News Round Up

I would vote for a new thread, myself. As a lurker without news or rumors to share my opinion is strictly that. Actually, if we could keep on topic about strict news or rumor, and less opinion, that would be great too. Discussion should be on separate topics for those that wish to debate things such as removing Tom Sawyer, or shortening RR or Mark Twain.

Thanks for the feedback. We have been through the discussion thing before and there really isn't a huge way to get around that. I think some discussion in here is good but if it's just all discussion that could be a problem as news then gets lost.

I like the idea of a new thread each year.

It's a tough balance between news and opinion. (And I'll be the first to admit I am one of those that often puts up my opinions!) Some topics will touch a bigger nerve and get more responses. A big topic like the DL overhaul should (and probably does) have it's own thread, but I think there is nothing wrong with having some conversations in this thread as long as it doesn't get overwhelmed by it - and I don't think it did. But I think generally as group we are pretty good about that. For instance for D23 rteetz started a separate thread, and this one stayed relatively calm.

I am in agreement with the OP who asked for more news and less opinion. There are times I have learned some "very relevant to me" things on this thread, but quite often, I find that I am skimming the posts and skipping WAY more than I am reading, sometimes pages at a time.

A little discussion of topics is great - many of you have sources the rest of us don't - and sharing "news & rumors" is great. But to go on and on about a topics such as ESPN's hockey coverage, for example, is not what I come to this thread for. Sometimes it just seems like a contest to see who gets the last word...take it to another thread and keep this one more focused on news, please..

Don't mean to step on toes here....I'm a relative newcomer to this thread, and some of you have been here a very long time and are very comfortable sparring back and forth.

But since opinions were asked for...this is mine, for what it's worth. Ducking now...:duck:

I like the idea of a new thread each year! Looks like this one averaged about a page a day, which is great - but lengthy. My only concern is that you'd have to be clear about the time frame for anyone doing a historical search since this isn't a traditional "year end" (unless you are Disney finance :rolleyes1). Not sure if it'd really be an issue, just something I realized.

Re: Opinions vs News - I like that this thread is a mix of both. While I don't think it's a proper place for lengthy debate, I enjoy seeing the insight that other people bring to some of these topics.

Want to get some feedback for this thread moving forward. I was looking at possibly creating a new thread every year or something like that. I think this thread is great for sharing smaller news items like refurbs, new menus, photo updates and such. So should we do a news thread every year such as News and Rumor round up 2016 or something along those lines? This thread is well over a year old I think it's for a bit of change so just wanted to see what those who visit think. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for the time and work you put into the news thread. I think starting a new thread for 2016 is a good idea. Maybe the first page could be a recap of the unfinished things that were announced in 2015 or earlier that are ongoing.

That would probably be my next question should we do the thread on Disney fiscal year or the calendar year.

I doubt very much that you could effectively prohibit discussion, though encouraging different threads for specific discussions is a good plan, perhaps pushing a link "Let's continue discussing xxxxx here..."

The other thing I might suggest, for anyone posting actual news or rumor, use a Bold & Underline headline while posting. That way people who want to scan the thread for "important" posts can do so.

I like that people share their opinions on news and rumors. I would be upset if I had to go to a different thread every time someone wanted to voice their opinion on a rumor. :(

Hmm. Does this mean the video at the end won't be showing? Is it just going to be randomly plopped in somewhere in the exhibit? Why not put it in the Sounds Dangerous theater (unless its closing)? Guess I'm going to DHS Oct 16th

I think the rumor is that Sounds Dangerous will be where Jedi Training Academy moves. During the summer, I thought the Frozen short was showing in there. During Star Wars Weekends, a recap of the Rebel animated TV show was showing in there. It makes sense, but I think they really want to move JTA indoors, because it often has to close due to the weather.

I completely agree! A new thread for a new year is a great idea. Maybe the first post could contain a recap of "carry-over" news.

Opinions are what make this thread so entertaining and diverse. I agree that ESPN's sports coverage is not exactly what I'm looking for reading when going through the pages, though. As long as we keep it balanced, I don't mind if we keep the current format of the thread. And a new thread per year sound good for me.
