News Round Up 2016

Iger doesn't want to leave until Star Wars Land is open, he wants to see it through.

Of course he does.

People tend to remember (give credit to) who was there when a project was complete. Not who initiated it. Bob wants to make sure he gets the glory.

I wouldn't be so sure...I think Iger is one of those guys who watches the stock ticker on a 120" 4K tv 24 hours a day about now.

My hunch is he may already regret not leaving already...and if somehow we don't go into recession (highly unlikely) - then he would jump if the stock inches back up.

But if he does want to be known as the "Star Wars guy"...then that's good for parks fans.

Nothing wrong with that. I like to start what I finish too. Wish others were the same way.

sorry...forgot it was a holiday and I put outdated stock data up ;)

Disney stock not doing well...is the gist of the thought

This really shows some interesting stuff if true and often times yes they are.

Star Wars land pushing for December 2018 which means the DHS version won't be far behind early 2019 isn't out of the question.

I like that Chapek is really sticking to timelines and budgets but I don't like cutting things out either.

It's also positive that they want to finally fix the parking issue.

Good article out of Miceage. Still obvious things could change - but sounds like Star Wars Land is going ahead pretty much as scheduled, and under a fairly ambitious timeline, too. I gotta think they will be targeting a similar timeline at DHS. (They won't want the California one opening a year ahead of the Florida one.) The size of the one building makes it seem like it's going to be an actual physical coaster of some sort.

Note there is no (stupid) mention of a boat ride!

I chuckle at how much they harp on the parking situation, and more specifically the walk. I do realize there have been tons of parking issues, but the whining of "Oh no, they've cut out the moving sidewalks, I have to walk from the parking lot to the theme park now! Waaah - first world problems." It does make me wonder if they will have a shuttle for those that perhaps "can't" walk. I guess that's the good thing about only visiting DLR as an out-of-town tourist...no worries about DLR parking.

Edit: Want to point out that the open air section of this land looks to be nearly as big as Rivers of America. Just - wow!

I agree. I also like how they are making an emphasis to keep this secluded and have a "reveal" like Diagon alley.

Exactly - though it's how it should be done, being that you are coming from Frontierland or Critter Country. Disney has always been pretty good at keeping certain things out of sight - to the point that when they don't it can be pretty obnoxious. (I find the way you can see the back of the main show building of Carsland from California Screamin' to be a pretty big miss on Disney's part - though certainly they knew about it.) Disneyland in general these transitions don't really work the best. (The way astro orbitor is plopped down almost in the hub in DL.) But good to know this is what they are planning.

No matter what you can't please anyone...but I do wonder...

Would people be happier if SWL (or any new land or area like Avatar) opened on time (or early) but seeing losses due to budget cuts...or that same area opening way behind but having all the bells and whistles you would expect.

It is always reality that it is somewhere in the middle, and most people lie somewhere in the middle...but the question is which side do you lie closer to (I feel like this is just like a political talk...no matter what people would say you won't convince someone that is on the opposite side - if you want on time and he wants all the bells and whistles, you can't convince him that on time is the best way to do, you just are wasting your breath)...

agree
that building is huge, gotta be some type of moving ride for sure, probably a coaster type
the mil. falcon looks more simulator ish in size

That was an encouraging take on the Star Wars land.

They need to get it done...and they really NEED a physical ride. You can't go sim if you have star tours still there.
