News Round Up 2016

I agree. I think Disney just missed the supply and demand price point.

Morning Magic = $73.50 = 98 cents per minute
3 rides
breakfast
75 exclusive minutes
All Day Ticket required

After Hours = 158.60 = 88 cents per minute
26 rides
snacks
180 exclusive minutes (at least 180 non-exclusive minutes)
NO additional ticket required

On paper the numbers look extremely good, nighttime is a better value, but supply and demand just don't always work the way the numbers show. I think if Disney would have started at the $75-$99 price point and sold out the event, they could have had the ability to raise the price due to demand. I not sure it was a valid move to price this event higher than MNSSHP and MVMCP initially if they were looking for the event to have traction.

I agree it is a supply and demand, but the two are related. Demand for ice to an eskimo is quite different then ice in the french quarter at mardi gras. I do also think the price point is a big part of the problem as well, but again have to sell it for a profit. I would imagine the cost of keeping virtually all of MK open is very high and therefore you need a lot more revenue to turn a profit.

If you want to up the demand, target something that people will be willing pay extra money for the privilege to be up at Midnight to attend. The demand for morning is already very high. People have no problem doing PPO or wait for rope drop to run their princess to Anna and Elsa or ride the mine train. That same group does not target after hours EMH. Too small a group means they could in theory do EMH at 1:00AM and have a similar experience.

On the other hand, I can absolutely see the Dark Side party at DHS. The Empire takes over every Saturday at 11:00PM - 1:00PM. Come ride ToT, RnR, ST, and Toy Story with little to no wait. Attend our Dark Side Desert party with Darth Maul, Darth Vader and Kylo Ren. Have a few CM in Storm Troopers at each ride. I bet you will have a large demand of teenage, Star Wars fans, and young adults more than willing to shell out $85.00 a ticket.

I think that MK could sell out at $85.00/ticket. I'd almost bet that a DHS event like the one you mention could potentially pull the $149 price tag. After all Club Villain is pulling $129/ticket

I bet turning a profit at 85 for MK is a challenge unless you limit the rides or significantly increase number of tickets (now you are just charging for EMH). DHS event it is easy to scale back to 4 rides and no shows. Costs drop like a rock, and it is not unthinkable to get your fill of 4 rides and a M&G/desert party in 2 hours. I bet there are a lot of people that would jump on that in those are the only 4 rides they wanted to ride anyway. The chance to ride all the top tier in 1 hour is more than worth the cost of doing it at midnight. If you did limit MK to drop the price point, what would you keep open? I don't think Mine Train, Peter Pan, and Winnie the Pooh would easily pull a midnight crowd, and therefore why they have to keep darn near everything open.

I am probably turning into an old parent and not remembering the late night crowd. I just know when each event was released, the questions that popped in my head were different. For After Hours it was, so how late will this start? For Early Morning it was how much? If the price is right it could be worth it.

They are offering the AP & DVC members the After Hours event for $75. So, while the profit margin would be lower, I think the could do the MK event for $75-85. That said, I do also believe that DHS should have a better profit.

this is really being ained at Ap and DVC that's why they get the discounted rate. the 149 is to make it look like everyone else is getting a big break and would be willing to pay the cost. just like the halloween and christmas parities the real price is what the so called discounted rate is and the gate price is for guests staying on property that are silly enough to pay it. like the day rate at the ticket booths, most people don't pay the full price, they get discounts or are buying multi day passes. great marketing ploy actually.

Rumor

A third land at DHS is still in the works according to sources. The IP and how big this land is or where it will go is not included in the rumor right now.
probably where one man's dream and launch ay and the little mermaid are

It wouldn't be where one mans dream is. That area will be a toy story land entrance. Now animation courtyard is a good guess. Previous DHS plans had that area slated for phase 4.

I'd also like to add the source says plans are in the works for AK post Avatar...

Still no cast discount either. Smh
Right? This event is something I could see cast loving. Enjoying the parks without the tourists is pretty much the dream. Even my non-park going coworkers perk up at the idea, but the price is just too much.

There are very vocal complainers out there though who despise the fact that the early holiday parties are full of cast who get in on a discount, and people are very upset about early closings for cast service celebrations. I can only imagine how people would feel about a special event made up mostly of cast, even if they did pay to get in

One factor that Disney may consider in not offering a DHS after hours event is that a single night could eliminate the need to use a park ticket to visit the park altogether for some, with the limited offerings there now. Many people consider the park a half-day park anyway. Why allow visitors to reduce a day on the multi-day ticket (or eliminate park hopper) and substitute with a special nighttime ticket? Limited times in the park reduces spending opportunities. I do agree that it would sell better. ToT, RnRC, TSMM with no/low lines? Sign me up...maybe.

MK is a multi-day park so people will always visit, regardless of parties and special events.

I don't think it has to do with the demographics. There are plenty of teens, young adults, and older adults that would be interested in after hours at MK. I think a lot of it has to do with the price point. Why pay $150 for 3 hours of no lines when I can pay less than that for a full day at the park. Yes that full day has lines but there are plenty of ways to minimize your time in line.
technically its 7-11 regular hours than 11-2 after hours
no chance i would pay 150 but as a DVC member i would pay 75 for that

That's an awesome non-rumor rumor. I guess the fact that the 3rd land hasn't been taken off the table is a good thing. However that it is "something" located "somewhere" is a pretty lame rumor.

A quick detour into Universal world. They had previously announced a chocolate restaurant called Toothsome Chocolate Factory. I disliked this name. Primarily, I dislike the word "Toothsome". So when I heard news they were changing the name of the place, i was excited to see what it had become.

Imagine my surprise when I found out they are calling it "Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen".

It's like they are trying to make the name as horrid as possible. Savory Feast Kitchen? Are they playing madlibs here?
