to be staying at the sme place where others have purchased a premium for their points to stay in the same accommodations.
