News Round Up 2016

any reports on if they are happy with how it turned out? Like, clearly it is over budget but is the result what they were expecting?
They have been seeing increased spending which was one of the major goals but I'm not exactly sure how they feel on other aspects.

I can't say I know a lot about the subject, but I really doubt they spent 3 billion on MM+ Additionally, I'd think the drastic price increases would've started back in 2012/13, not until now if that was the case.

The costs probably weren't that high in 2012/2013. I think they had probably just started spending in 2010/11, with the majority of the costs being the IT/software, which it looks like they did at the last minute:rolleyes: Also, I thought yesterday was the first time in 2 years that they hadn't met earnings expectations, and I bet attendance had been increasing until this last quarter. I think they knew this was going to happen, so they started dropping the hammer. Also, most companies don't really plan very far ahead. They wait until it looks like earnings aren't going to be great before they react:sad2:

Am I really the only one who is so far very unimpressed with Shanghai Disneyland's attractions?

Well, I think Pirates and Tron looks amazing and their Peter Pan looks neat too. Some of the other rides look nice but not the most amazing (but I also don't want a park full of nothing bu 'E ticket' attractions personally)

I thought the stage show and Tarzan show looked pretty neat.

I was pretty unimpressed with the parade though

Which the earnings weren't bad, most things were still up and stock price is okay right now. However if a trend starts where things start to plateau or drop then there could be problems.

I thought Tron was good but not great. The ride vehicles and the ride at night look great but if I ride during the day going outside for a Tron ride just doesn't seem right.

Until I saw that video I actually didn't realize any of the track went outside

I think even during the day it looks cool for others to see (kinda like how at EPCOT you can see TT going around) - but agree as far as riding the ride it ruins the effect a bit

Maybe I just give them points for the innovative ride vehicles, etc. And will fully say after seeing the POVs of both I came away way more impressed with Pirates than Tron - but still felt Tron was quite good

I didn't think they were bad either. However, the market is always like "What have you done for me lately". They never want to see any down side and assume that spells doom and gloom. It's such an over-exaggerated thing, that it makes many businesses do stupid and crazy things.

I agree but I guess at least they are keeping roger rabbit I love that character.

It's a fun ride too. I wonder if they'll keep any of the Toontown elements near RR intact or just have that attraction in it's own little corner. There's enough space in Toontown for Frozen without removing the theming around the ride.

I just found out about Toontown...heartbroken!! I've only gotten to visit the place once in WDW, and I don't even remember that- any chance it'll be staying until next year..?

At the end of the day my question really is: Is the system REALLY worth 3-4 billion dollars? I mean, either some people are exaggerating the numbers or someone at Disney took A LOT of bad decisions.

As far as the Frozen ride goes, yeah, that kind of makes sense. Isn't there an expansion pad right besides Toontown that will be available even after Star Wars goes in there? Though I think it's a big loss as far as losing a big chunk of ToonTown, I have to say that besides the beautiful theming of that area, there isn't quite a lof of stuff to do there for people after certain age.

Spirit does like to exaggerate a bit but at this point I don't think $3 billion is out of the question. It's a system that isn't just a one time cost. The costs are going to forever increase on this.

It's not official yet so don't panic. It is likely a couple years away if it happens. They want to get Star Wars done first.

I was just coming to ask the same thing! My family always loved playing Toontown online and that was before we even knew Toontown was a place that existed in any Disney parks! We would love to go see it in person someday, but now it sounds like we need to plan that sooner rather than later. Yikes!
