News Round Up 2016

Yep, the thought of drone tech is really cool to me. The show was intended to be longer but there were some issues tracking over water due to reflections and such things. The show worked better overview land but then you run in the problem of having people around.

There's definitely a lot more that it could develop into - but for me that's part of the excitement. I'm in a position where I get to see these developments first hand, and I also have the interest and modest understanding of how these systems work.

That's my personality though - I enjoy things where I can understand and appreciate the back end work, as well as the potential future that exists for the situation. It's part of the reason I didn't understand the complete distaste for Jungle Book AWM - that project was created on such short notice, had a lot of great aspects, and could have developed into a really great show had they chosen to continue and modify the performances.

Just another example of how Walt Disney World would be so much better without all the darn people!

Personally, I have no trouble with alcohol in any of the parks. Most adults can be responsible drinkers. Those that can't need to be attended to.

The only time I have ever seen drunk/disorderly people in any of the parks is our first and only experience at the Food and Wine event a couple of years ago. There were knee-walking drunks - loud - obnoxious - potty mouths in the garden behind UK while the band was playing. We were waiting there for our R&C reservation, and when the band was finished, the many of the people, some pushing stollers, some with older kids, stayed behind, running for more drinks to the pub. One woman was almost falling down in front of us she was so drunk.

When we finally got called for our reservation, we were seated inside - the bar was filled with so many rowdy loud people, we couldn't even here our waitress when she tried to talk. There was one Disney security guard that just kept kind of circling, but never did anything but walk around. We did not enjoy anything that evening, and ate only part of our meal and left the park. We have no desire to go back to F&W.

I realize this is not everyone's experience, but was not caused by serving alcohol. The problem was caused by them not managing the people who drank too much. By serving alcohol only with meals in restaurants, I can't see that this would be a problem.

I love having wine with a good meal...I also really love those Grey Goose slushies they serve at a vendor cart at France. That doesn't mean everyone who drinks is drinking to get drunk.

The price they charge alone for the drinks is enough to discourage me from having more than one or two...ha ha

Sorry. Next time we will try to keep it down.....

I live in Jax and was planning to go down on Saturday to see the show, as my hubby is really into drones. Now I'm kind of concerned we might be disappointed...

I saw it last week. While short, it certainly is a "wow" factor to the show. The lights seem to appear from nowhere.

Viewing Notes: I was right by the Starbucks on the West Side. Unfortunately, the background music in Starbucks continued during the show, making it hard to hear the show. I'm not sure if this was just that one night or a recurring problem.

Also, the show is all up in the air. (Unlike Illuminations, where having a direct view of the lake is important.) There's no need to show up early and stake out a spot right against the railing. Everything happens well above Village Lake. So, as long as you don't have a NBA basketball player standing directly in front of you, you'll easily see the show.

We went over there to see it during our visit last week. It's cool to see, and it your husband it into drones I think he will enjoy it. If you have a nice dinner and enjoy Disney Springs I think it's worthwhile. There's some really good restaurants in DS, we enjoyed very good meals at Homecoming and Rick Bayless' restaurant (Frontera? I forget exactly what it's called, but it was fantastic.) The show itself is interesting, but know that it's quite short and not going to change your life or anything. I think if you have realistic expectations you'll really enjoy it - we did. I also wanted to see the beginnings of this technology, as it will likely be used in other shows in the next several years.

Despicable Me 3 trailer

I honestly had no idea they were making another one. Is it necessary?

Necessary? Well - similar to all of Disney's remakes, these movies make a TON of money. The first one was great, the 2nd one pretty good, Minions I thought was mediocre, but made $1.16 BILLION on a $79 million budget (Disney animated films cost around $150 million BTW), so from that standpoint I don't think we should be surprised. I'd rather see another story of Gru and his family than 90 minutes of minions. Minions work best as a minor component of a movie.

Agreed! After all they ARE minions!

I personally enjoy the sheer, unbridled stupidity of minions...like Beavis and butthead for the 7 year old...we watch them all the time

...and that movie made $1.1 billion worldwide...necessary?

...you've learned much, my young friend...but you have MUCH to learn

Plus in EPCOT, when someone can go from place to place, it's kind of hard to tell when that person it's their limit. At a bar, the bartender on shift knows how many drinks the person as had. While the EPCOT Cast Members should be able to gauge it, I'm sure there are some people that can be quite tipsy, remain composed, and then that one drink puts them over the edge.

I'm picturing a person climbing Cinderella's Castle and hanging from the top spire.

I don't drink, but every time I walk past Mexico I think how fun it would be to climb up there.....good for that guy!
