News Round Up 2020

I just got an email from Delta (SkyMiles member) offering a 14 day free trial for D+. In all seriousness, and as a shareholder, I love how they are casting a wide net right now. Some people are bound to stay and pay who aren’t already subscribers.

If you have Verizon they give you a free year. I got it without even asking

Good question. I tried it out and our theatre forces them to sit apart, at least while ordering tickets. Not sure if/how this would be enforced in the theatre.

Doesn’t really seem like it will be a problem though as people are just not going out of their homes if they don’t have to. 2 hours before the showing and not a single ticket sold in the theatre. Normally this theatre is extremely busy and would be almost full!!

We usually go see a movie every weekend thanks to regal unlimited. This weekend we are not going to see a movie. Not because of the virus but because we got a puppy on Tuesday. If it wasn’t for a new puppy we will definitely be going.

And I haven’t let heard of colleges refunding room and board expenses, or paying students for the on campus part-time jobs they had to pay for their tuition and room & board.
Each school has different policies.

Hope it is ok to post this here, but a lot of the CP kids are a bit distraught currently, unsure where they will go at the end of the month. A google form has been started for those who need somewhere to stay to indicate as such and those in the area with room to spare indicating as such:

This is terrible. About 4K cast members just told to pack their things. No notice. Seeing reports of people in the parks seeing these poor kids just walking out of the parks.

I’m guessing this means they are expecting to be closed past the end of this month.

Disney did right on a lot of things but what they did to the college program kids wasn’t right. Totally disgusting

It’s kind of shocking compared to how well they’ve handled everything else.

I’m not sure I understand how this is so terrible. Every other college student (including my own) is home. I’m sure there are parents who WANT their kids home. ALL college kids, not just DCP, are feeling this. My son told me one of his friends had finally gotten a job in a lab (on campus) that he had been working toward for at least a year. He has been sent home and this is his Senior year - no more second chances for him either. The world is FULL of disappointments right now. I don’t think Disney sending DCP kids home, with pay through March, is a bad deal.

It’s the way it was done. From what I’ve seen the decision was just handed down today after they were told they were not getting terminated.

I think if they had announced it along with the park closing and publicly offer them assistance moving out it would have played out better.

I think it is just the suddenness of it and the fact it is "over" and for some they might not know how or if they can get home

I am sure part of it from Disney's standpoint is to not have so many of them congregated in one place.

If they were *officially* told they were not being let go, then I get the anger. OTOH, this is a fluid situation that has never been dealt with in our lifetime. Circumstances change daily, if not hourly.

I was listening to the DIS Unplugged from THIS Tuesday. Pete was trying to decide if he was going on a cruise, doing a week at WDW, and then his ABD to Egypt. What - 2 or 3 days later that decision had been made for him - Disney shut everything down. It is the nature of what we are living through right now.

I’m in no way saying Disney is 100% at fault here. This is a tough situation all the way around. And like I said they have handled most of it very well. It could very well be that they intended to keep the kids around at first and then due to changing circumstances suddenly reversed course.

Whatever the case, the way this seems to have been communicated is awful. You have other companies offering free flights to these people.

I feel like everything with the situation with the virus is ever evolving and changing minute by minute. Things are being canceled all over the country suddenly. It is sad but that is the situation we are in right now. There are alot of disappointed children and people right now.
