This is more significant than people realize. The dolls from one movie are eclipsing an entire major line of dolls. It is as if Ford came up with one model that sold more than all Chevy's combined. Impossible. Not going to happen. But it did in the toy world.

If Anna and Elsa material sells for thousands of dollars fifty years down the road that will be significant. No real comparasion between the two lines overall.

Have to agree...

there is really no "must have" items this year that is really driving the toy sales. It's just overall, gluttonous, American spending going on in this "strong". (ie...fake) economy.

I also question the influence of Barbie now as compared in years past. Is this your 8 year olds desire anymore? It's seems the offerings for girls have evolved a little... With American girl, the lego friends series, etc.

Sorry, Tim...you're up in the 'aid on this one. Giving Disney more credit than they deserve here.
As I've said 100 times...tangled was a better movie and laid the groundwork for frozen. It never happens without the development of the look and feel of tangled...or the reported 260 mil investment to "modernize" the princess genre.

Do you guys ever go out in the real world? Do you ever go in toy stores? Do you interact with any little kids? Frozen, just one movie's toys, is replacing the number one line. I shop for 13 different kids ages 1 to 10, the majority girls. Barbie has an entire isle - both sides - full of stuff at ToysRus. The quarter isle that is Frozen is outselling Barb. At all major stores like Boscovs Kohls Sears etc., there are huge standalone Frozen kiosks. And all the little girls are still going Frozen crazy. I see it. Went to the MK Christmas party prior to Thanksgiving. Frozen dress on many a little girl, long lines, etc. Frozen on Ice sells out everywhere and adds extra shows like never before in history.

The only way you can miss this is to stay in your house, don't go in any toy stores, don't turn on the TV and don't go on the Internet.

Respectfully that's part of your problem with this argument. It's definitely the real world - it's a flash in the pan like so many other things. Ever hear of Cabbage Patch Kids? Tickle Me Elmo? There have been as many 'flashes' as there has been Christmas holidays. It's Frozen now and as Lockedoutlogic stated Disney is milking this as much as they can. Frozen too shall pass.

I have a five year old daughter..and honestly she has put anna and Elsa on the shelf next to all the other princesses... Which she loves and you can still get far more merch from...

See the Disney store or any Disney park.

Disney has made a fortune and it is the biggest
Property this year...no doubt.

But it cannot be labeled a cultural phenomenon...because a 100% necessary ingredient for that is TIME.
You have to have it...it would be like making cookies without sugar.

You can't say frozen is bigger than Barbie except in a snapshot period of time...specifically now where attention spans in humans tend to be shorter than most house cats. That assessment is dismissing 99.5% of the empirical data.

Again..I think you are confusing box office receipts and the walmart toy isle with something that had stood the test of time.

If the argument sounds familiar... It's because it's the EXACT same as the avatar one...except that was more flash in the pan and didnt sell any merch.

Frozen will "fade" into the realm of the little mermaid and Cinderella...which is nothing to scoff at...but that's the end game here.

Now...Disney does have a cultural phenomena brewing as we speak...
It had 50 million downloads of an 88 second trailer within a couple hours of release the other day.

Why phenomena? Time...damn near forty years and enough bank to buy Elsa for a quarter in Vegas...
(Bizarre analogy...I know...but effective)

Micechat Disneyland update.

Disneyland President Michael Colgazier will have an announcement to DCA managers Thursday.
It's expected that he will announce the Frozen takeover in DCA Hollywood Land. The additions will open December 20th to the public.

MuppetVision will be replaced by a Frozen Sing Along. The theater will be rebranded as the Crown Jewel Theater while Frozen is in there. If this is popular this will remain through 2015 and until a new show can be created by WDI.

Stage 17 will be come Olafs Snow Fest, a snow playground where you can play in the snow and meet Olaf. This will use the pager system used at WDW's Dumbo.

Anna and Elsa will move their meet and greet to the Disney Animation building.

The Mad T Party that is closing will become Freeze the Night. This will include more frozen in a cocktail-fueled dance party.

Storybook Land Canal Boats is going to get an arendale addition.

Colgazier will not be announcing the following.
Soarin over California will get new 4k digital projectors, a new audio system, and new in theater effects.

Soarin' the World is expected to debut in 2016 in Shanghai but Iger claims the park will open in November 2015.

The entire Condor Flats area will receive a cosmetic upgrade.

Luigi's Flying Tires will be gone for good in February 2015. A new ride with WiFi controlled cars called Luigi's Festival of Dance will come soon after.

World of Color will be receiving upgrades. The lagoon will be drained, some new equipment will be installed. A new updated show will debut in the spring.

Fantasyland dark ride upgrades Alice is still not done new projection mapping animatronics will be coming to the attraction. Peter Pan will receive the biggest upgrades of all the dark rides. Mr. toads will be getting a lot of attention as well. Projection mapping animatronics are expected in most of these attractions.

The Matterhorn will be getting a refurb, a new abominable snowman animatronic is being worked on. The famous Matterhorn star will comeback next December.

Paint the Night will kick off in May 2015, a diamond encrusted overlay is coming to the castle, a lot of royal blue bunting and crystals will be draped around the resort. The paint the night coming to Disneyland is supposed to be longer and better than what Hong Kong got.

A new CM only Starbucks opened up backstage.

As soon as the 60th celebration ends Toontown will be bulldozed for Star Wars.

Tacky...but 110% predictable

If you had told me 15 years ago that the parks would be without direction (and cheap) and the MOVIES division would be well run and delivering quality...I would have been less shocked to wake up with my head seen to the carpet

And Colgazier's contract ends at the end of 2015. Also something funny from the Micechat article Disneyland officials came to WDW to see how they ran the frozen events. Disneyland following WDW isn't a good thing.

That better be only in DL, or my entire family is going to flip.

Too bad they've seemed to have lost their parody gene - they were really the best - Disney and the Hensen Group.

Mickey and Scrooge McDuck in the Christmas Carol, etc., plus The Muppets have been all about parody from the beginning

What a great opportunity for both. Leverage Frozen and upgrade Muppets.

I'd pay money to see Ms Piggy sing "Let it Go" and Fozzie as Olaf.....

Too much to ask for, I know.......
