News Round Up 2016

You have to think Dreamworks is a large part of a third gate for Universal. If not, I have a couple questions that someone with more know of the Marvel contract could answer. Can they expand on their Marvel with the current characters they have (create a new Spiderman ride for example), or would Marvel need to sign off? Is it exclusive in that they can only use Marvel (no other comics can be used)? In case you don't see where I'm going, I could see some sort of animation/comic book park being a hit. Could you license out and get DC in there as well (have a DC section and a Marvel section and try to drag in both)? DC is probably a way long shot (in fact, if I remember correctly, Marvel can't be moved anyways), that would be interesting. Realistically, I see an animation concept with various dreamwork franchises at this point.

I agree with Exo, you don't do a whole park to one IP like HP. You have to have a multi-tiered are with varying options to gain the most traffic.

Keep in mind the discussion was if there was one theme, not should there be one theme.

HP is as close as I can imagine to a one theme success, and currently is way too crowded IMO because it does not have enough room, and too small of a Gringotts coaster for its potential IMO.

Regardless then HP will likely be in the 3rd park as well for more foot traffic. I'm fine with that.

Yea I meant if they had waited with HP, or just recently made the deal-HP could stand alone as a 3rd gate IMO, doesn't mean it should. It certainly could be a much bigger anchor than it is now. It feels crammed in the corners to me. The bank coaster should have been a bank coaster.

HP Beasts coming out this fall will add a lot of options as well. Maybe they will do a 3rd land of HP?

I think it would be really neat if each park had a Harry Potter land - and even cool if they can add something like the Hogwarts Express to connect to the third one (maybe something that would function like the fireplace floo system?)

News

Soarin around the world is open and all three theaters are operating. The line is long but it's only about a 60 minute wait.

It's a really pretty queue. But seriously... The real question is what's going to happen to this huge building once the meet and greet is not as successful anymore?
I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon but I've heard of plans to make it a general princess meet and greet place. It's going to be popular for at least a few years.

By then, Frozen 2 should increase interest again

I was at Awesome Con the other week and Elsa was easily the most popular Disney Princess cosplay. There's still a bunch of Frozen merchandise in the stores. There's another movie set for release. I think we are years away from it not being popular.

And even then all they have to do is add "visiting" Princesses to the mix. Meet and Greets will always be popular.

News

Adventureland smoking section has been removed.

All of these should be in effect as of today

The following smoking locations will be eliminated:

  • Adventureland (near the Adventureland marquee)
  • Tomorrowland (near Space Mountain)
Direct Guests to the following locations instead:

  • Storybook Circus (path connecting to Tomorrowland)
  • Frontierland (across from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad)
  • NEW LOCATION: Park entry (near Ferryboat queue)

the big knock on one theme to me is....
a park with multiple IPs is gonna more popular than one IP
if you build a Star Wars theme park and i build a theme park with star wars, avatar, marvel, and pixar my park will be much busier
JMO of course

You could probably also turn one of the room into meeting Olaf fairly easily

And Disney isn't afraid of having long, generally empty queues ... the line for Under the Sea with Nemo is like 37.2 miles long and rarely crowded

OK I don't miss the old one already-very nice.

Again, it was "if" you were going with one IP/theme. They know what they are doing.

To me HP was one of few that could work. Even the US website has it splashed on the home page for years now, Facebook and tweets are almost always of HP from folks visiting US/IOA.

That said, I would still choose a park for each of what you mentioned, over 4 too compacted lands in one. JMO as well. Although Avatar not so much, maybe Middle Earth.

I doubt that happens. Girls love the princesses. Think of the wait times for the likes of Cinderella, Snow White, Aurora, etc. Ariel's meet and greet is usually 30-45 minutes whenever I'm there in the "off-season." I don't think they will worry much about that happening for a really long time.

New Mickey and Minnie faces make their US debut!

I am a little disappointed in some of the costuming and design choices in this performance. Goofy and the tap dancers costumes seem almost clashing to me. The two ruffians just look odd to me also. Hook Hand gives me a Carol Burnett in drag feeling. The hats on the final set of male backup dancers seem too small but the fact they all had short hair could be a factor in that. Beyond costuming I wish they chose a different Frozen song.

So ummm... Not a fan of the show? ;)
