News Round Up 2016

Earful tower coming down.

I'm way more upset about this than I am about LMA.

Me too. I think it permanently should be the Hollywood Tower Hotel, but I guess in the end, something Star Wars related will probably end up being the park symbol.

We'll be at Disneyworld Feb 10-17. Will be interesting to see who's meeting where.

Will try to get as many pics of the progress of all the closures as I can over the next weeks and months. It's going to start looking very different around here soon.

I'd keep in mind that Disney is still heavily reliant on seasonality.

"Parks and Resorts revenues fluctuate with changes in theme park attendance and resort occupancy resulting from the seasonal nature of vacation travel and leisure activities. Peak attendance and resort occupancy generally occur during the summer months when school vacations occur and during early-winter and spring-holiday periods."

Not to discount your experience, (occupancy got a little crazy a couple years) but that doesn't line up with crowds, occupancy numbers, or pricing. Though it has been becoming more even year around.

Note I said the deluxes. Deluxe pricing does not peak in the summer like the values and mods. That trip we got a gardenview room at the YC for under $200/night. And that was just last summer, not post-2001 or 2008.

Does anyone know of approximate showtimes for Rivers of Light? We'll be at Disney in July and are making an ADR for Boma, but we only plan to do one day in the AK area and wouldn't want to miss the Rivers of Light because we're eating dinner. I'm guessing it has to be after dark so a 5/5:30 ADR should be fine.

No nothing of that sorts has come out yet and probably won't until Disney officially announces an opening date.

So Kylo Ren is replacing Vader's meet and greet at DHS in February.

Thoughts on this? Feelings????

I am not a big Kylo Ren fan. Just can't stand the acting. I will probably still go, but I hope they keep Vader for the Visa M&G, since we have never got to meet Vader. I have a little Rey doll that I might torment Kylo with:)

There isn't a closure that could affect our trips less. We've seen the show once in 2007 and never again since.

We haven't seen it in years either--- however, the closure will certainly affect access to other attractions..... I probably won't be in that park until some new things start opening. I guess since we have AP's, Disney will be happy we leave our void in the park.

My advice is look up when sunset is, and then assume it will be slightly after that. Sunset in Orlando in July is 8:27 and 8:13 pm. I would expect that there's a good chance they will be pushing the nighttime activities starting when RoL opens, and it's a busy time of year, so I would expect either one show at 9 PM or later, or possibly two shows, one at 8:30 PM and the second at 10 PM. (I doubt the park will be open past 10 PM.) You are probably good with any reservation at 6:30 pm or earlier.

We may have dodged another bullet on attraction refurbs. We are supposed to be at AK on March 19, the day after it's supposed to reopen. I am not holding my breath though. I really FOW. I like the open roof. I think it allows a better breeze. I don't think they can install ceiling fans, like in the Safari queue, due to the flying birds.
I saw it for the first time this last trip and really enjoyed it.

I have some Jim Hill Rumors for y'all

DHS doesn't have a whole lot left to offer and taking away LMA doesn't help that.

Disney is moving this project faster because The Force Awakens was a huge success and they know the land will be just as successful now. (Really Jim, thats like Duh!)

Iger doesn't want to leave until Star Wars Land is open, he wants to see it through.

Muppets stays and Pizza Planet gets a Swedish Chef Cooking school themed quick service that still serves pizza.

Toy Story 4 is being fast tracked. They want the premiere to take place in Florida and then have a Toy Story land grabs opening for the after party of the premiere.

The Fantasia Gardens height test balloons are for a parking garage for CMs. (I am skeptical of this one, some of those balloons were 100 ft in the air)

Disney wants to have DHS be the number 2 park in terms of attendance behind MK after all the expansions are done.

Jim says phase three is still Cars.

So, you think Toy Story Land will be open quicker than originally planned?
