News Round Up 2016

Pretty sure I'm the only SW fan who hates this.

First off... Disney, there are other characters in the SW universe, why do you have to do back stories?

Second.... This could potentially ruin han's character arc in a new hope. I'm assuming this Han solo prequel won't end with him being a grey toned character, he'll be a good guy. If he's a good guy... Then he learned nothing and had no arc in a new hope.

Agree to an extent. For this to truly to enhance his legacy, it actually should be a rather sad movie. It should lay the groundwork for his background and possible dynamic change in New Hope, but still leave him as a selfish SOB by the end. If they do that carefully it could be a good movie. It just sounds like a rather dark flick and not very Disney like. It actually could allow bringing back Bobba Fett and give more screen time to the cult favorite.

Today in Disney history

Stitch's supersonic celebration debuted in Tomorrowland in 2009.

The Norway Pavillion soft opened in 1988.

Any plans for EPCOT beyond new Soarin' and Froway? Seems like the park I hear the most comments about needing an update (specifically Future World)

Yeah they really need to make Epcot the next priority once all the Star Wars/Pixar constructions done. Especially Future World.

I really wish they'd bring back that sense of what could be...maybe a high-tech tour of the Solar System/Universe for example..narrated by Neil Degrasse-Tyson...touching on future exploration possibilities.

I actually do have hope this will turn out well as Lawrence Kasdan wrote the script. He has full history with the franchise so I don't think he will mess it up.

If that was the outline of the story, I would be all for it. I guess I just don't see it happening, I don't have that much faith.

I'm also a little bitter, I wanted Indiana Jones recast as a younger actor to have more of Indy's adventures as a younger guy. I think Indiana Jones lends itself to more of a James Bond ability to recast.

I think they're trying to make it sound Willy Wonka-ish or Harry Potter-ish without actually acquiring a specific IP for theming purposes.
Should have stuck with the "chocolate factory" name in that case.

My suspicion is they did some market research and found people wouldn't think they had "real" food in there if they did that. Which led to this moronic "savory feast kitchen" tag-on.

It wouldn't be where one mans dream is. That area will be a toy story land entrance. Now animation courtyard is a good guess. Previous DHS plans had that area slated for phase 4.

I'd also like to add the source says plans are in the works for AK post Avatar...

Welp, this is my favorite post of the week. Especially the part about DAK post Avatar. The park, although a work of art and beauty to me, will still need more rides/experiences for those that aren't in it for the animals. I will be over the moon excited if they are already looking at changes/expansion plans for DAK post Pandora. I have always felt that there should be a Central or South American expansion where you could have Incan/Mayan ruins, a rainforest section, coupled with some additional animal experiences of course. However, what would do it for me would be to have an 'outpost' that would be a secret meeting place for S.E.A., the society of explorers and adventurers. It could be a large, ancient looking structure that had a QS element on the outer interior portions of the building, but also have a secret inner area that could be a TS restaurant. Both would be themed to the hilt of course, but a good tie in for this would be that Indiana Jones's father used to come here in his youth. There could be a nearby mine that you entered, and of course this could be turned into a rollercoaster type ride, similar to what the Excavator was going to be in Dino Land before that got scaled way back. Honestly, there are so many other ways for them to be creative with DAK, I feel like the possibilities are endless.

Something Central/South American would be cool and the cuisine of that would fit into Tiffins too

And if they brought back anything resembling the Adventurer's Club that would be awesome

Wdwmagic, and no it's not spirit either.

I'm sorry I'm an idiot, I still can't find the rumor even going on their site. Can you hold my hand and show me the link or PM me?

Um I love that sea idea. Brilliant.

I was suffering through a long car ride a bit ago and was imaging an AK South America land. I thought they could have an amphibious ride vehicle. So you start out on land kind of like the safari, only your driving through the jungle. Then something happens to send you off the path and boom, you end up splashing into the water and then just continue on through a river.

They could have a pretty sweet walking trail too with piranhas and jaguars and sloths and giant anacondas.

This reminds me of the South America section at Disney Sea in Japan. I have been surprised that they haven't copied some of the Disney Sea attractions and style in the US parks.

If you go on their forums, then to the WDW news and rumors section, then to the studios redo section, and the to the talk about phase 3 thread. You'll see mansion say it on there.

Dining package apparently will be happening for the jungle book show coming to AK at night. These packages show there will be 3 shows a night and happen at tusker house and flame tree BBQ. This is info from the HUB. No show times are found though.

I don't think we can look at Lucasfilm releases as Disney or not Disney like. Yeah, they're owned by Disney and really a Disney product but they let a character face a pretty emotionally heavy death so they're willing to go dark.

Disney owns Miramax and they're producing Bad Santa 2.

It just feels so odd to see a quick service location being listed as part of a nighttime dining package. Hopefully, Tiffins replaces it.

This. I have been saying for a long time that AK is the perfect location to import SEA elements over, especially if you made the focus of the presence in AK as the hunt for mythical animals (cough, yeti?).

Personally, I want to see Australia get representation. You could do everything from a walk-about Outback like the Safari to the Barrier Reefs (water rides? play area? a new permanent home for Nemo, ala Lion King being relocated to Harambe), and maybe even give the Rescuers (down under) some love.

That (spoiler) was a part of the actors contract to do the film. It wasn't actually suppose to happen that way, but that was the only way said actor would do the movie (as well as another key piece to the contract).

By the way - it isn't such a good thing to give away movies like that. At least put it as a spoiler alert.

I found this additional comment about it so hopefully it will help a little with their direction:
Lawrence Kasdan spoke about the project on the Empire Film podcast late last year, saying: “I think it won’t be the thing you’re worried about. It will not be like, here is where he was born and this is how he was raised. I think what it will be is what was he like 10 years earlier, ya know, maybe a little earlier you’ll get a glimpse, but…what formed the person we meet in the cantina? It is not so much about his specific history. It is about what makes a person like that? He’s not full-formed in the cantina! Kurosawa once said, ‘The heroes are the ones that are still changing and the villains are locked and petrified into what they are,’ and Harrison [Ford] embodies in Force Awakens someone that’s still not settled on who he is.” Meanwhile, back in early March, Disney CEO Bog Iger confirmed that the Han Solo standalone “is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewie,” aka Chewbacca, his yelping Wookiee partner in intergalactic crime.

Wow - I wonder when people will stop going to these massive wastes of money. It's too bad we can't get people to collectively agree to not show up. Disney will only get the message on these prices when people stop going. I was THINKING about going in October, but now I am 100% not going.
I know some of the Disney folks read the forums, but it might have more impact to go ahead and book a room for those nights, wait a few days and then call back and cancel and tell them it's because the pricing for this jumped up way too high. That would put it inside their system, which their higher ups might get a view of.

that would be horrible thing to do for the people that are trying to make reservations for real. Just so you can make a point. If you don't like it, then don't buy it. There is people that do. if it is not worth it to enough people then Disney will stop. But until such time doing things like this is childish and not productive.
