News Round Up 2016

It used to be moderate crowds - sometimes light - in great weather...

That is over. Its as though 10,000,000 people just discovered food and wine and the Halloween party 3 years ago.

And now they can't get enough of it. Like "wishes"...hidden in plain site.

Those are very old things. It's become uncomfortable

They are testing Harry Potter at Universal Hollywood, and the workers are coming off it and throwing up, it may not get open on the day they planned. and they cant figure out why.
We were there last Monday. Its been open the last two weeks so that would be very surprising. My kids rode it 5 times - they love that ride. I rode it just once as I did feel a little too queasy to ride it again. Maybe it is the 3D as I remember riding it twice back to back in Florida. Didn't see anyone sick but it was fun to watch the ride unload and the riders stagger off while finding their balance.

Jim Hill Musings

Jim and Lens latest Disney Dish podcast all about DHS.

New name being thrown around Disney's Cinemagic Kingdom

Indiana Jones survives for now

Pizza Planet becomes muppets if show does well otherwise it's just a generic quick service.

TSMM third track opens this summer

Toy Story land opens in 2018 around same time of Toy Story 4 premiere.

Studio catering co will be backstage once things are done.

One Mans Dream will stay but likely change a bit.

Launch Bay closes when Star Wars land opens.

Jim says Monsters Inc would then be where launch bay and little mermaid are.

Carsland back in the canyon area...

10 months of demolition.

GMR stays as is until at least 2021.

We went for our first F&W trip last fall...very disappointed in that EPCOT was VERY crowded, and at night, the drunks seemed to run rampant. Other parks not as crowded. Not saying that's how everyone perceived it, but after our experience, we won't be back at that time of year.

On the Liberty Square SOTMK closing - can't say I'm surprised. I don't think most people realize it exists. The CMs tend to wander, it's so infrequent to see a guest (when I've visited, anyway).

I'm going to call this Jim Hill BS. It seems highly unlikely to me that WDW management would introduce this kind of confusion to the park lineup. Bad enough that at least once every trip I get asked "when are we going to Disney World" when we haven't been to MK yet.

Pizza Planet becomes muppets if show does well otherwise it's just a generic quick service.

Perhaps, but what would be the value of generic over Muppets in this equation? On the Disney side, I think resting this with the show is short sighted. The Muppets will always have fans, and will always have a renaissance.

I think the name is pretty terrible ... though, granted, I still refer to the park as MGM

very glad that One Man's Dream looks to be staying

What is the "Monster's Inc" they refer to? is this Phase III or did I miss something specific that was stated/confirmed?

Honestly I didn't know the Liberty square location existed until now.

While true it would create confusion, people are really going to call it what they want. People still call it MGM. Honestly I don't care what they call it.

Disney has really been wanting this show to do well to see if they can keep muppets in the parks. I like muppets myself but I don't know if the rest of my generation does.

Jim thinks phase 3 is carsland and phase 4 is monsters inc. There are other insiders have been saying carsland isn't happening and that monsters inc or incredibles will be phase 3.

Not loving that new name...hope they are wrong.

Yes terrible - good thing Jim and Len are mostly wrong.

I wanted to comment on the things that weren't completely obvious.

Pretty terrible name - but I wouldn't be surprised if it's on the pile somewhere. However - NO WAY that happens. Your going to name one park "Magic Kingdom" and another park "CINEMagic Kingdom"? Disney is not that dumb. Don't believe this one for a second.

I don't get this one either. The show is already established as doing poorly. It may or may not be renewed - it's likely very cheap to produce and actually a pretty good show - but that wouldn't be a decision point on the QS location anyways. It's whether Disney is behind the Muppets or not. Construction has already begun, they know exactly what it's going to be. This is a "cover my butt" statement by someone who doesn't actually know the truth. (I've beat this horse before - but really RTeetz and I could start a podcast and probably provide a higher % of correct information than Jim and Len.)

Carsland back in the canyon area...

Another pretty meaningless statement as its talking about it's talking about stuff 3-5 years in the future - but really let's look at the logic of it. The Carsland in Canyon area is probably a good guess - we know Star Wars and Toy Story aren't going there - so IF they do Carsland, that's a likely landing place. The Monster's Inc at the Launch Bay & Little Mermaid makes less sense. I don't really think there is enough space here for a true "land" - but I suppose if they build back further it's possible. Wouldn't it be a lot more likely for them to repurpose the "Streets of America" facades for a Monstropolis area? More of an opinion from me of course - but if I were seriously looking at that idea - that's what I would do. You could even bring back the Osborne lights and have a "Lit by YOUR laughter" ceremony.

Rumors have persisted for some time now that Monsters Inc and Cars will be added to this park as immersive lands after Toy Story and Star Wars. If true, that would be a solid Pixar lineup.

Only time will tell. My only opinion on this is that with everything that UNI is doing now and what is in their pipeline, DHS will need more than Star Wars and Toy Story. All of WDW will.

Agreed.

I don't think it's as much a new discovery as it is a shift in school schedules. We used to be one of the only districts around with a week of fall break, but starting 3 years ago, many states moved to a balanced school schedule, with 1-2 weeks off. Most are in October, but some are earlier and later. I miss the days of walking on everything. Lol
