I think the exclusivity runs out in 2017. Wouldn't that be just in time for Avatars grand opening?

Could they possibly be allowed to build a ride with the technology as long as it doesn't open to the public before then?

Thats interesting for sure.

Knowing how cool FJ is, I actually am not certain this Banshee ride might be better.

Of course its opinions, and like I say-some folks can even ride FJ, but FJ feels quite "compacted", granted some screens give it a much larger feel here and there, but I really want to see what a Soarin type size screen can offer.

If its just Soarin with an Avatar movie-then not impressed. But will reserve judgement for now.

As far as I understand, Disney can't use a Kuka arm in a theme park attraction for a 10 year period. So no Kuka technology for Avatar.

Though they could use it for Star Wars land or to bring back the Incredible's coaster that was rumored to come to TL before Universal won the exclusivity deal.

Well I hope it isn't as you say "Soarin with an Avatar movie" as I would also be disappointed. The boat ride looks like it will be visually amazing but again there are only so many boat rides you can do. From the drawings etc. it looks like it's going to look spectacular so I hope that the rides live up to that. And I understand that Disney wants to have stuff for everyone and all ages but I think they need to have a few more thrill rides! I see that Tron coaster and I think wow now that looks like a great ride....yah I don't care about Tron just the ride. Hopefully they will make up for some of this at HS as they have some good rides there and just need a some more to balance out the shows etc.

Tron looks amazing, not sure if there's inversions but would vote for that for sure.

So back over 100 pages in March, we first learned that the publicly traded Universal Studios Japan was beginning work on an all new theme park resort in Okinawa Japan. That was pretty great news, but we've let a few months pass by. Back then there was a conversation about what type of park this would be, me and @rteetz had a conversation on our observations.
I'm going out on a limb and guessing this isn't going to be Universal branded. Why would there be a random Universal Theme Park without any Universal IP or attractions? Doesn't make sense does it?
If they are only putting 200 million into it that won't make a dent in the orientals [Land Company]. Those Tokyo parks are packed on a daily basis.
Now we've got new information straight from Disney and More.
"Nangoku translates to “Southern Country,” and the term is often used in Japanese to refer to tropical regions and islands. The new name makes sense given that the new Okinawan location is in one of the most southern parts of Japan, but netizens are confused as to why management would drop the Universal brand, which is strongly entrenched in the Japanese market and, obviously, a huge draw. Presumably, this would mean also the absence of many of Universal Studios Japan’s signature movie-themed rides.
Many people took to their keyboards questioning why the company would drop the connection to the Universal film branding.
“Will the new theme park have no relation to movies?”
“I don’t understand. Why wouldn’t they use the studio branding?”
“The Universal Studios brand is a widely known name. It will make things harder if they don’t use it.”
“This is out of character; totally unexpected. ”
“Nangoku? What kind of theme park is that?”
Admittedly, it is surprising to build a tropical theme park in Okinawa – the place has no shortage of natural tourist attractions with more than enough activities to occupy your time, such as world-class snorkeling, swimming, diving, and kayaking, in between the island hopping and shrine visits visitors can also engage in.
However, it could very well be that USJ is planning to branch out from its traditional movie themes, since it already has an amusement park for such attractions in Osaka. There was recent speculation that the company would partner with Nintendo, for example, which would presumably allow it to expand its horizons somewhat.
According to a statement made by Glenn Gumpel (CEO of USJ) back in March, the park’s main target will be inbound tourists to Japan, in an attempt to lure them to travel to southern Japan beyond the more oft-visited likes of Tokyo and Kyoto. The number of foreign tourists visiting Okinawa has increased significantly over the last year; in 2014, 8.9 million tourists visited the southern tropical island, representing a 62-percent increase from the previous year. It is hoped that the Nangoku Resort will attract even more tourists by showcasing the natural beauty and charm of Okinawa and tropical Japan.
The location and planned opening date for Nangoku Resort are yet to be revealed, but possible candidate sites include Ocean Expo Park and Neo Park Okinawa."

