News Round Up 2016

No the frozen attraction in Tokyo was not replaced with beauty and the beast. The beauty and the beast ride was always planned for Tokyo in fantasyland. Frozen was planned for Tokyo DisneySea but has been put on hold.

Oh, that's true. Totally forgot that it was for DisneySea.

I was gonna say, it definitely seems like the appeal of Frozen is starting to wear off quite a bit. It's still popular, and I imagine this Frozenland is in preparation of Frozen 2, but it seems like Disney is still trying to play catch up.

It always seemed they were totally unprepared (as was I) for Frozen's popularity. Because of that, they have probably missed out, at least somewhat, on fully capitalizing on its success.

They definitely were slow to come out with merchandising ... but they do have the sequel coming out and it will be coming to Broadway so it isn't like it is was "just" the movie

It just seems rather quick for major attractions to be built for a property when you think how long after the Little Mermaid movie came out before a major ride was built, etc.

Today's Disney is very different than yesterday's. With Walt and even Eisner to an extent there was no major IP push in the parks. Today it's build an attraction with a major IP or nothing. I think that's why it took long for things like the little mermaid to happen, that push just wasn't a priority until now.

Yes it's a fantasyland expansion however the frozen attraction won't be frozen ever after.

Interesting, because as a PP noted, Toontown is distinctly seperated from the rest of Fantasyland. I'm curious to see how/if this plays out.

Glad its changed/changing-esp thinking Star Wars. :darth:

But some other stuff would be nice to.

Are there any rumors regarding Fantasmic in November of this year? The Fantasmic dining option isn't available for November.

Not sure if you can say the same for Walt. Swiss Family Treehouse opened on November 18th, 1962. Disney released their film "Swiss Family Robinson" on December 21st, 1960. The attraction was put up in less than 2 years after the film was released.

I think we just have to remember that Walt's real vision was not for a whole slew of theme parks in Orlando. He already did the theme park bit in Anaheim. He wanted what we know as Magic Kingdom to be a money source for his vision of EPCOT. He was pretty much bored with the theme park idea, and just wanted Magic Kingdom to draw tourists/citizens to what his EPCOT was going to be.

Also, Disneyland used to be closed on Monday (and maybe Tuesdays...can't remember). So that allows 48 solid hours of construction, without any guest interference. It was probably a lot easier to put up attractions back then.

If anything, imagining someone like Walt was in charge with today's scenario (multiple parks), I would argue that he would be pushing as much IP as possible. I don't find it hard to believe that imagineering had two or three ideas for every single movie released by Disney at the time (prior to the film even being released). If the movie was a success, I'm sure giving the greenlight to one of those ideas was pretty quick. Get the people in the parks and let them visit the worlds that they loved from their TV and movies. Once you have the next box office hit, replace/add/overlay/etc.

Money baby.

Oh I agree. I think my point with Walt and the IP thing was that they developed a lot of original attractions rather than just IP after IP.

Although I bet Walt would be impressed with the IP's created/obtained though. And likely by the correlating attractions created and coming soon as well.

probably think "you guys are making billions of dollars a year and you can't build the one thing that I laid out for you to build?!?!?!?!"
He'd most likely question what an 'Elsa and Anna' is and then continue to get confused about Wreck-it-Ralph, video games, and 3D animation.

Has an announcement been made for Epcot's tier system as it relates to FEA. I assume it is tier 1 like Soarin and TT, but was wondering if maybe they would do away with tiers since they have multiple headliners.
I guess I am still having trouble understanding the purpose of the tier system even after multiple visits

No announcement regarding that has been made. The tiers basically make it obvious there isn't enough attractions at Epcot or DHS. I don't think the tiers will go away when frozen opens.

I didn't think so but now with our unexpected trip at Thanksgiving I know it will be on the kids must do list and I still want Soarin :)
Gotta start thinking now about strategy since we are coming during crazy holiday time!
