This sounds like it's going to be a cluster on both coasts.
MiceAge is always always cynical and down. I'm expecting it to be epic. I'm pumped!
If done right it sounds like Alcatraz will be the best ride on the planet. Over 150 AAs? Hourly capacity of course is a problem and I'm sure FP will be the main way to get on this ride.
Interesting that they shelved their DTD redo for the most part. You'd think retail is something they would want. I wonder if that has to do with how Disney Sorings is performing?
Disney Springs seems like it may have a hard time getting people to its extremities. It's a significant walk getting to Marketplace from the bus stops now. I suspect that's why they're adding the princesses, to draw people away from spending time only in the core of the property. I have to admit that I didn't love Disney Springs when I just walked quickly through, which admittedly doesn't provide the greatest experience, but did give me a flavor. All the stores were not interesting to me at all (except for Coke...

). We quickly retreated to the classic 1970s marketplace; my favorite part of Disney Springs. I want to spend a day there exploring and trying to appreciate the theming, but I understand why they may be having issues. It's not intimate at all and it's huge.
The bathrooms were nice though.
Disneyland's Downtown Disney was already fine. I was never quite sure why they wanted to do a grand reboot in the first place. This also means that they may be able to finally add that three thousand room hotel sometime down the road instead of preserving parking.
That building is so cool. I like the very Joe Rohde touches. It definitely draws on a multitude of styles and techniques. I think it will end up being one of the most interesting in the park, far better than the ugly value version of ToT that had graced the park for years.
I love how it appears that it has a history. The bottom and front of the tower look ancient. Drawing on thousands of years of alien history. Then the power plant jutting up looks more modern. I can't be sure that's what they're going for, but it's classic Joe to add story and detail on how it finally came to be. It's also important to remember that Guardians is not all happy, but a more gritty story. This is representative of that.
Plus the collector is a powerful eccentric individual. That looks like the sort of building he'd live in.
Good question. They might be removed.
Some sources had said it was going to be screens, but they do still appear on the outside of the building. It keeps the option open at the very least.
I like the idea of marvel in the parks but marvel in ToT is just bad. Build new or tear it down why convert?
You know the answer. It's super easy to say they should just tear down and build a new attraction, but why do it? When you have a fine building with a great attraction sitting right there, why destroy it? They could've kept it as is, but then it would've clashed with whatever is put in.
Tokyo Disney Sea did a fabulous redo of this attraction. They of course built it right from the start, but they still used the same basic building design from this DCA tower. What's the difference here? They're using an existing building design and redoing the exterior. Disneyland fans are often far too negative. Give it a chance.
Though that may be my Joe bias coming out...
