The parts of it I could see were a light tan plastic and looked very clean/new, they had a piece of cloth draped on it with the word green on it and they weren't letting anyone board on them. 4 passed before a much older and beat up looking boat came up and the gates opened so we could board. The size was the same but they definitely looked like different boats. We got stuck at the end where jack is in the treasure room for about 10 minutes while they checked the empty boats in front of us.
The size is one of the major issues. I can't see them going with new boats that are the same exact size. I'll look around to see if I can find more info on it but my guess is modified boats rather than brand new ones.

Quite possible, just reporting what I saw, the old boat we rode tipped so far to the right I made my DH sit all the way to the other side to avoid taking on water.

The Pirates refurb thread over at wdwmagic doesn't have anything about new boats or even modified boats. There are pages of complaints about the boats taking in water and getting people soaked tho.

This is the boat we rode in:

The ones we saw being tested looked the same except the front and light brown parts around the boats were the same color as the seats. I would have taken pics but keeping my kid from having a melt down was priority. Don't know if the boats were just refurbished or new :confused3

Rode a couple weeks ago, boats looked the same but I wasn't really inspecting them, front row, sat in water and .............. we got wet.

Maybe they are reprinting the boats?

We sat in the second row a couple of weeks ago and got soaked. I've less wet on splash mtn. I felt very bad for the little family on the front row; it was two parents and a little girl about 4 years old. They were all soaked to the bone and the little girl was very weepy the whole time. You could tell all three of them were regretting getting on the ride.

how exactly are people getting "soaked" on pirates? Splashes from canonballs?

Or is "soaked" completed hyperbole?

The majority seem to be on the drop.

I for one was on it 2 weeks ago and stayed dry in the 3rd row for the drop (granted I scooted as far to the middle as I could) but then got completely drenched by a cannonball blast.

A number of the complaints I have seen were about water coming over the edge of the boat on the drops or with general movement. My friend had to wring the water out of her skirt after the ride because of all the water on the floor of the boat.

No like these boats are taking on water and people are getting soaked the on the drop. I've seen dozens of reports of it. It's a major problem currently.

It's going to be interesting to see how they implement the FP+ system at DL. I really can't see people booking their FP's+ 6 months in advance over there.

After spending the last 10 months in WDW and this past weekend in DLR, I definitely missed MagicBands. Part of it is that WDW is built for larger crowds and understands how to be expedient, but the process of park entrance/FP redemption with the paper passes seemed so tedious. I have never had to wait in as long a line to enter Magic Kingdom as I did to enter DL, I'm positive a major part of that is the process of paper passes. Some of the lines to get fastpasses were also longer than I have ever seen any kiosk out here. Radiator Springs (outlier, I know) had at least a 30 minute line for a good portion of the morning until they ran out.

I don't think that MDX as it is in WDW would work in DLR, but a version of it wouldn't be terrible IMO
