News Round Up 2016

It's a really good movie.
And personally, I think it's far better than Jungle Book from an overall appeal level...never cared for the music in the original JB, and the fact that they felt there needed to be songs in an otherwise great movie, I think was a mistake. Love Love Love Zootopia!

See I was a big fan of the original jungle book and I loved the new one. Zootopia is a different movie altogether.

Stockholm syndrome

Talk to me when their stock drops, their attendance drops, they don't have a majority of the highest grossing films of all time, and they don't have 5 years worth of announced plans in the pipeline.

As I've said before, but you've ignored, there are plenty of valid criticisms. And I'm not defending 2000-2010. You have valid points during that decade. You have every right to be bitter about that decade. And if you want to be skeptical about the current state of things, then that is your prerogative. That doesn't change the fact that things have had a massive turnaround in the past 5 years, and many of the things you can accuse them of in 2000-2010 simply don't hold up anymore. When you accuse anyone not wearing your brown-colored glasses of "stockholm syndrome", or any number of other 'corporate apologist' insults, well, that just outlines the bitterness I spoke of.

The difference between us is that I can attend the parks and see beyond the things that irk me and appreciate the aspects of the park I enjoy. I can make the call that there isn't enough new stuff to warrant a visit this year or the next. I'm not invested in the place with DVC, so they don't hold me hostage... Speaking of stockholm syndrome.....

For your sake I hope the company royally screws up sometime in the next year. You just aren't yourself when you don't have a soapbox. ;)

"A Disney source added, “The filmmaking team and the studio always anticipated additional shooting and second unit work to make the film the absolute best it can be, and the actors were aware there would be additional shooting."

Who sends a movie off *expecting* to come back and do reshoots? Specifically "4 weeks of expensive reshoots"... I can't say i'd be too keen to work with a director who "expects" to work that way.

It just doesn't make sense to send a first cut to the studio, have it go through audience testing, and yet still expect to come back to it. If ya knew ya needed to come back to the film... why wouldn't you just take care of that when you had the whole crew assembled.

Re-shoots are actually extremely common with movies. Most of the time they involve expositional scenes or scenes where they didn't get the shots they wanted, or as they cut the movie together determined an additional scene here and there. However, typically its something along the lines of 1-2 weeks. FOUR weeks of reshoots - if true - is rather a lot.

The rockwork covering in the waterfall opening looks fine ... though kinda surprised it's not part of the new ride.

The white and orangish rectangles stick out like a sore thumb ... jarring from the surroundings and NOT in a "hey, wow, cool, what's that over there" kinda way. It just doesn't seem to fit, at least not in the current state of those photos.

They might (and could easily) change it, but it is common in Norway.

Most movies have one or two weeks of planned weeks of reshooting, that is normal. I think almost every Marvel movie has had around two weeks of reshoots. For example, in Ant Man the movie as originally shot had softened Scott to not really being a criminal. That was redone to make it clear he really was a criminal. I think the Force Awakens reshoot was something like 3 days on a small stage in Santa Monica.

Four weeks is bad, that seems to indicate the kind of story change that you would usually hear about from an animated movie.

As you say the fact there are re-shoots in itself isn't that big a deal. More concerning would be the talk of the movie not "testing" well.

To me, Zootopia is one of those film properties that really doesn't have an ideal home in any of the parks (Talking about WDW here, since I've never been to DL). AK would be the closest fit because animals, but the overall themes between the two properties don't really mesh. MK could also be fine for a M&G, but again, it doesn't fit in any of the lands.

That really only leaves HS as a potential home, and that park is just a mess right now.

Having seen it, Zootopia fits as well in AK as Avatar...and it has the advantage of having animals as the main stars:)...the movie is not as great as its box office (I gave it a B+, but I am a harsher critic than most), but it has some of the funniest scenes I've seen in an animated movie in a long time, and good humor goes a long way to making a good movie experience...

I disagree I think avatar fits quite well at AK with its conservation message.
