Also, and not trying to diminish what OLC is doing but that $4.5B is over 10 years. Between new fantasyland, Avatar, DHS, and other projects, WDW will get about that much (probably much more if you include NextGen, Hub, Disney Springs, etc) over a 10 year period.
4.5 billion is going towards a new port in DisneySea and a doubling the size of fantasyland in Tokyo Disneyland. Also tokyo gets things done a lot quicker than they have in Florida, doubt this will take 10 years this is just part of their 10 year plan. This fantasyland expansion is Tokyo is expected to blow MK out of the water, which most things in Tokyo do. WDW has four parks, NFL cost around 400 million, avatar is around 500 million, DHS rumored budget is just over a billion, next gen cost 2 billion so that's 4 billion right there but spread over four parks so it actually looks like less even tho it isn't necessarily.

Tokyo is getting New Fantasyland that is about to blow ours out of the water it's all part of a 4.5 billion dollar investment into the parks oh how I wish disney would do something like this.

A new Alice wonderland is expected, possible mine train clone but probably better than ours, small world is moving, dumbo is moving, and lots more.

Also part of this expansive investment a new 500 million dollar frozen area in DisneySea called the port of arrendale.

The fantasyland expansion will double the size of the existing one

Do you know where this is in English? The link was Japanese. Never mind. Saw the other post: http://wdwnt.com/

Thanks. More reasons to visit Japan.

The article on WDWMagic said the project is $4.5B over 10 years and it mentioned infrastructure and nextgen as well.

The frozen area in DisneySea alone is projected to cost over 500 million. What I'm saying is a large majority of that money will spent on new attractions and that will be done in the next three years I believe I read somewhere a target date was 2017. Also these aren't disney run parks so they can do whatever they want basically as long as they pay disney for the character rights. 4.5 billion is part of there 10 year plan which most companies have and should have, these new attractions won't take 10 years to build.

In regards to its a small world moving in Tokyo spirit says the building has structural issues so work had to be done no matter what.

Also as for DHS a star tours 3.0 is expected once new movies are out.

does Star Tours 3.0 mean new scenes added into the mix I guess? Will they wait till all movies are out, or add them in stages?

This has been hypothesized since the new Star Tours opened that they could change the scenes. It really wouldn't be 3.0 though, more like 2.1.

Since Star Tours currently takes place between Episodes 3 and 4, and the new movies take place 30 years after Episode 6, it is unlikely they would place any characters from the new trilogy into the story, but could certainly visit new locations.

Correct they did the same with toy story 3 for TSMM they added the new characters into the ride.

I suspect I will forever avoid the parks on or near thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years, but I'm curious to see reviews about each locations holiday offerings.

I've been to Boma once when they upgraded their offerings for the Christmas week arrivals. Will be doing the same this year.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but Disney doesn't own Tokyo they basically run it like a franchise, that's why Cast members don't get free admission into the parks or discounts either. Oriental land company owns the resort and they signed a contract way back when that states that they have to abide by what disney ok's and run the park as if it was a disney park so whatever investment is going into them isn't disney money.

it's been mentioned and you might want to read the whole thread. :thumbsup2

It is Disney money and it basically is a bailout. Not a thing wrong with it.

No you're getting this mixed up disney does not own the Tokyo parks the Oriental land company does. The OLC leases the characters, rides, shows, etc from disney, anything that is built is done through imagineering. Disney doesn't pay any money for the construction costs. Disney only gets money from the licensing contracts and leasing of rights. Disney only owns the American parks completely the rest of the parks around the world are partially disney owned except of course the Tokyo parks which are entirely owned by OLC. No bailout what so ever.

Yes - if there were talks of a bailout - it's probably for Disneyland Paris...

Have been enjoying reading through this thread and I just wanted to add something I recall reading on another site. The budget I saw mentioned for DHS by a very special Spirit was north of 1.6 billion, very close to 1.7 when all is said and done. He also indicated that this value was approved.

Also, DHS construction has technically already started as I believe that Sound Stage 1 has been designated a construction zone and cast members are no longer allowed in that area.

Yes sound stage 1 is already getting work done to add the third track another permit was filed a day or two ago. In the latest spirit update he didn't give any actual numbers for the DHS project. The main thing we have to go on is around what DCA got for their big redo which was just over 1 billion. It's pretty much certain DHS will receive somewhere between 1-1.8 billion.

That was the number that I initially saw reported also. But if you scroll through some of the latest info in the infamous spirited thread, it goes on to state this:

"TWDC played with that budget too. The figure they widely circulated was $1.2 billion, BUT that didn't include TSMM, WoC, the new Pixar Parade, all those night fests etc. The figure most in the business use when all of that is factored in is somewhere north of $1.6 billion."

That is the number that I am going with for now.

I want to point out that comparing construction budgets for WDW &TDL are comparing apples to oranges. Not to say that $4 billion isn't more.money than $1.6 billion, but you do not really know the costs are equal in both countries. A construction worker in the United States may make $20 an hour while one in Japan makes $35. Taxes and fees may be much higher in Japan as well.

Until the DHS announcement is made its not really even worth comparing.
