News Round Up 2016

There isn't a closure that could affect our trips less. We've seen the show once in 2007 and never again since.

I really thought they'd leave LMA up for a while just to absorb guests twice a day. I guess they need the lot. It's exciting from a progress standpoint, but it'll be interesting to see what kind of impact it has on attendance, and upon those in attendance.

I get the distinct feeling that Disney has pretty much accepted that DHS will be a near-graveyard for a couple of years. (Or at least a true 1/2 park.) I'm sure the hope is the expansion of DAK at about the same time will lift attendance that will be lost at DHS. The other piece is I think they will really push Toy Story Land to open quickly. I still wouldn't be surprised if it is open before the end of 2017. Star Wars land will still be longer than that.

Yes it really was a crowd eater and now they won't have that. It's going to be an interesting couple years.

Agreed. Toy story land is likely late 2017 early 2018 at the latest. Star Wars 2019 if all goes well and then if they decide to do phase 3 2020. The backstage areas have already began clearing out where toy story is supposed to go and the TSMM third track vehicles are on site and ready to go as well, that should be opening fairly soon.

I would not mind some depressed DHS attendance. On most trips I'm choosing between Toy Story and Rock N Roller Coaster. In November, TSMM had convergence problems with several video panels, so that was no fun. On the plus side, one night RNR opened for 15 minutes after park close, so we got 3 rides in... including one with just myself, my niece, nephew, and brother in law in the front, and nobody in the rest of the car.

Depressed attendance would (maybe) allow one FP and one line up.

Yeah...it's not a bad show by any means, but seems like it's a one-and-done thing for pretty much everyone.

Depressed attendance isn't a good thing. It likely means bigger crowds at the other parks. I'm rather hoping unknowledgable people will still go to DHS, even though it makes it more crowded.

Earful tower coming down.

That wouldn't be good for Disney's reputation though. I always picture people milling around in a park wondering what to do, you know kind of like Future World for some of us. Not an appealing thought.

I'm way more upset about this than I am about LMA.

I guess it's too bad - but the whole point is it won't be "studio" anymore (like it has been in 20 years) and the earful tower was there to mimic the studio in Burbank. Without the backlot tour, you could barely see it anyways, never mind that it had no real use to the park.

I'm curious to see if/when they choose a new icon. They are rethemeing the entire park, so a new icon seems appropriate.

So Kylo Ren is replacing Vader's meet and greet at DHS in February.

Thoughts on this? Feelings????

I saw that - actually think it's kind of cool.

Can't wait to tell him
You know, you aren't nearly as good at this meet and greet thing as your Grandfather
and see what he does.

I wonder if they'll add Rey. That would be awesome for girls. She's become such a popular character.

I'm bummed I never got to meet Vader, but I get why they're adding Kylo Ren.
Vader might still meet at the Disney Visa meet and greet.

Its probably because they needed something new with all of closures and to promote the new movie.

I would imagine with TFA supposedly hitting bluray in April they're going to want to have Kylo Ren prominent for at least the first half of the year.

Can't see Vader going away long term though.
