News Round Up

Irresponsible rumor mill again....

Now based on every actual move for the last 10 years... Why?....dear god why?... Would they build a "new, huge resort" in that area?

There at about 80% occupancy (much higher around 2000...I can verify as a fact)...

So seriously...can't bloggers switch the common sense filter on every now and then?

That location is the rumored location of stand alone DVC resort. Just because many of us don't think Disney will ever build that resort doesn't mean Disney isn't at least drawing up plans.

This board is really news, rumors and speculation.
How about this. Could Disney be considering selling off that parcel of land? Could the owners of the Four Seasons be interested in running a true 4* hotel to go along with their 5* resort? JW Marriott?

If their new strategy however is to add DVC to moderates like the next poster said, then I have no problem saying that that's one really stupid idea

Agree x10...

It would blow the whole thing up. My opinion...for more reasons than I could type if I spent the rest of the day on it.

The inference was off...as I think you would agree...

Because they do land studies (as you kind of need to in a swamp with sinkhole activity)... Doesn't mean you make the irresponsible jump to "could this be a new mega resort?!?!"

Out of line as is typical of fictionscape... With the "we hear now plans have been shelved" veiled retraction that they produce for 90% of their "confirm news stories" probably coming in a few months.

As you pointed out with your example...lots of potential angles behind something so simple...or nothing at all.

According to what I heard Disney is looking to add DVC to the moderates besides Coronado Springs because of its convention clients they don't want to mess with them. Thats also why they are not going to add DVC to the Yacht Club. Every Deluxe is being looked at for more DVC at this point.

A lot of the "rumors" on this board are nothing more then pure speculation. I wouldn't call a rumor based on balloon representations of height "irresponsible". It's a rumor which has at least a little bit of fact to support it.

Didn't Disney go so far as to issue a press release on a DVC resort at Eagle Pines? Disney considers a lot of things which never happen.

edited to add: Current Disney management doesn't want to "waste" valuable assets.

I have no doubt a mega-resort in that location is being considered. I have little doubt selling/leasing that area, assuming DVC doesn't build, is something that could happen. My memory is the Swan and Dolphin predate Starwood. Originally the hotels were run by competing chains. When Disney decided to lease land by the Disney Village for outside hotels they put 7 hotels. A second hotel near the Four Seasons is certainly a possibility.

This is only speculation on my part. JMO but a rumor needs some underlying facts.

I agree completely agree...

Especially the "underlying facts" part

And that's where I have a problem with the blog Disney sites... Their " facts" are often flimsy rumors coming from other small
Potatoes disney sites

JMO A rumor based on Disney using balloons to check site lines is a rumor which is worth discussion. Worth it even if we agree Disney is unlikely to follow through with the project.

How many rumors have we read about the monorail continuing from EPCOT through the S/D and on to the Studio? The black areas don't even line up.

isn't half the draw of DVC location? I know from my perspective as someone who stays DVC the draw to the newer sites is proximity to park and transportation perks etc. while the moderates are nice resorts in their own right who would want to own and pay a premium for DVC for a lesser product?

The first thing that comes to mind is a Class War. People would flip out if all the Deluxe DVC rooms were booked by people who bought Moderate points.

Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room will be closed for refurbishment in late September.

The refurbishment is scheduled for September 27 through to October 3, reopening to guests on October 4 2014.

I hope (among other things) they are working on the totem animatronics. I was there last week and it seemed like a lot of them were broken. I adore the Tiki Room but I did think it was starting to need a little love...

Festival of the Masters has been cancelled for this year at Downtown Disney.

Due to the large amount of construction and parking restrictions currently underway as part of the Disney Springs redevelopment, Disney has determined that it will not be possible to host the show.

Taking place each November, the annual event hosted hundreds of award winning artists in an exhibition and art marketplace. In recent years, the festival has expanded to include food and drink offerings.

It is unclear what the future of the event will be, and if it will return in later years at Disney Springs or elsewhere on Walt Disney World property.

I could see Disney using a booking system that takes into account where you own the points you are using to make your reservation. (Talk about class warfare!). But seriously, if they wanted to do it they could. For example, a person who owns points at a new moderate DVC resort would pay 1.25 or 1.5 points to book a regular DVC resort for each 1 point owned at a regular DVC. So if you own current DVC points at a regular DVC and it takes 100 points to book at BCV, someone who would own points at a moderate DVC would need 125 or 150 points to book the same room. I do NOT like the idea, but it could be done and it would never surprise me if Disney did such a thing. To them adding DVC to moderate resorts means revenue, plain and simple.

Why go through that hassle of different tiers of points? Why not just have their rooms cost half as many points? Then people would only need to buy half as many points if they want to stay at a moderate.

The other option would be to have it be completely separate, so moderate points are only good at moderate DVC. Maybe allow some sort of exchange program but put some sort of disincentive on it so you don't have existing DVC members flooding the moderates.

I understand your points and I agree. Just saying I could see Disney doing this, promoting points at a little cheaper price but telling potential owners that they can stay at any of the other DVC resorts with their points. They currently sell DVC by saying you can go anywhere in the world using your points through the exchange. Not a good value for your points as far as I am concerned, but it is a strong selling point Disney uses. I could see them doing the same with a lower-tiered DVC point system just for the strong selling point. Again, I think any path towards this stinks. If anything is ever done, I hope it is completely separate as you stated.

Disney has today announced that changes are indeed coming to the "Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It! Street Party" at the Magic Kingdom.

First up is a name change to "Move it! Shake It! Dance & Play It! Street Party." Joining Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy will be Stitch and Phineas & Ferb. New music will include a medley of remixed classic party songs, with guests voting for one of three current hits during the finale “Play It!” part of the show.

The refurbishment of Mickey's PhilharMagic at the Magic Kingdom has been extended by just over a week.

Beginning on September 8, the refurbishment will now end on September 27, reopening to guests on September 28 2014. The refurbishment was originally scheduled to be completed on September 19.
