I have a feeling that I'll be 100% in agreement with your review in about 12-14 hours...

And I'll have my 8 year old there next to me with his stumpy little legs hanging off the chair...

That is worth more than i could ever put a value on...because it will be exactly like me seeing Jedi the first time with his grandparents that he will never meet.

If you want to believe that there's "magic" in both Disney and Star Wars...then that's it.
hey are you excited about Star Wars i cant tell based on your posts? LOL

Well, we are seven movies into the series. Anyone that doesn't anticipate some similarity has unrealistic expectations.

I haven't seen it yet but I get the impression it's more than just the common Hero's Journey element or the fact there are X-Wings. I think there's some deliberate echoing of the first Star Wars here. Some will like that, others will want something different.

Hey! They haven't made us lock days months out yet...

DONT FALL INTO THE TRAP!!! ;)

I do it because I use Touring Plans.com. Plus, the day I switched to is an AM EMH day at AK, and we want to get in and out and back to the pool. I also had to pick a day to do the Star Wars fireworks dessert party. So, yeah, I kind of had to figure it all out months in advance. I did it this way before FP+, so it's not a big deal to me. I am a bit of an anal planner though.

less than 12 hours... just saying'. :)

Haven't seen the over seas results yet... but I don't think its everywhere in Europe. I'm sure we'll start hearing initial numbers tomorrow. My thought was initially it would fall short because people wouldn't go... but as we've gotten closer people who were "waiting" at work have gotten excited and bought tickets... so...

I predict opening weekend to be $210-218 Million... based on nothing more than a lottery guess. Because I have no clue how this stuff works. :D

that sounds about right
i think it would push 300 million if it were a summer release
still thinking 2 billion is very realistic

Its like you are in my head. I've been trying to explain this to so many people. What it is and why we are so emotionally attached to a movie.
1977 I was just a little guy, not even 2 years old my dad said I was there watching with wide eyed amazement, no real memory for me.
1980 - almost 5 and in the theater with my star wars toys, again, not really remembering.
1983 - a few months till my 8th birthday and yeah.. i remember all of it! the whole thing, the rainy day at a theater on the boardwalk in Wildwood NJ.

Fast forward through all the theatrical rereleases, the special editions, the vcr tapes braking, the laser discs, the dvds, blurays, and now digital versions.
I can't even give an honest guess as to how many times I've watched these movies.

I'm an odd ball that doesn't hate the prequels, but they were not on my "preTFA watch list" this week. I take them for what they were, an attempt to fill in the backstory. None of us will ever be happy with anyones attempt at that, Episode 4-6 were done, and we all had our own visions and thoughts as to what happened in 1-3. But enough on those... But just about the same hysteria was around before the Phantom Mennace.

Now here I'm am 40 years old, Living 900 miles away from my father that took me to see these marvals all those years ago.
Going to see Episode 7 with my wife, whom can't understand my love for a movie, but wanted to go tonight to watch this with me.
830 tonight, Oviedo mall movie theater to see this movie that has been 32 years in the waiting. We debated the whole Disney Springs then MGM party thing, but figured that was just a little too much money to spend during the holidays. But i've even taken the day off tomorrow so if I love the movie I'll be able to see it maybe 2 more times while my wife is at work tomorrow, and then we can go see Symphany in the stars tomorrow night.

So after all this rambling I basically could've summed it all up by saying -- I'm a Star Wars fan, if i'm wearing shorts you can see my storm trooper tattoo on my leg, if you see me on the road you'll see my car with star wars decals on both drive side doors (i've been asked if I work for Star Wars lol).
My closet is 75% star wars shirts. Tonight is going to be amazing. and I know tears will flow... and I'm more then okay with that.
Skipping reviews and basically avoiding Face Book has been hard, but I want this to be the Emipire Strikes back again (I'm your father).
Tonight is going to feel like Christmas morning!

To all the FANS like me, and even casual observers, To all the new fans.... here's to hoping this movie isn't a dud!

You're freaking me out, dude...

But I would classify myself as a "moderate zealot"...

As in I know everything about it...never stopped caring/following. Was slapped in the face with a wet fish in 1999, 2002, and 2005 (that was crap too...the fall of one of the top 5 Villians in history with no depth)...

But I can criticize and be honest and I don't wear uniforms and go to conventions. Occasionally I do something else too...

There are many like me.

It's hard to explain...like the RIDICULOUS comparisons to Harry Potter (better case) and avatar (zero case) thrown around here since Comcast showed up in Orlando...

You know what is a good comparison? Disney nuts.

Those that buy those ridiculous Dooney and Burke purses, 1600 vacation club points, pay $100 for cupcakes and a 13 year old fireworks show that lasts 7 minutes, and go to food and wine festival 3 weekends a year - every year.

It's the same damn thing. It's pop culture that people identify personally with and will till they leave their physical states.

It's not Justin beiber.

Then you'll be looking at them on their second, third showings and they may be in regular clothes...
None of who you describe aren't seeing it at least once tonight

There is some deliberate echoing, but it's done with respect to the orginal trilogy. Its like coming home after 4 years of college some things have changed some have stayed the same, but it's great to to go back and worth the trip.
