Avatar has officially cost over $1 billion...

That's really sad if true. Though not sure how you can use the word "Officially". I think I would phrase it "Avatar is rumored to have cost over $1 billion".

I would still argue that anyone that knew the actual number is not posting it on the internet.

That is true. We can only go off of what we hear. Disney doesn't release official cost numbers.

I agree 100%. As awesome as I think the land is going to be there's no way that it should've cost nearly that much. I mean Shanghai cost what 4-5 billion? And that was building a whole resort from scratch. I get construction costs are different here from China but still.

I wonder who's at fault: Imagineering for not being able to ballpark a cost anymore, or the suits for not knowing how to build things and a reasonable pace/cost.

As an aside @rteetz AK has absolutely grown on me. Going there at night and being able to enjoy the park in a comfortable climate with the animals being out and about a lot more and such really made me enjoy it so much more

I will say that with Avatar a good amount falls on imagineering for not being able to keep costs down. Thats why Bruce Vaughn was fired. Some also falls on the executives though for not stepping in and making a change sooner.

I mean I get overruns are part of the business but an almost 50% increase in the budget is borderline insanity. Kinds can't blame the suits to get fed up there
