News Round Up 2020

what are the odds they have one at WDW soon??

I did see a report that today the R2-D2 that was in the store wasn't there this morning .... so might just be me putting 2 and 2 together to get 5 (which, is only true for large values of 2) but made me wonder if they might be having him roam around in WDW as well

It would be great if that was the case. It would also be great if they had that as part of a opening ceremony for the droid bay everyday. R2D2 waking up from a Charge Cycle before wandering the area. Could have a cast member dressed up as a droid mechanic just randomly going through a "diagnostics" check and then send R2D2 on its way. I assume the R2D2s are using some of the same "droid" tech that was shown off in the Disney + series and tested at Disneyland awhile back, so I do understand they prob have some intense maintenance requirements that would need to be handled backstage but I dont see why that cant all happen before open and then be moved into position for a little scripted action.

I know i am no imagineer but i do have imagination

I believe if I’m not mistaken R2D2 isn’t autonomous like the droid, J4-K3 or Jake, that was featured in the Disney+ series or tested in Tomorrowland at Disneyland. My understanding is it’s fairly basic similar to how Push was operated. I hope they finally get around to something to the level of Jake being utilized but I imagine the changing and oppressive crowds might be too much currently.

Even if it is similar to push they could still do a preshow like i discussed above. It would actually be easier to do since you would already be having a "technician" following R2 around

I agree they could make it into a show that idea would be really upping their elements in the land.

Oh I do hope your math proves true!

One would think there would be employee bus route from flamingo crossing and would save on employee parking at each resort. Looks like the employee housing will be self sufficient village like a college campus, so these folks could get away without having a car etc.

CPs are already encouraged to not bring a car and utilize the bus system going to work. I will say from experience that I would NEVER complete a CP without a car. The bus system is unreliable and the schedules are awful. That being said, you could never pay me enough to be a CP in this day and age. It's changed far too much since my time.

So, another group of hotels getting the 60 day FP+ ability. :(

It may or may not be included in the "WDW Official hotels" group - this area seems to be geared more toward CP folks and their families, so their target audience isn't people who are planning elaborate vacations. Housing for CP participants, hotels for families to stay at move-in and move-out, and for short stays to visit their CP kids. That's not the target market for the FP and EMH.
