News Round Up 2020

I would only expect crowds to be worse in December. I wonder what some people's frustration tipping point is with too long of lines even just to get into places like stores at Disney Springs. Disney is walking a tight rope between upping capacity but being safer without making the guest experience too annoying due to potentially longer waits. It is a tough balancing act and I dont envy the decision makers,

I wouldn’t hold your breath on that one. FP won’t return (if it returns at all) until social distancing is gone. They won’t add a second line when lines are already stretching into previously unheard of territory.
I just keep thinking how can they increase capacity and have long waits and not bring them back. I’m going over Easter break.

I keep coming back to that they really need more things for people to do while waiting for their FPs time to come besides just getting on the standby line for another ride - which will only make those standby lines even longer and stretch even further.

So I til shows are back, parades are back, etc I just don't see it

I don’t think Disney is going to bring back free fast passes. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t see it happening. Probably be something like it was before but with a 49.99 dollar price tag. Won’t even be like universal if you stay in a high end resort its free. I have nothing to back this up and I’m hope I’m wrong.

Agree all FP does is take the 2 hour line at Space Mountain and dumps it in rides like IASW, HM and POTC, 15 minutes at a time. It feels like you’re waiting less because everything has a small wait but in reality unless you’re an A+ FP gamer, you spend the same amount of time in line each day.

According to Martin at WDWmagic if it becomes a paid option it will controlled enough not to impact standby lines in a meaningful way.

He phrased in the the form of a hypothetical though - I read that as perhaps the leading option, not something set in stone.

Nothing is set in stone as it changes daily. That's why I said if. From everything thats been put out there a paid system is coming.

The return of FP won't solve the "long line" issue. Only decreasing max capacity (which they obviously don't want to do) or decreasing social distancing in queues and ride vehicles (which they don't want to do yet) will solve the long line issue.

But yes .. come March/Easter .. with the opening of another hotel and more people coming (so max capacity is reached more consistently) .. it could get rough. But Disney is doing more things every week in taking steps back to "normal"-- more restaurants opening, more hotels, fireworks returning to the Castle .. etc. The more "normal" .. than more crowds will be naturally spread out.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are more steps moving towards normal announced soon (though they may not go live until spring).

Yeah I wouldn’t expect anymore returns to normal after New Years for a few months. I actually would expect some restaurants to reclose down after the holidays until spring or summer. These openings right now are directly related to the holiday crowds and may not carry over after them. Same with those fireworks bursts. Those will end right after Christmas.

FP will return integrated into the new Genie app. In what form, paid, free etc I don’t believe is known. But I wouldn’t expect the normal FP to return until Genie is rolled out. Shouldn’t be too far out, it was supposed to be released around now per the D23 announcement. I’d expect to hear more about it around when Park Hopping returns in January and possibly rolled out before Spring Break crowds would be my guess

I get the sense it is known, just not to the public. If they can generate positive cash flow from it, then I think it makes the answer.

I think maybe Christmas and New Years week. Early December still looks good as far as the park reservations.