It seems like our initial expectations about this were right on point. It's not Universal Branded and it's also not geared to the same audience as Oriental Land and Universal Studios. For random predictions back in March that's not bad lol. I wonder how it will all turn out, and it sounds like it's going to be a pretty cool attraction. Anytime a new theme park opens among the big companies that's exciting news.

Tropical? That could be interesting I would assume some water based attractions then maybe along the lines of a DisneySea but different?

Tron looks amazing, not sure if there's inversions but would vote for that for sure.
I don't think there is because it's supposed to be like your riding an actual bike. There will be effects on the ride in the show building as if you as racing another set of bikes except the other set crashes.

It will have that simulator type soarin feel but will do more than what soarin does as you aren't in a glider you're on a banshee.

I keep hearing that it will be like Soaring but I have a hard time seeing that when I'm looking at the construction especially as there seems to have been rails in some of the pictures. It's to bad that it's not going to be more along the HP rides a bit more thrilling than Soaring. I think I'm one of the few people (well actually all of my family) that really didn't care for it much. Maybe when they upgrade it and have a new film.
Here are the leaked blue prints for the show building

You'll have four theaters. That red section on the right is part of the boat ride. Dark green, blue, yellow, and pinkish sections are the theaters. Purple is queue area. Orange, magenta, and neon green are electrical and CM rooms.

I just checked a website that showed you how to do it. The option definitely doesn't appear on my screen.

That's where it appears on my screen - you may just be too far out.
So is the big Avatar ride going to be along the line of the Harry Potter Hogwarts ride?

I keep hearing that it will be like Soaring

Well I hope it isn't as you say "Soarin with an Avatar movie" as I would also be disappointed.

I will predict it is going to be very little like soarin' except that it is going to be a motion simulator and there may be a large screen involved, but I don't think it will feel much like Soarin', it will be much more of a serious thrill.

This is a shot in the dark, but do you have to do it on a computer but you're trying to access it on a mobile device? Again...I really don't know if that matters or not, just brainstorming.
Actually it does matter according to the WDWmagic article the option is not available on mobile devices yet but is on a computer.

Right.... And wrong.

Exclusivity is for 10 years. But it started in 2007 - so.... Interesting premise. Hopefully some news sooner than later. Others know more than I, but the less Disney talks about the ride system - the more likely it is Kuka based but they can't say it or show it until a certain time.

From what I've heard it will be some sort of vekoma ride system.

Just a report from the DVC typhoon lagoon event. I actually thought it was well executed and a nice touch. I know Disney has gotten flak for extra events that haven't gone well but it was a pretty well attended but not too crowded and also a pretty fun event

I don't know the specifics of that particular contract, but I assume that the deal between Kuka and Universal establishes that Kuka cannot sell their arms for any theme park attraction until 2017, not necessarily that Disney can't open a kuka arm ride. The problem in this scenario is that Kuka is not allowed to sell their robotic arms to Disney until 2017. It is fair to assume that by that point, Disney should be well beyond the construction stage, and they should be testing the ride, so it'd be quite problematic for Disney to wait until Kuka is allowed to finally supply them.

As I said, though, that is just hypothetical. I don't really know the terms of that deal, so I'm not sure if Kuka would be able to supply their arms before 2017. I agree that they could go for a vekoma system instead. Vekoma has quite some experience with panoramic flight simulators.

A year later...

Volcano bay is happening and happening very quickly

Kong didn't get the budget cuts as rumored

Still nothing on this

We know the frozen ride details and opening in May

Where has been stated that frozen would open in May? Just curious :D

According to themeparkinsider Disney has selected a contractor for Star Wars land at DHS and announcement is expected soon likely at D23.
Thanks for sharing that! The article also said that they could begin construction very shortly. That's much better than the 2021 projections! Three years to build, puts us at late 2018 early 2019 opening!
