News Round Up 2016

Does anyone else find it ridiculous that Disney is saying that they are tiering prices to attract guests away from busy times, yet they will be offering less experiences during value/slower times? Isn't that counterproductive if they make the value season less attractive? To me, this just reaffirms the fact it is about money, and not crowd control.

I don't think it's ever been about crowd control for Disney. If it was Disney could've done things long ago.

Has DISNEY said this? I haven't read that. Only the rumors. Understand also that "value" season is only a few weeks of the year. Right now the only dates listed are August 22nd through September 29th. Good chance they will include much of January and early February, but that'll be it.

I do agree that it will have no significant impact on attracting guests away from busier times.

Of course I agree that it needs the maintenance but it is interesting that they moved it to that time period

I'm not reading that much into it. It was scheduled for April - July this year. I had a feeling it would get pushed back. Why would you want a headliner to be closed during the busiest travel times of the year? It makes sense, as it always has, to do refurbs during the less busy times (even though in their new tiered pricing structure Oct and Nov are Regular season).

Everyone hates ride refurbs, but they ARE necessary. I just hate that it's the favorite ride of "middle" son - who has already has a persecution complex. :crowded: :rolleyes2

I broke the news to him last night so he can come to grips with it. He handled it well; it's another opportunity to "build character." (Said with tongue-in-cheek)

carsland aint happening, that area is going to be part of toystory
No the canyon area is not going to be toy story. That will be staging and where the access road. The land there is then slated for a phase 3 if it ever happens. Toy story is going behind TSMM and using those backstage areas.

No Disney has not said that and yes it's only rumors but it wouldn't be surprising to me if they do it.

I would absolutely read that much into it. It makes sense does it not? Take it down during the time where the least amount of people are in the parks (according to their tier strategy)

What is this canyon you speak of? Is this for WDW or DL?
I think I missed hearing something

In DHS in the old backlot tour. Catastrophe Canyon, where the trams would drive in and the fire/water/rain scene happened with the tanker truck.

Spirited Rumors

Disney is considering no longer allowing people to bring in food to the parks. The only way they would allow such is for special dietary reasons.

Thanks! I thought they were talking about building a canyon, type scenery where LMA is and then we could get a mini carsland there.
What is Catastrophe Canyon going to be?

It's the site for whatever phase 3 ends up being if anything. It's been rumored to be cars first but it seems the latest rumors are for monsters inc. or the incredibles.

Would this be all food? We eat in the park but always take snacks so that if we have a little while before our reservation or are somewhere that it would not be easy to get a snack we can give our daughter a quick snack to keep from a major meltdown. (She is a grump when she is hungry) I would hate for that to be the case.

Yes I believe so. This would be to have people stop bringing in small coolers and such. Disney would much rather them be spending money in the parks.

oooh, okay thanks! love all those options but phase 3 seems so far away.

Wonder also about whether that means ALL food, or just people bringing in coolers and such.

We tend to bring in snacks like pretzels and Pistachios. I would probably continue to bring these in. More upsetting would be if they stopped us from bringing in our bottles of water. I know they give out ice water at the counter service, but I'd much rather be able to re-hydrate whenever I want without having to push through a counter service line-up to get it.
