News Round Up 2016

Well you could actually still connect to Star Tours by going behind muppets. It obviously isn't as good as having it directly attached to the land.

I agree with the rest though.

Looking at the map - could they use Star Tours as like the entrance to the area and then you go behind where Mama Melrose, etc. currently is? Almost like Star Tours takes you to this planet where Star Tours is set? Maybe even have the exit of Star Tours lead you into the land ... would add to the immersive feeling

That's possible.

A lot of times I agree with things you say, but dude, this one is rough. I plan on using a FP for our first night for Wishes since we'll have flown from LAX all day. I live near Disneyland and we have the new fireworks and had more than one show during the year before that. Even still I will enjoy Wishes because it's a touching moment filled with emotion watching with my family and seeing my son's face light up as only children can. That doesn't make me a sucker.

If you're mad about the price hikes and staffing and hours reductions, I am too. I get it. But that doesn't make people who enjoy the experience with their families wounded calves. I can appreciate something just for what it is.

I'm not at all saying this to get into a big debate with you. I believe you're totally entitled to your different opinion, but I kinda feel like your post had some unnecessary name calling.

I don't think you are really getting his point. Look at where the wishes FP sections are, other than on the busiest days of the year, like New Years, getting a spot where the wishes sections are, wouldn't be tough. They aren't prime viewing locations, they are quite far back and off center. Ironically when they have sold out the Wishes FPs they do come around and cram you in there, and force you to stand up and all move forward and try to pack you as tightly as they can. Unless you show up to the wishes early you are going to have people standing in front of you just like you would if you went and watched from main street.

I think his main point is that this is a constructed value. They create the FP, there is a limited supply, and people are super happy to get the FP just because its available and they are limited. I imagine most of those people wouldn't have chosen to go sit there in any other circumstance, and if they wanted to, there would have been ample opportunity without it being a reserved area.

Its pretty similar to how, the other day, I saw someone claiming the view of wishes from the desert party was the absolute best view possible and thats why the wishes desert party was totally worth the money ... I mean ... really ? I guess its possible you like the fireworks more when they appear to be exploding behind the castle instead of how they are intended to look and the ground effects look all lopsided and are half hidden ... but really ?

That's actually about the only way they could use the current Star Tours and have it fit the theme of the new land.

People will convince themselves of almost anything. Objectively it's hard to been the train station as the location to watch the fireworks, but... no cupcakes!

Six Flags to add VR "option" to existing roller coasters this year.

They are adding VR headsets to the ride experience, including controllers to allow you to shoot at targets. You can opt out as well.

Very interesting. The motion should match (it'll cause some serious nausea if it gets out of sync!) the movement of the ride. Your body will be going through the physical motion. Your eyes will be in a "VR" world that mimics the motion, but is completely separate from the ride experience. One example is Superman... where it will be like you are flying with Superman while on the roller coaster.

rteetz - feel free to move or delete since it isn't Disney related, but since it is theme park I thought it was interesting.

All good :thumbsup2

It's about time they added a couple. What will be interesting to see if RCCL's moving of Oasis of the Seas to Port Canaveral has any impact on DCL pricing or will these two new ships out do the Oasis for features so folks will still be willing to pay that premium.

By the time they come out, RCCL will probably have new ships too. Having been on both, DCL offers a lot for families with which RCCL can't compete. They have good kids stuff; it's just not as good as DCL. However, RCCL is significantly better priced/cheaper than DCL. That's where RCCL will compete, on pricing. As for older kids and teens, i think it's a little bit closer, but I haven't had a teen on either cruise line yet, so I am not very knowledgeable there.

I'm guessing that shortly thereafter, they'll show up at Animator's Palate on the Fantasy too.

That would be great!

Yes that's what I've read too... Missing the location of the land is a pretty big mistake. If everything that's been tossed around is incorrect, we may have to reevaluate some things. It actually makes sense. Disney is preparing to close down all sorts of attractions in that area. Everyone said that was for staging. This would be much more logical. If they are aiming for a 2018/ early 2019 opening DHS will be fixed much sooner then anticipated. DHS phase three could be done by 2020.

It also means the Orlando competitive arena is significantly different then we were judging. Walt Disney World is going to be getting way way better much faster. Universal's aggressive roadmap looks less impressive when Disney is opening highly themed lands yearly for the next couple years.

This would be a seismic oversight.

It also means they're more committed to domestic parks then ever.

I think this remains to be seen. I will believe that earlier dates when I am sitting in the canteen drinking a Star Wars drink:darth:

First of all, the gall. Ridiculous.

Second of all, being that it's on their official blog, maybe they should hire an editor, or at least learn how to use spell check. "Enjoy all these special rates and offers for your next Walt Disney World Resoer vacation!"

Little things, I realize, but it just tweaks me.

The grammar queen in me dies a little when I see this stuff:(

In the post I quoted, he didn't mention wishes fp, just price hikes and wishes in general, "all those people in the hub." I agree with you that Disney is the master of constructed value. I just don't think there needs to be name calling.

I mean really, if we are going to call anyone wounded calves for buying into Disney's constructed values, anyone who stays on property, buys a dessert or Christmas party ticket or eats in a popular Disney restaurant is probably subject to that.

And what is one person's constructed value rip-off may well be another person's perfect plan. Each has to assess their own situation and plan according to their own needs. Calling names, or making fun of someone's choices is just not called for. For me, the Wishes FP+ experience was a waste - not any better than standing shoulder to shoulder in the Hub - but for someone else, it was a great experience - doesn't mean my opinion is any more valid than theirs.

Am I the only one that thinks that Star Tours at DHS will NOT be part of Star Wars Land? It certainly cannot be part of it at Disneyland, and I would think that SWL would be identical at both parks. Further, Star Tours is "just really a simulator"... it could certainly be re-themed to something else once SWL is open.

Star tours is staying as is at DHS however Disneylands will likely be rethemed.

My son sat the entire time and had no one in front of him for at least 8 or 9 feet. My youngest didn't even get out of his stroller. No one asked us to move forward and there was no one near us for the entire show. And we walked in to the area right as the projection show started. This was on a non-recommended Magic Kingdom day during President's Day week.
