I agree. I think Disney just missed the supply and demand price point.
Morning Magic = $73.50 = 98 cents per minute
3 rides
breakfast
75 exclusive minutes
All Day Ticket required
After Hours = 158.60 = 88 cents per minute
26 rides
snacks
180 exclusive minutes (at least 180 non-exclusive minutes)
NO additional ticket required
On paper the numbers look extremely good, nighttime is a better value, but supply and demand just don't always work the way the numbers show. I think if Disney would have started at the $75-$99 price point and sold out the event, they could have had the ability to raise the price due to demand. I not sure it was a valid move to price this event higher than MNSSHP and MVMCP initially if they were looking for the event to have traction.
I agree it is a supply and demand, but the two are related. Demand for ice to an eskimo is quite different then ice in the french quarter at mardi gras. I do also think the price point is a big part of the problem as well, but again have to sell it for a profit. I would imagine the cost of keeping virtually all of MK open is very high and therefore you need a lot more revenue to turn a profit.
If you want to up the demand, target something that people will be willing pay extra money for the privilege to be up at Midnight to attend. The demand for morning is already very high. People have no problem doing PPO or wait for rope drop to run their princess to Anna and Elsa or ride the mine train. That same group does not target after hours EMH. Too small a group means they could in theory do EMH at 1:00AM and have a similar experience.
On the other hand, I can absolutely see the Dark Side party at DHS. The Empire takes over every Saturday at 11:00PM - 1:00PM. Come ride ToT, RnR, ST, and Toy Story with little to no wait. Attend our Dark Side Desert party with Darth Maul, Darth Vader and Kylo Ren. Have a few CM in Storm Troopers at each ride. I bet you will have a large demand of teenage, Star Wars fans, and young adults more than willing to shell out $85.00 a ticket.
